the sad part is that if you rewatch, Kotaro often says "sorry to bother you" when visiting his current neighbors 😭
It's almost as if...that might be something one says when entering a house...
That's what everyone says in every anime. It's a courtesy thing.
I used to ring my neighbors's bells when my parents were late. I got scared being alone, and thankfully my neighbor was kind enough to let me in. Thinking of it now, it must have been bothersome, since I almost went there at least three times a week, but I am so, so grateful of their kindness.
It takes a village to raise a child. Im glad they were so kind.
I used to do the same with my neighbours if my parents were even 5 minutes late I would go to the house next door and talk to the neighbour. We usually lived next door to older people and they didn't mind talking to us for a while. It was really nice of them.

This story speaks to me. I'm not a 4-year old, but I get lonely too living alone. Though I do not ring neighbors' doorbells, I used to call friends a lot per day/week, though most won't pick up or call back. When that gentleman said to Kotaro, "Keep ringing as many doorbells ... Not everyone will be happy about it...Don't worry about them," I felt those words.
It is true that people can get lonely huh...

When I was 5 my mother left me alone at home very often for a long time. This made me remember how I rang on the door of neighbor but they didn't care, that I was afraid and alone they were just annoyed and send me back home. Since that day I felt like no one cares.
And I have problems when my boyfriend isn't with me. I have irrational thoughts and worry a lot. He doesn't know that. I even cry sometimes. I'm too ashamed to tell him and worry he would feel bad.
He had a rough start to life. But it's great to see that he now has so many people who want to look out for him. And to help him heal.
Yeah, specially when they thought kotaro's dad knew where he is and would be coming, they're like ready for a total war against kotaro's dad...

the love and help he gets, the way he brings the best out of everyone. make me fell the world isnt so cold and heartless. there are so many situations that are being told in this anime and informing signs and to look out for abuse. this anime will surly save some lives

They often say child sure growing fast.. not for kotaro ..but his mind sure grown alot than adult
@boppi_cat no kidding, I thought this anime is about that, trapped inside a kid body. I was kinda expecting him to fight some evil forces because of his sword, but turns this show is a slice of life and a heartbreaker at that.

Neighbors kid use to come over a lot. I was an older Grade School kid in 5th grade and they were a 1st grader. I'd let them it the first time because their parents weren't home and he had just moved in a few days prior.
He was hungry and there wasn't anything easy for him to make so I went and made us some sandwiches and chips and sat him down to watch PBS, clean him up too he was pretty wet from walking home from school no umbrella.
They lived their for a few months before moving. I'd walk him home and bring him up stairs to watch Fetch With Ruff Ruffman and make us something to eat and help him with homework. My Mom would come home after about an hour or so from work and she'd make us dinner.
It was just him and his Mother like me and my Mom but his Mother worked wayyyy later until nearly 7 o'clock at night or even till 8pm while my Mom came home at 4 or 4:30pm depending if she stopped to pick something up or go to the gas station.
I'd play with him and help him with homework and make sure he came home dry if it was raining as I took us home. And my Mother would make everything else was square away.
His Mom wasn't a bad mom she just worked pretty far away from home, made a decent income I'd wager because he had a nice room with toys and electronics. Just that his Mom wasn't able to be around, and that go to him. But also she was a young single parent in her early twenties. She shouldn't had had her 1st grader son going home to wait at times 5 hours or more for his mom to come home, maybe a babysitter or an afterschool program or something.
I still think about him occasionally and I hope he's doing well. They moved closer to her job when she found a place much closer to her work.
He wasn't only kid I use to look out for either, I'd do the same for a few other kids around the neighborhood. Getting the home and keeping a watch on the street to make sure all was well, me and a middle school aged girl were basically Neighborhood Watch: Kid Edition.
Nearly a whole street of latch key kids, and some more unfortunately than others but we took care of our own.
Poor baby I wish I could adopt him he's just so sweet and cute

Kotarou actually live by himself when his mother leave him,so he keep ringing every doors bell to seek attention or help to loose some of his boredom.
Actually the green sweater he always wearing is the only shirt he has that man give him a bundle of that shirt to him.
This show got me crying at 3 am 😭.

Now I understand more, Neglected children does have that tendency to seek help of others, of course. I live with food in my mouth three times a day, very happy and has family to look at me, one day three children, our neighbor's grandchild came to my aunt's house, our house and my aunt's is 1 meter away, I always play with my cousin and go to their house, they came to my aunt's house, we don't have any doorbell, we don't have gates and the doors are open, so they kinda stand there and the older one said "hello", their clothes were very dirty, her Little sister and brother was hiding behind her back, I can really sah she has courage and was brave calling us, then my aunt ask if they need something, she ask of we can get them foods, of course me as a child back then I still didn't understand their situation, I just thought they were poor and couldn't eat, but years later I heard my mom talking about them, that they got abandoned by their mother and was left by their grandparents who neglected them, then they seek for our help. Back to the time when they ask my aunt for food, we still have rice left but no other dishes left, they still gladly eat it, with soy sauce and salt, they were really happy and was thankful, my aunt couldn't offer them any more food because she have a glutton sons and niece, and at 6 in the morning, they would come in our house knocking and asking for food, it's like, they have a house, but we are their shelter, I mean for food. As a child after they keep bothering us I viewed them as annoying, sorry if I was a brat, we were not rich, we are glad to be able to eat 3 times a day so offering it to others kinda hard, you know my mom have 6 children, but we were given food, they're three but suffering, if we are not careful with our food then we will also suffer, so sometimes my mom will just give them a whole plate of rice without any more side dish, She felt guilty but she also have to feed six children, hearing my mom saying those memories again, and how she pitied them and how they were neglected, she was thankful that with her strength, she can raise us and fed us, we were not neglected and abandoned, now thinking how I act towards them, I felt very guilty, How I wish I could hug them and comfort them, looking back, her eyes says everything, I'm not really that bad okay? I am very friendly with her but sometimes got very annoyed, I'm still guilty though and felt very sorry, I couldn't say those words to her anymore because sadly, her life was taken that same year, tragically. She suffered and even her death is very tragic and painful, now, no one is knocking to our door anymore, asking for food and smiling brightly, sometimes, those who suffer greatly smiles brightly. If you ask what her cause of death is, think of medusa. I saw her corpse in the river floating with her belly bloated and her skin is very pale, there's a red mark on her forehead and her hands were open wide, and a dragonfly keeps flying to her and then it landed on her finger, and stays there, even when there's people around, last time I saw her, she was smiling, while holding her siblings hands then saying goodbye, I was thankful I was not being a brat that time. Then she went missing. My mom suspected her uncle one of the R, because her uncle was undeniably addict, the river are very close to their home and it's unlikely they couldn't hear her screams, because her siblings witnessed her suffering and they said she were screaming and so my aunt and mom are suspecting the uncle and their grandmother for being silent. Though I can't tell because she was crying (the grandmother) my mom also said maybe she's acting or something, because all that neglecting t her granddaughter, honestly, i can't tell, maybe she doesn't really know.
Let me rephrase one of my words, my mom suspected their uncle because he have a offense I guess or something and was jailed, and he was addicted to drugs and so my mom was thinking for possibilities, if i remember it right, the kids told us their uncle was their at the crime too.
Another words I like to rephrase, Even when there side dish is soy sauce or salt, they were very happy and gladly eat it, they even call it "delicious", like how kotaru says tissue are sweet. Soy sauce and salt it's also delicious putting on rice, because I too, when we only have rice have to eat rice with salt, or soy sauce or soy sauce with oil.
