    One more tip I'd give is: Don't ignore food production. Food is arguably used even more than brick, as you'll need food to build settlers, and food is often used as a cost for things in the store.
    Mercator is much better when you're playing the "tall" strategy, where you get fewer cities, but more "value" by controlling more expensive resources. For example, if a single region has a cloth and a wine, if you build a city on both, every time you Prefect you will get 2 cloth and 1 wine, which is +20 bucks worth of materials. The "tall" strategy is not great in base Concordia, but a lot more viable with the Venus exansion

    Great video! Definitely learned something. I'm still iffy on the Mercator card. I use it a lot to sell expensive goods and buy cheap ones (mostly brick), but I end up wanting the expensive goods again to buy cards or build. Probably should use Mercator more just to buy, unless I really have an obsolete resource, but then I find myself low on coin...

      I find it useful situationally, but I don't play it often during a game.

      @@LegendaryTactics Perhaps some strategies where a player specialises in one kind of god, or how to build all your houses as fast as possible, or perhaps techniques to stall the game or buy a lot of cards fast. Im new to the game so I dont know anything about the deeper strategies but I'm wanna learn these.

    Been playing a ton of 5p games versus the hard AI, and a few lessons:
    1. you have ~20 turns before the AI ends the game
    2. a winning score is going to be in the 90-105 point range.
    3. its pretty much impossible to rush the end by building 15 houses; you can expect about 8 on the board by end game.
    4. the best use of diplomat is to diplomat an oppenent's architect in the opening, then senator / consul.
    5. as a result of #4, you can expect to tribune twice if doing competitively

    • @LegendaryTactics
      @LegendaryTactics  2 года назад +2

      Very good points, thank you! The only one I might challenge is the early Senator as you need to have the resources to build your infrastructure. I usually take it later on in the turn. But that may be down to style of play.

    Hey, nice tips. I'll have my Vintner any day, thank you very much, though. Depending on the map of course.

    • @LegendaryTactics
      @LegendaryTactics  3 года назад +1

      Yes, the Vintner (and the Weaver) can both be great cards, but they are so expensive to develop you might not get great value out of them before game's end. Depends on the board, of course, as you said!

    These suggestions are accurate but are very generalized and would benefit a player just overcoming the basics. Not as specific or in-depth as I was hoping for. cheers

    • @LegendaryTactics
      @LegendaryTactics  2 года назад

      Sorry if it wasn't to your taste. I'm not sure how specific a guide like this can be, as so much advice depends on the players you face, the game state, and your specific play style. I'll give it some thought, though, and see if I can come up with something more in-depth for you!

    I would say more emphasis should be put on COLONISTS. Getting them all out creates more space for goods & get as many MARS CARDS as possible to really multiply the value of the Colonists in endgame scoring.
    Def. agree that beginners should spread their options as much as possible & have fun that way, but there are various paths to victory & experienced players will seek to SPECIALISE (such as focussing on colonists & Mars cards or 1 particular good) & react to what other players are aiming for.

    i like the Mason card over the Farmer one especially early in the game as i will be building on brick cities anyway as a foundation for my empire. Building on brick costs half as much coin and resources than wheat while counting the same victory points. I think there are more brick cities than wheat too but Im not sure.
    My last live game with 4 players i bought the Mason card on turn 1 because it was luckily on the cheap end while everyone else did architect; I took the Smith later and mainly focused building on cities with those two resources and won the game by 30 points. I was slower in building than others but since the resources and penalties were cheapish it didnt matter too much, my final two architect builds were on 4 cities each!

    • @LegendaryTactics
      @LegendaryTactics  3 года назад +1

      The Mason and the Farmer card are pretty close in value, I think. But that was a heck of a power play at the end there for the win...how did you manage up to that point with only 7 houses in place? Great job!

      @@LegendaryTactics well this was our 3rd or 4th game so we will all made mistakes including myself like no one wanting end the game just yet giving me a little extra time to catch up. I focused on getting my all colonists out and in position to reach every part of the map, getting Mars cards along the way; cash was tight but at the end there were still a few open cities at the edges of map so i was able to stretch my dollar.
