Challenge to me is not being able to tell who's actually ahead when in the mid-game.

Terraforming Mars, definitely snowballs in terms of your engine getting more and more powerful. By the halfway point after milestones are claimed its only possible to tell someone is going to win if the game is really unbalance like one person has earth catapult and two milestones, etc.

It takes some time to get used to counting and tracking scores manually, and the variety of strategic archetypes and their typical scoring curve progressions can certainly make that process take even longer to get used to.
You can always resort to using a spreadsheet and update the scores in real time until you get more used to calculating scores in your head. After a while you’ll become so accustomed to it that you’ll find you won’t even need something like “pen and paper” to track scores any more and your subconscious will do a pretty good job of knowing the ballpark and that just leaves the final gen of a match as the one moment where you’ll have to do the accounting with precision.

I'm surprised he didn't put more emphasis on milestones. We often find we can beat each other to claiming a third one by a matter of a few actions within the same generation and that a 5-10 VP swing would've made all the difference. This generally holds true regardless of player count, but in 4 or 5-player where the engines don't get quite as bonkers, a flat 5 VP can be crucial.

I agree on most of what he is saying but I heavily disagree on a few notes:
About UNMI, 3:55. It can be an effective corp in 2 or 3 player games, if you have good rush cards for it. If your opponent is building a huge engine and you can't keep up, you want to end the game quickly with lots of TR, and here UNMI is a good choice. I agree that it is a weak corp in general, but I don't understand at all the argument that it would be unplayable in 2-3p games
At 6:33, that's just wrong in many situations. If you have nothing good to do, passing with 20-30 MC is perfectly fine. What should you do instead, standard project a greenery or city? Of course, if you have good production cards you should play them, but if not, waiting for something better and saving money is definitely the way to go.
At 6:48. Disagree, there is no reason to play a card like for example Research first gen, as you can wait for synergies, like Mars university, Olympus or Earth catapult. If you play a card that draws you more cards that you can't afford to play immediately, why would you play it now?
As Boneless says, he is a huge engine lover, and therefore his opinion and advice are way too heavily skewed towards that. Just by looking at 18:58, that situation will never happen against experienced players. If you play like he plays against an experienced Ecoline player (1v1) who has a lot of heat prod, you would most likely lose.
In the end, his advice is definitely good for beginner players - lots of good takes on basic strategy. But this is not solid advice for advanaced players, or even intermediate players, IMO.

Silly question. He said “if I can get 4 or 5 actions in a row.” How is this possible? Maybe I am doing actions and generations wrong? I thought we go around the table with each player playing actions forever until everyone has passed. How can that result in 4-5 actions in a row?

Maybe he meant: if all other players have passed their turns and you are the last one doing your actions? (You do everying you can)

Especially when he will be the first player in the next generation, he can save actions in the current generation until everyone has passed, then take, say 2-3 actions, then take another 2 actions to start the next generation.

Sorry about that. Sometimes when presenting general strategy, the problem is that there is no footage that would accurately portray what the speaker is discussing, or it would just be too unwieldy to present visually.

I thought the video was strong, especially the overlays showing the referenced cards.
