Something I would add is that many threadlockers have shelf lives. For example, that rocksett bottle looks like it might be starting to separate. When rocksett separates, it has a white layer on the bottom and clear up top. You can’t see what’s happening in most threadlocker tubes, so it’s probably a good idea to mark your tubes and bottles when you buy them and maintain a disposal schedule according to the manufacturer’s recommendation. Just a friendly heads up. It seems wasteful, but don’t try to use the same tube of threadlocker for 10 years.

Rocksett Is good from -350° to a little bit over 2000°
I use it on all of my gas block set screws and muzzle devices.
I use purple thread lock for tiny set screws and small hardware.
Purple is designed for small threads. It will not come loose unless you wanted to but you will not have issues stripping out small Allen head or torx head screws like you could with the blue.
Yeah, rocksett can handle really high heat. I actually bought something called "hot lock" a while back to mount muzzle devices that suppresors attached to. If I recall correctly the label says it's good to 2200-2400°F. Needless to say, I've never had an MD come loose. Lol.

Hi, looks like I need help I have a Guntec handrail when Torquing the barrel nut with 3 shims @ 30ft-lb the 6 blots line up any more or fewer shims or higher torque its no alignment at 30 ft-lb should I use Loctite on the barrel nut thanks for the info.
if i use loctite on an ak 47 front sight that has some wobble, will the heat from shooting full automatic be too hot and loosen the glue? I used loctite 480 shock resistant but im not sure it will hold due to heat so i ordered some 272 which can stand temperatures up to 450 F / 230 C
Hi I have a 1/2 x36 to 5/8 x24 shoulderless thread adapter to attach a Epsilon 65 muzzle brake should I use Rockett to attach the thread adapter?
I think if you're going to apply thread locker to the gas block, it's smart to only remove and reset one screw at a time.

Would you use 222 or 243 on a thread protector from a 10mm threaded barrel?
There is also thread lock tape and stick kind of like chapstick density also.
Great info. Just a bit of caution, application technique for blind hole vs open hole application of thread locking compound is different. When applying to a blind hole, threadlocker should be applied to the threaded hole and not the screw or bolt. This is to overcome the issue of captured air forcing the threadlocker out when tightening.
With the gel I don’t have that issue really, it stays in place really well even in blind holes.

Depending on how large in diameter the screws are either medium or high depending on how fragile and near meltable parts they are.

Great info! Is there any reason not to use Rockset instead of high heat threadlocker such as red Loctite on gas block screws?
I use red high heat thread locker on gas block screws. With heat they are easily removed versus rockset which might be too aggressive for small screws like that. -Dave
What thread locker would you use to secure a grip screw bushing to the frame on a 1911? I have one stubborn bushing that keeps coming loose and I have tried blue and red Loctite and it still comes loose. I am trying to avoid having to re-tap the frame and putting an over size bushing in there if I can.
Make sure everything is really degreased. Often times when thread locker isn’t working it’s because there was some oil present acting as a release agent. Blue should work when proprely degreased and torqued. Trying switching brands or tubes as you could have a bad tube if it old or unsettled.

how much threadlocker we'll apply per bolt size?
What would be recommended for the front sight screw of a Glock with its small screw, extreme heat sitting right above the barrel and sits on the polymer frame? I've heard Loctite 620? Also would Loctite 243 0r 262 be better for the back sight screw? Thank you...
Use either 222 or 243. With 243 have to be careful removing as cheaper tools will strip the head
I have a carbine rifle. It’s the optics ready option. I wanted to put a longer handguard on it to mount accessories on, plus free float the barrel. Nothing on the original gas block was staked, or pinned, only two torx screws at the base. It was a clamp on style. I bought a YHM low pro gas block that is the same type of installation. I didn’t use any thread locker on it, some say the high temperature locker will give it up anyway. Wether that is true, that’s my first question. Plus was worried about stripping out the head with the tool if I needed to remove it. Are the clamp on style fine to use? Do I need to get a kit to pin it in place with a tapered pin too? Or will high temperature locker be just fine? This is my first alteration I’ve done so far. Your input would be appreciated! Thanks!
A quality clamp on is ok too. Generally the clamp style aren’t pinned. Removing is easy as shown in the video and I’ve found the bond still holds on well used rifles.
I was thinking of using green 290 on my ar build , for the scope mounts and the mloc guard, Ur think I’ll get th purple stuff now. I read so many different things, everyone uses and say different ones

Hey great video, but I've been searching around trying to find out if people are using loctite on Mlok attachment screws?
A lot of MLOK screws I’ve seen come with some installed. When they don’t I’ve added some medium/blue like the gel or 242/243 for added security.

Hi Dave, would you use any thread locker on a clamp-on style gas block? I'm wondering if the constant spring tension of the clamp would have a natural ability to resist loosening. If anyone else has some experience with this, please jump in.
I still would personally. A gas block is a critical component and I’ll take extra security.
There is a new Permatex High Strength Removable Orange Threadlocker Gel is a hybrid formula that combines the strength of Red Threadlocker with the removability of Blue Threadlocker. Would you recommend using this on gas block set screw? Will it hold up? Or should I use red permatex?
Wouldn't use it on a gas block screw, I'd still use red as with heat it is easily removed. I did pick some up and I am testing it on some muzzle devices and other stuff. Appears to be good so far.
Best thing for securing forward grip, light and a qd sling attachment for mlok? Ive tried blue thread locker but every time i leave the range or shortly after 50 rounds or so everything i have up front on a handguard its completely loose. Plz help i need an alternative. I know for a fact its not the heat issue but shock of recoil on a 11.5 inch barrel that loosens all my attachments.
That’s wild man. I mainly use mlok and I do not add any threadlocker to my mlok screws. Some have threadlocker pre-applied from the factory, but I’ve never added and never had anything vibrate loose. Try looking into the hand guard through the mlok slots and make sure the post on the end of the screws are perpendicular to the slots, then tighten it snug and it shouldn’t move. Hope that helps

Red as it’s more easily removable but still holds well. Rockset can be very difficult to remove and then damaging the screws is easier

Depends on how bad it is but you might be able to use a retaining compound like 609
Would you not recommend using Rockset with a muzzle device? I notice a lot of compensators come with it now.
I use rocksett on all of my muzzle devices that mount a suppressor. Other devices it likely isn’t needed with proper torque.

Dave, Loctite says that it gas a 24 month shelf life unopened and 12 months once opened. What happens if you use it beyond "shelf life"? Thanks.
I’ve had the older stuff that didn’t cure to full hardness. Just basically became gummy. I try to buy small bottles and replace more often

I have been using these metal cans of Japanese thread locker that came from Suzuki in Japan. Do you know how to read Kanji? I don't but I love the stuff. The stuff is green, and it is kinda thick. I had worn pins that liked to walk out of handguns, so I put some of that gel on, and dry it with help from a heatgun, then drive the pins back in, and problem solved! I had some sleeve retainer on a cracked steering block on a truck, to seal the power steering fluid fittings. It formed it's own threads! IT NEVER LEAKED EITHER, and I could wrench it loose with a bigass cheater bar. That bearing compound was used for helicopter rotor bearings, so a bottle of it was north of $400, but a new steering block was north of $14,000. You get a free one with a whole truck, but the rest of the truck is rendered useless.

For the Red, they only have high strength in gel, the high temp is the liquid formula. Same thing on Amazon.

Happy to help, the red gel is high strength/temp range to 300 degrees. Only use where needed obviously otherwise the blue gel works great. Yup 27010 is the red in video

Why do I see so many reputable Companies using Red 271 Locktite on the gas block screws but not Rocksett? You would think Rocksett would be the better choice based on it's temp range. Am I missing something?
Red is far easier to remove than rocksett.
@@GunsandTactics Agreed but it would also be prone to loosening when the gas block heats up, correct?
@@ChrisSalazar1983 gas block doesn’t get that hot. 271 or 263 hasn’t been an issue in the 100s of guns I’ve assembled over the years

I have come to like vg-3 how about an update on that ?
Used it for a while but back to what’s in this video. VC3 hasn’t held torque for me as well and because it’s thicker and has the cure I see a lot of it thread off during installation. It’s better than nothing but for most things I prefer the blue gel permatex. I wish they made a gel lower strength but maybe someday.
Leak-Lock works also, if you pre-condition all your screws with it first.

threadlocker is the sign of a high quality product, unless it's loctite red.

you're missing loctite 246. This is what should be used on your gas blocks. Don't use red. No need to.
What about Prematex #24206 for securing a red dot to a mos plate? I have been looking for information before I go and secure the optic. I would very much like to avoid any future headaches.
