I just watched 20 versions of this intro live. I'm a guitar teacher and I wanted to check if John was bending from the 11th or 10th fret (I've seen both on tabs). All of the live videos so far just showed the band jumping around, but none showed John's guitar playing apart from this one for a split second. The live versions are much, much better than the studio version. :))) Just did earlier today. I'm guessing you like the Slane Castle version because it has a very wild, raw, edgy side? :D I like this version most because, yes it's live, but it's soo powerful, yet clean, and efficient. To illustrate: The Slane Castle version is like listening to the ocean, whilst the Rock AM Ring is like listening to a powerful water pump.

His riffs were fcking ouzstanding and filled with so much rough power and feeling. Sure - he wasnt technical at all - but he really expressed himself in music - unlike show off guys like slash.
iive had ibanez, gibson and jackson guitars, i sold em all and have a tele, its my favourite guitar and the neck is so fast, i thought it would play and sound like an old mans guitar, but its a rocking machine dude, this videos enough proof, also j.f is grate
another reason this particular performance sounds a lot more ballsy is that John is using a tele instead of his usual strat..he's good enough with the strat, but a strat's tone is a bit too neat and neutered compared to the tele's, it's more...untamed

Personally, I prefer bending the 10th fret a full step. Just sounds 'fuller' to me.
