This puts a question mark on sea power projection by any superpower to deter any adversary. That WW2 hangup of the carrier battle groups is something that seems to have gone.
In case any US battle group engages with Iran and its ships get clobbered badly in the bargain, then the US is sure to lose face like never before.
It implies that any nation would be better off investing in ship-killing missile power rather than keep adding surface ships to be drowned by ship or carrier-killing missiles whose fearsome nature hasn't been unraveled just because there haven't been any major naval conflagrations where these missiles would fly thick and fast.
Today, surface naval power is a suspect quantity with any nation. Only sub-surface naval power has a deterrence value.
