      Sheed is absolutely one of favorite college and pros.. I am glad that this interview and subsequent truth being told. I absolutely believe that both egos and corporate corruption took place, but sometimes Sheed just had to be right, and hurt his team with techs. Now, he may have been right in what he said, but sometimes couldn’t let go. I think Sheed is one of the best small/power forward /center.. There’s no doubt in my mind, that game 7 with the Lakers was on the refs.. they absolutely wanted the Lakers with Shaq and Kobe to get a Championship

    That Portland "screwjob" was absolutely coming from David Stern. He wanted Los Angeles in the finals for the market. Blazers up 16 going into the 4th and the Lakers magically shot 27 free throws in the 4th. That COULD NEVER happen if things were 'on the level' and it was the whole crew of refs, not him

    • @gordonshumway5933
      @gordonshumway5933 Год назад +2

      Of course not, adrenaline and the flow of the game like phantom fouls and playing in a western conference final on national television for an established league and your lead going away bc you’re attempting to play defense on the LA darlings probably had something to do with missing some shots. I’m sure the pressure an athlete feels knowing they are being officiated differently than their opponents who they aren’t allowed to play defense against had something to do with missing some shots. But great job pointing out Portland couldn’t persevere against the mighty lakers and the NBA screw job taking place, that’s totally on the Blazers I guess, like it’s only cheating if the blazers make their shots kinda thing. And it’s not like it ever happened again, two years later against the Kings, or against the Celtics years after that in the finals.

    In hindsight that was a genius move to bet on games based on who was officiating them and their relationship with certain players.
    I feel Sheed and Bonzi's pain in this interview. They lost money, endorsement deals, and most of all games. I also have to give Tim Donaghy his flowers for telling his side of the story and having the character too move on and succeed in life after the Feds and the NBA brought him to his knees.

    Thats the hard part about these situations. Sheed saw through the veil and was rightfully outraged but when he expressed that emotion outwardly they labeled him as crazy. It happens in so many areas of life and the ones behind the scenes will try and turn the screws on you when you see the foul shit they're doing.

    • @edwardthames9003
      @edwardthames9003 Год назад +2

      I was thinking, listening to Tim, that sounds eerily similar to the corrupt actions of police officers. They took appear to want to impress and be accepted by their peers and understood that behavior would propel their careers. In addition they understood that to go against such a practices would be detrimental to their careers.
      The thing Sheed and Bonzie are avoiding, although I'm positive they discussed at the time time was the racism and jealousy that were motivating factors in their actions. This nation avoids talking about that aspect of behavior in society. It's as if they consider talking about it more egregious than the nefarious acts themselves. It's the primary reason that sentiment is still prevalent today in all aspects of society.
      The assertion is that talking about it is what keeps it going . This despite the fact that it actually not being talked about hasn't at all stopped it from happening. I guess they still feel that those that were raised to think and act in discrimination still need time to get used to the concept of equality and should not be forced to accept it. The question that still goes unanswered is "if now is still not a good time then when will it be"?

    What Bonzi's saying at 33:50 applies to any Blazer fan, except the "how hard we worked" part. Unless you want to talk about the time and emotion you put into being a fan. But to a 19 year old who doesn't have the ability to see sports only as entertainment, 2000 was demoralizing. I didn't handle 03 too well either, I threw a record through my wall during game 7. I couldn't care less about the NBA anymore, it's a blessing.

  • @LegacyBridge
    @LegacyBridge 2 года назад +3

    24:30 Be fair 'Sheed. I wasn't on the NBA court but I've played with professional players and I know basketball pretty well from playing it. Refs weren't just giving techs for no reason most of the time. From the outside looking in during college games, spectators could see that you were giving refs and some players a little extra on the court convo. I don't know many people that would say that you weren't "saying anything extra" or doing anything extra".
    Call it what it is even if it's wrong. Some players don't like each other. Some players don't like certain refs...and vice versa. Some players and coaches don't like each other.

    Man, the fans felt for the players when they witnessed these moments, not realizing it stemmed from bad officiating. But in the end, the fans suffered too, particularly those who bought tickets to watch bogus gamesmanship. I certainly hope today, these types of officiating occurrences are mitigated. The fan base now includes massive money venues such as pay-per-view, subscription plans, etc., where fans deserve the games to be won straight up. Or have the fans become blind and the referee's entertainment is just a part of the game.
