I can't think of anything I'd change about this video. Clear, funny(but not to a point of ruining the teaching aspect), good use of editing, shots are visually well laid out, good order to the script. Keep it up.
I concur!
The toga
Couldn’t agree more!
The guy in the toga is a difficult image to get out my head.

This isn't the greatest card in the world, it's only a tribune. Well played, sir.
He's a genius!
Yeah that was a brilliant reference! :D
This video is a thing of beauty. It is a shining example of clear and concise communication. The humor even keeps you engaged. I don't know how much preparation it took to produce this explanation, but it is fantastic. If you could do this on a regular basis, I have no doubt this channel would dwarf watch it played within a year.
Thanks so much, grog. These videos take 40-70 hours for me to produce. i’be been at this since 2017, but have yet to eclipse any larger channels. :). But if you’d like to help get the word out, it would be a big help if you’d consider sharing my work in Facebook or Reddit.
The Tenacious D reference is what earns rightfully the Like
just saw the reference and immediately had to be sure it wasn't just me who noticed. long live the D
Excellent. You'll be my go-to for rules explanations for new games.
Thanks for the concise and humorous presentation. The editing is much appreciated in a sea of stream-of-consciousness babbling channels.
Thanks, Kasm! i've got unedited stream-of-consciousness babbling for you too - just check out my unboxing videos. ;)
Fantastic video, really enjoyed the highlighting of game components as you were talking about them and the subsequent example of the rule you just explained. Subbed
Thanks, Sam! More to come.
Marvelously balanced between information, comedy, and brevity. Looking forward to more!
Thanks, Sean!
Wow that is an incredibly clear, well-made, well edited instructional video! Like many of the comments above I can’t think of a single thing I would change. Fantastic work!
I'm finally getting this classic with the Venus expansion soon and I'm definitely using that Tenacious D joke when I teach this game to my group.
:P
This is a great tutorial. Clear, entertaining (without being distracting), very helpful vfx overlays. Really appreciate an updated/modern tutorial to an older game. Channel looks promising, subscribed!
Thanks, Brian!
You're such a good teacher. My five year old was instantly engaged. And me too! It really shows that you have played and understand the game. Thanks!
Thank you so much!
Jeez calm down there this has to be the clearest most concise and funny video I've ever watched it seems.
i WILL NOT CALM DOWWWWN!!! BLYEAAARERGH!!
+1 For the Tenacious D reference at 8:39! Well played.
(they want the D)
This is a great video. Just funny enough to not be fully dry instruction, but not so goofy it detracts from the actual learning. Great all around, super easy to understand, excellent editing and graphics.
This is probably the best how to play video I've ever seen. Fantastic stuff!!
Best and clearest tutorial for this game I have found! At least on a par with “John gets games”. You sir, have just gained another subscriber.
Loving the animated way the pieces move to better see how the game plays. Keep doing more of these!
Thanks! Working on more, for sure... but they're time-consuming :)
I am playing for the first time tomorrow. Great explanation video. I am ready.
Great video, Ryan! Love the video clip you included. I really need to watch that movie again…
What they all said. Utterly brilliant video! The highlights and animations were so effective and original. Keep up the amazing work :-)
Haven't played Concordia in years... This was a great How-to-play video! Cheers mate!
Super succinct and clear! Colour me impressed. Not to mention this is maybe the first "funny" rules explanation I've seen that was genuinely funny rather than distracting.
Thanks, Benjamin. To understated humour! (clinks glass)
Brilliant made tutorial! Love the effort and enthusiasm.
What an eloquent, clear and intelligent explanation. The toga and the Python clip were pleasant bonuses!
Thanks, beijingpete!
0:35 got me excited for a moment there before I looked at the screen.
Very educational and one of the best how to play videos I've seen! Thanks for that! If there is one thing I would change is to Maybe talk a little slower. Not sure if it's because I am not as smart as most people, tired after work or just the fact that English is my second language. Either way, thanks a ton for a wonderful tutorial 🙂🙏
I really like the way you teach. It clicks. Now i have to remember it and do it again in front of my friends !
Thanks so much! (You could also just show them the video ;) )
How have I never seen this channel before?! I'll be coming here for all games explanations from now on. Brilliant. Subscribed. 👍
Excellent tutorial. As near to perfect tuition as we are likely to find. And I really appreciate you referring to game currency by its actual name, even though it is a bit of a mouthful. Too many board game videos insist on referring to game currency as "dollars" or "bucks", regardless of what it is actually called, which I find to be arrogant and not cool. I have subscribed. Thank you!
Thanks! Although i’ll confess i keep a regular habit of referring to game dollars as “buckazoids.” Blame my Space Quest upbringing.
Great video! Excellent work.
Great job always.
If I have a game I want to learn. You are the first channel I check to see if you have a video for that game.
Fantastic. Thanks, Andres! i know it's probably a long list, but what do you think i'm missing?
@@NightsAroundaTable haha just more games. Having more how play videos. As I said, I search for your videos first and sometimes I have to settle for other how to play videos.
As others have mentioned, you are very clear with your explanations and organize your thoughts in a way that make sense. You also have the perfect balance of jokes in your videos.
That was a really good review. I think the best concordia review on RUclips. Great video!
Hey - thanks!
Best. Video. Explanation. Ever. Very clear, and the little puns (tribune...) are hilarious. Not to mention the luscious toga. More please.
Current status: donning toga.
Totally entertaining video and so easy to follow. Thank you.
Just loved the Tenacious D reference in the video. Good job mate.
Excellent tutorial. Thank you!
I really like the clarify of your explanations. Please you do it in a lighthearted way which is refreshing. I just subscribed!
Thanks so much, baba ali! That helps a lot.
These board game came out on Google play and im buying it now after watching these. I think i might play.
Yes! i played the Steam version (same codebase) last week on a stream:
ruclips.net/video/NUyox-cPJpw/видео.html
You are the best. Please make more videos, especially for 'older' games.
Amazing video, love the humour and super informative! :)
Great video, enjoyed it very much, thanx!
Clear editing and explanation, I don't think I've seen one better! Well done Ryan!
Thanks, Andrew!
Am I the only one thinking that maybe the gameboard sides are flipped? ITALIA should be the one who is not played, and the one shown is Imperium. Basically Italia is Italy (the map shown on the back of the board is the map of Italy and it's islands). And the one shown is the one of the area under the Roman Empire... So makes sense to be the Imperium one instead.
Fantastic video. Thanks for your time putting this together. My friend and I just used this and we’re playing in 15 minutes!
Thank you! Hope you enjoy it! The first two times i played 2p with my friend, we didn't understand how the scoring worked, and we wound up with dead even scores both times. When we finally understood that the god cards were multipliers across different categories, we were like "...ohhhhhhhh." Facepalm.
Really excellent job on this video, thank you!
Pretty clever that the gods match up to what the card does. Jupiter gives you points for cities and is on the Architect card that lets you build cities. Mars gives you points for colonists so is on the Colonist card, etc
Yeah! It's something that didn't even dawn on me until my third playthrough.
I lost it when he spun the bottle and threw twenty dice at it to determine the start player! Brilliant! 😅
I'm glad your edit didn't include the man-toga...nothin' wrong with that!
Yeah... i considered blurring out all the shots that featured my soft, womanly chest, but i ran out of blur.
Whoo hoo, ready to play
I've learned 2 games now from watching you videos so far. They're great. On par with the top 3 rules channels.
Thanks! Which are the top three rules channels you enjoy?
@@NightsAroundaTable My personal top 3 Rules channels (not runthroughs) are #1 GamingRules! #2 WatchItPlayed #3 JonGetsGames . I hope your channel takes off even more in 2019 and you join the top lists of even more people. I subscribed earlier.
@@antgerfitz Thank you for the intel. i will now go and TP their houses.

1:27 killed me - thank you for that laugh sir!
"On your turn, you play one card from your hand, and perform its actions" ?
Wow man, excellent video! Clear and concise. I just picked up Concordia and this video was exactly what I was looking for. Thank you Sir! Subscribed.
Thanks, Robert! How did you like the game?
So, I’ve had a chance to play Concordia a few times now and I’m pleased to say that I absolutely LOVE it. The gameplay is extremely smooth and elegant in a way. Minimal rules to bog you down but a ton of depth. Immediately after my first game I picked up the Salsa expansion and upgraded to metal coins. Concordia moonwalked into my Top 10 and I can’t see it going anywhere but up for a long time to come. Thanks again for the awesome vid!
How do you like Salsa? i wasn't bonkers enough over Concordia to warrant it (or maybe because of the laughably bad cover art?) Metal coins, weirdly, can really increase your enjoyment of a game.
THIS IS A TRIBUNE!!!
YOU GOTTA BELIEVE ME!
IT'S THE GREATEST CARD IN THE WORLD, OOH BOY!!!
great job explaining all the concepts! Thank you!
Perfect video
thanks! just got the game for christmas and was a bit uncertain how the game is played after reading the rules, this video helped a lot!
My pleasure, Jonathan!
I am 3 years late, but this video highlighted everything so clearly for me
Such a great video. Really glad this is out there!
Great tutorial! Definitely the best one for Concordia. Subscribed!
Thanks, Jolyon!
I found your channel from a recommendation on reddit! Subbed & love your content!
Thanks so much, Joel!
Subscribed for fantastic content. Also, nice little D reference there.

Excellent tutorial, concise and easy to follow along! Subscribed =)
Wow. That was great.
Amazing video!
Prefect card: rules say it doesn't matter who owns house in a city. If you flip the tile, you get resources for every house in that province, regardless of owner.
Give that rulebook another look.
Excellent explanation!
Really great video, superb production value. Subscribed and notifications on. :) Looking now to see if you've got any other games I want to explain to family / friends.
Fantastic, Tom. Thanks.
Outstanding! Many thanks.
Thank you so much for this! Very helpful, very clear. They should hire you to write the game manual :)
Excellent video, funny but not interfereing with the information. Seems like a rad dude to play games with too
Thanks, Pippin! i think i play too slowly for most people’s liking, and i do tend to get bogged down when there’s a broad decision space. i’m good at seeing a variety of different paths to take, but i need to get better at determining which path is optimal.
Just started getting back into board games. Used to play only Avalon Hill types. Wow, I have some catching up to do! Ordered this game yesterday
i hope you enjoy it!
Nights Around a Table . Ok I understand the idea of the architect card, but what does the strip on the bottom mean? It shows, a card, sias “tools” and shows the tool icon. The strip is red. Is that for scoring or taking an action like a card or tool? I guess after playing Istanbul, Im thinking Im missing something
@@gowensbach2998 The particular Architect card you're looking at isn't one of the standard cards you begin with - it's one of the cards that can get dealt out to the shopping row at the top of the board. The red strip with tools on it is the cost of purchasing the card when you play the Senator (plus the cost depicted below the card, printed on the board, which changes depending on which slot the card is in). Check out 6:17.
Nights Around a Table just realized I had distributed the cards incorrectly! Now it makes sense. My final question is once you buy a card, like say, the farmer, does it stay in your hand for the rest of the game?
@@gowensbach2998 Yes! You spend the card, and it goes in your discard pile, which you reclaim back into your hand when you play your Tribune card. At the end of the game, during Minerva scoring, the Farmer gets you points for all your food cities.
Great, well-paced review, but I don't think anyone has commended you yet on the careful use of the singular vs. plural sestertius and sestertii--shows how much you care about the details.
Thanks for noticing! i get hung up on pronunciation, particularly of people and place names. That's why i haven't done a video on Teotihuacán ;)
Yeah, words. Different letters, different pronunciations. Weird, wild stuff. I mean, can you imagine? 🙄🙄🙄
Wow, this is a fantastic video! Subscribed for sure.
Thanks, pezking! i appreciate it.
Very well done. I like the toga. :-) White looks good on you. :-)
It's so slimming. ;)
"...But these two jerks are already here!" Hahah well said ^^
Great review btw!
Wow, this is a great teach!
Late to the party but an incredibly great instructional video! 😎🤘
Great video!
Subscribed! Good stuff!
I just noticed in the beginning of the video you show the Italia map when you call it Imperium, and show the Imperium map when you call it Italia.
That was a test specifically to see if you were paying attention, Brian. Congratulations!
@@NightsAroundaTable Mom will be proud :P
13:39 Every other player going clockwise around the table gets one additional sestertius __than the previous player__ to start.
Your addition doesn’t do anything to further clarify that statement though (?) What else could it mean without that?
@@NightsAroundaTable Offhand, I took it to mean the first player gets 5, every other player gets 6.
10:45 it's more easy if you do...one point for every 10$
Fab video!
Thanks, Matthew! Do you own Concordia?
@@NightsAroundaTable Yes, I grabbed it after watching the SUSD review and we have really enjoyed it. Watching your vid for a refresher after a break in plays and it did the job perfectly. Thanks very much for your content 😀
Very nice
Amazing overview of the game!! I was about to buy The Castles of Burgundy but this video raised some doubts in me. Do you have a clear preference between these two? Which game is more fun and has better replayability? Thanks :))
Thanks, Kseniia! They're both great games. Between the two, i think Concordia has better replayability. You can buy extra maps for Concordia, but CoB has varied player boards right out of the box. Concordia feels a lot more like you're playing WITH people, whereas CoB borders on multiplayer solitaire (apart from a few elements). So that bit of info could play to your preferences.
Here's my Burgundy video in case you missed it:
nightsaroundatable.com/2017/12/03/how-to-play-the-castles-of-burgundy/
@@NightsAroundaTable Thank you! The distinction of playing with/next to people made it clear for me as I prefer the former.
How do these games compare to Istanbul (Big Box edition)? Although all reviews I have checked point mostly to Concordia, I am mesmerized by Istanbul's theme.
@@kseniiakalinina1520 i have only ever played Istanbul once, and only the base game without all the bells and whistles. i enjoyed it. It has a mancala-like mechanic (akin to Five Tribes) where you're "sowing" your workers around a grid of tiles. Modular setup, multiple strategies. i'm sure the Big Box adds a ton of variation.
Oooohhhh I just wish I could take a scrapper and just ... Ugh!
Did you play black jack or jack black? Tribute😉
Ok but i have question and it might be silly.. but how to gain resources? I know i can gain them from the cities or whatever i’ve builded but what the mechanics of gaining resources from my buildings?
The Prefect! Play the card, pick a province, flip the tile. If you choose goods instead of money, everyone with a city in that province gets goods too! You can also use the Mercator card to buy goods.
the italian accent "Ina RomA too!" 😅
Not to brag, but i picked up a little Italian from playing Super Mario Bros.
Concerning Manerva cards...Do you multiply your base score by the number of manerva cards in your hand as well?
For example
Net score of farmer cards + net score of cloth card x2 since you have two manerva cards?
Randyj2125 I don’t think there are multiples of the Manerva cards. Don’t quote me on that, but it didn’t come up in the 5p game I had recently.
Randyj2125 Minerva has only one, and its special. So no multiplayers, if you did have the weaver (cloth) and the farmer (wheat) you score each independent. Vesta and Minerva only have one card per type to score.
Great video, how did you do the stop motion on opening the game board? Fishing line? That was cool.
Thanks, Mike! It's so cheesy. When the board peaks and looks like it's floating, notice that there's a good chunk of it off-camera to the left... just enough room for me to be holding it, with my thumb on top out of frame. ;)
@@NightsAroundaTable very nice!
@@NightsAroundaTable What about the tile flip at 4:41?
@@MagicMikeD Aha! Tile flips are a trade secret! But i've shot a how-to video that my supporters on Patreon can access that shows how i do it.

Ill be the rule lawyer here and say, one of the condition is not of buying the last card, but buying a card when no more can replace the bought vard.
Objection!
From the rulebook: "Game End. If a player purchases the last personality card and such empties the display on the board..."
Winner
I suppose you technically could Diplomat a Diplomat, but it wouldn’t change anything.
Ah, but the rulebook expressly forbids it! Someone from Rio Grande Games comes to your house and slaps you with a citation.
Seems like a fun but difficult game
It's fun, but not too difficult! What's your familiarity with hobby board games? i think this one is a bit more enjoyable than Catan, with a similar complexity.
@@NightsAroundaTable Although I usually played a few board games like monopoly in my childhood but I have gotten into german board gaming just 5 months ago during covid 19 lockdown in India. I have bought almost 9 games since March this year. Some of my favourites are Istanbul, splendor, TTR US and Europe, Carcassonne and forbidden island. I play with my 10 year old son who is as excited as I am to play them.
I would be really thankful if you could please make a gameplay of Istanbul with both expansions. Not a single video on RUclips on this....I love the way u explain in your videos....Great going. Got yourself a new subscriber1
@@NightsAroundaTable for some reason I have never really liked Catan mainly because its 3 player and because of the trading involved. If you have a player who is not interested much in trading then the game is boring just like monopoly
@@Physiology-E-Paathshala Thanks, sharat! Those are great picks, by the way. And if you and your son can handle Istanbul, Concordia would be no problem for you.
@@Physiology-E-Paathshala i remember the first time i played with a strategic trader. Someone asked for brick, and the guy looked at the board and said "You can't make brick. So no, i'm not going to trade it to you." Harsh, but made a lot of sense.
nice
Really well done (and easy on the eye! wink wink nudge nudge)
Oo-er, missus! Wait until i cover The Settlers of Nude Catan!
