  • Had a day trip out to eastern Washington planned but woke up a bit sick. So, I decided to do a little portrait session with Alicia. Used a new constant light I just purchased as well as the Pentax AF400t. Shot these on the Pentax 67ii with Portra 800 and Kentmere 400. Enjoy!

    Congratulations to Alicia for decorating your new place so well, and I guess so fast! The place looks awesome, you guys! Your office/video backdrop looks really solid, too. Quite a change from the old set. I’m really liking these after the commercial break closing segments, too. They’ve all been very relatable to me. Photography of places and people that very much mean something to me, purely so I’ll have the photos to spark memories, has always been the most fun for me by far. ✌️

      Thanks, Bob! Alicia has the eye for that interior design stuff haha!
      And yep, that’s the purest part of photography! Can always pick up the camera just for the fun of it 🤠

    Good on you for recognizing that inner voice of doubt and remembering to create just for the sake of creating. Portraiture is something I have never done and you have inspired me to figure out a way to make that happen. Peace.

      Any old big Metz flash will do the same job better, as you can rotate the head and ceiling bounce the light. try it!

    Idea: why not take a class on studio lighting from your local community college so you have some idea of what you are doing with your fancy equipment? And, oh, yes why not get a portrait lens? That could be the 135 macro, the 150 f 2.8, or one of the 165mm lenses or the 200 f 4.0. All work great, I know from personal experience.

    I agree about the how and why we make photos. Too many times we are worried about the greater context instead of the image in front of us. I’ve discovered after all this time, I’ve been shooting since 1970, just make the images and more times than not a project, or zine or a story tells itself or is just sitting there in your files or portfolio ready to be be assembled from what you have already. Have fun make images and then projects and greater meaning or context takes care of itself

      Great point, Sophie! One of these days I’m sure I’ll get around to sorting through all the negatives and finding a project within them.

    Direct flash sucks all the time, unless used as a fill flash. Use the monster flash in a room or ballroom to light the ceiling and or wall. this will avoid making your subjects looking like fried eggs, and going blind! I know this, as I have been shooting cameras since the mid 60s, and you know what? that's a long time!

    I actually really like the B&W. Nice contrast and the lighting really pops.
    You could have pushed the B&W to allow for higher shutter speed. Of course a leaf shutter would have helped with sharpness hand held.

    • @BraeHunziker
      @BraeHunziker  5 месяцев назад

      Yeah was thinking about pushing it but decided I didn’t want to. Might try that next time.
      That’s one of the reasons I loved the Bronica gs-1, that lead shutter glass is very nice!

    For those shaky shutter speeds even a use of a cheap stupid monopod would help, it doesn't have to be a full tripod every time, not necessarily for 1/60th of a sec. Just saying...
