- Today we look at Minecraft Apple TV Edition. The last release version of Minecraft to be preserved and saved from the depths of hell. I check out the gameplay and whine like a bitch about various things like the iCloud saves and broken keyboard. It might be the most exciting thing you've ever seen in your life. the amount of data an app can store locally is insanely small, either you have to store it in a cache that can be deleted whenever the tv feels like or you have to use cloud storage, why though??
The ATV doesn't allow local storage for apps at all. You get local cache but the OS can and will delete it at will to save space.
I bought this game when it first released and never played it, and I just recently found out this was a rare and obscure edition despite it being sitting on my Apple TV for years.

When I think about this edition my mind goes to some 9-year-old at his dad's house. After recently divorcing, his Xbox is stuck at his mom's house and his parents won't buy him an iPad after he broke his last one. While trying to find Minecraft videos on the Apple TV one afternoon, he gets the Minecraft app in his search results. He nags his dad for a few hours until he caves and spends the 8 dollars on buying it for him. For the next few months, he spends his Saturdays with his dad playing Minecraft on the Apple TV, an experience almost entirely unique to him. He plays with friends, builds some castles, and even goes to the end for the first time! When Christmas finally came, his dad got him an iPad, and a few months later his dad got rid of the Apple TV box. While he never plays nor plans to play this game again, he still remembers the good times in a suckier stage of his life.

It's pretty lame honestly. The last version released for it was 1.16.201 on December 15, 2020 and it's almost the exact same thing as the FireOS version

- The game will not boot if you're signed into icloud (hangs at title screen)
- Only Ep1-5 released on Apple TV
- We know it exists
- We know what the app name and icon looks like

So they basically added always-online DRM to Minecraft.
I do still have Minecraft Apple TV edition on my apple TV without any developer account or troll store, although that is because I got it when it was supported a while back, and even when I kept upgrading apple tv's after another, it still is supported on my apple tv without any type of crashing. Also it does run perfectly with a nimbus, and the iCloud does work, but I guess you can't get it anymore without having an iCloud that has had the app before.

I watched the last video thinking you re-uploaded it. I'm glad that wasn't the case. I'm also happy that you gotten yourself into the obscurity and pain that is Apple Jailbreak.
In case you didn't know, you can sideload regular iOS Minecraft into tvOS using tweaks.
Also, you can circumvent the keyboard issue by using an iPhone or an iPad as a remote, which brings the keyboard UI up in the remote device instead of the TV.
Reminds me of Disney Infinity for Apple TV, used to play it every day when I was younger until it got shut down.

Crazy how the Apple TV runs better than switch. I just got my first ever Apple TV and I’m really happy with it.
It is not surprising. The Switch port was originally really well optimized too, but the newer updates destroyed it.

Do you live in the USA? It's just that, as a resident of Russia, I'm interested to know how much you know about Yandex (or VK, Sber, etc.)
@@lampochka._. I'm not a representative of the entire country, but Yandex is not really all too respected or used. US has basically no Internet data protection laws a la the EU's GDPR, which means the mass harvesting of users browsing history is very common among the big corporations, (Microsoft, Google, etc)
Most Americans don't fancy their every movement being logged, so they turn to smaller, more privacy focused browsers, Brave, Firefox, etc.
Problem is, they're small browsers run by smaller companies that don't have the resources to out do the big guys in terms of ease of use, search time, amount of results, etc.
So when choosing a browser, it's very much a balancing act between privacy and convenience.
TOR is very private, but loads slow, struggles with images, can't save Cookies, and has a small user base.
Firefox is pretty private, has good enough search engines, can save Cookies, has a decently sized userbase
Chrome has almost no privacy, excellent search engines with a whole bunch of other useful stuff like built-in word processors and email capabilities and a very large userbase
Which brings me back to Yandex...and why it has none of the qualities a lot of Americans look for.
As for privacy, Yandex uses Kaspersky antivirus...which the US government just banned for connections to Moscow.
As for convenience, almost nobody here uses it, I'm not sure it even has an organized English community, which means that when you have a problem specific to Yandex, no one can really help you.
As for search engines, I think it uses the same set as Firefox, which makes it redundant.
There's also the fact that Americans don't really trust software from Russia. It very much has a stereotype of being either a virus or spyware.

This video and your older one were really cool! If you're interested in making videos about other forgotten discontinued Minecraft versions, Minecraft Nintendo Switch Edition is my personal favorite. It's the shortest lived legacy console edition as Bedrock replaced it fairly quickly, but it somehow still has a community of people who play it regularly. It's impossible to buy it, as it was never released physically. The only way to play it is to either find it online or to have already bought it back when it was for sale.

17:00 - it's *possible* that you could decompile/modify the ipa to remove all the cloud shit and then resign it with an unpaid developer account, which would break consistent world saves (unless you could replace it with something else, which is something an actual experienced iOS developer would need to do) but it would at least install and probably be able to join LAN on a world hosted/stored on another device.
20:33 - *I NEED TO STOP COMMENTING BEFORE FINISHING THE VIDEO* 💀💀💀 but yeah it would be possible to hardcode a custom "cloud" server by sending requests to a specific URL you control to post/fetch your world saves, or just risk storing data in the *slightly* more persistent cache rather than RAM. which, yes, CAN get deleted, but realistically that's only when storage is low. as long as you've got free space available it would survive relaunches/reboots just fine for a while. this is what some emulator developers have given up and decided to do despite apple's efforts to f*ck them.

The size it says in the saves menu, it tells you how big the save is inside of the cloud.
the apple tv restrictions on app storage is the most apple thing ever
10:35 im gonna make the guess and say the only reason why there is no crafting menu on apple tv edition is because the crafting menu was from 4j studios, not mojang (i think) and as this is based of bedrock, it dosen't have this menu, just like normal bedrock... its dumb, but.......oh well (edit: yes it does have a crafting menu, so my theroy is wrong.)

Np. I always thought that was weird, because the FireTV version kept the PE crafting menu, but the Apple TV version didnt, and they were both the same port of Pocket Edition

I'm pretty sure I had iron in my inventory. So when the creeper blew up, I died and my iron just happened to be in view. The death screen didn't show up cuz the "connection lost" popup was on screen
