There's actually a real life explanation to why Kotaro is so observant all a time. It's a learned survival skill. Kids who grew up in unstable house hold will try to observe traits and patterns in their abusers as to avoid their wrath or setting off extreme emotions in their caregivers.

I'm also really observant of people around me. As a kid, I didn't experience any domestic abuse from my parents, but the house helper, because my parents weren't around home as much because of their busy works. She always yell at us, spank, and even tried to kill one of our cats with our cleaver knife. I was longing for my parents' presence while going through such horrible experience from our house helper.

That a small kid notices stuff like that twitching finger is just over the top, but that is ok it's just an anime. Don't try to look for arguments why it still makes sense lul.

I think that people dont understand Tasuku character at all… he was a kid who had no home, no parental figure of unconditional love, and didn’t even had a safe place of trust. He started robbing at a very young age, if it was to survive or not is not important, the thing is that he was a kid who had no one to tell him in the propper way that robbing is not good…
I think that the most important topic here is the fact that these kids DO EXIST in real life, but in our world there are no “Kotaroes” that help them find the road of redemption, because NOBODY believes in them, no one believes that they can actually change (not even those kids themselves), nobody understands that the conditions in which they grew up made them do that, and that there is actually good-in-them.
Then they grow up and go to jail, and their life never get any getter. Their lack of unconditional love, their loneliness, their lack of a respect-security-honesty parental figure get them stuck on a dishonesty never ending cycle, which seals their life the moment they were born. But here, Kotaro helps break that cycle by loving and believing in him UNCONDITIONALLY, as our parents or tutors did with us when we told those little lies, or did those bad things being a kid. Kotaro here is the loving parental figure that Tasuku never had before.
Tasuku’s character is about one of the possible roads that a neglected kid can take, in a very real way, and how love can save them (which doesnt mean that he/they wont rob never again -because is very possible that they will-, but with an uncondicional loving figure they have this little chance of redemption and change).

Sadly it is a survival instinct that comes with growing up in a troubled home, the person may not even be aware of it but you learn to read people quickly and notice little things that indicate changes in there mental or emotional state. Those subtle changes can be the difference between getting to eat or getting beaten.

If Kotaru is only 4 years old, then this was 1 years ago, when he was 3 years old.. I know it’s stupid to compare this to reality but kids often don’t remember stuff when they were 3-4 years old. They are still developing articulation skills..
So it’s harder to suspend one’s disbelief for a series like this. kotaro was atleast 8-9 years old. Sure, some how suspension of disbelief is possible,. again this is my PO

It's deeper than "oh my gosh he scam a little boy" he was an orphan that got rejected everywhere and he got more rejected because one time he got arrested for stealing money, which you could say "well deserved" and for that I would say, you don't have a freaking idea how it feels to be really alone and don't have anything, and he tried his best to be someone but he got scammed by the people that he trusted, so he was desperate to get money to pay the debts, no, I'm not saying what he did was right but I can understand the situation and I am not like "OMG he scams a little boy" I'm more of, keep it up to fix your shit and be the person and the friend that your friends deserve.
