Brilliant video. I appreciate the instruction. Now my S3 is running perfectly!
I run two main seals on the back of the transfer box because I had the shoulder machined and it makes a huge difference.
Land Rover series, this example was assambled in Costa Rica, back in the days, you can see the plate next to the license plate
Or use a half inch open ended spanner on its side for the brass bungs. Transfer case, axles fuel tank
I threw my transmission drum brake in the bin. Fitted an X-Eng disc brake instead - wow what a difference! Saves a lot of weight too.
It's worth remembering that the transmission is balanced in the factory using the drum
Orgullo de ser Costarricenses, si ven al principio, la placa trasera dice Autoemsambladora, Costa Rica!
What a surprise! A Land Rover assambled in Costa Rica! With parts of England!
Ha ha ha....I used to use a very specialised tool on my W reg Landrover Series 3 LWB, it wasn't a bad engine, in good nick and had always been serviced well, but diesel of that era 'smoked'......So the day before the MOT I used to drain the tank and refill with 'greenhouse heater fuel' Yes, you could buy it from any DIY outlet.....came in plastic 4 litre cans....looked just like Vodka, but tasted nothing like it. Pop round to the MOT place.......smoke test takes place and of course, very little smoke, easy pass for it's age. The MOT guy once said to me....none of my business really, but that isn't running on Diesel....you are right it isn't I said and winked....... out of the MOT place and pop in 20 Litres of diesel from a jerry can.
Great video but I wish you had spent a little longer and showed more on adjusting the fuel injector pump timing. I think I have that problem with my Series 3 as it blows plenty of smoke but engine oil level is relatively stable.
Costa Rica land Rover 🎉🎉
I see it again and again, it's fun
The Timing chains wear considerably on these engines and you can only advance the pump timing so much,
The handbrake is actually a transmission brake. It’s where it is so when you’ve selected 4wd you can stop all four wheels. The other drums on the wheels will of course be full of watery mud. And won’t work at all.....
Correct!
No no no, its where it is so that your car will "walk" down hill when it gets rocked by strong winds.
Magica ❤
Just remove the lower part of the manifold which is the exhaust part, and get rid of the pipe that goes to the back of the vehicle, then let the engine fumes circulate freely in the engine compartment. This is a well tried remedy used over many years in workshops around the world.
Por favor tener la opción de traducción gracias.
Edd y Ant los Mejores del mundo. Gracias Ant. Te saludos desde Venezuela aquí junto con Edd son muy querido y por supuesto Mike también
So, no comment about the injectors then.
The root of the problem is a worn timing chain, this also affects the valve timing....
Hey, that car has been ensambed in Costa Rica! Too bad has been sended to te US.
Hi, Is there anyway to make a 84 Land Rover Series 3 outside. I don't mind how loud it is inside the truck, but I think my neighbors are going to kill me. I love it, but it's so loud! Any suggestions besides moving? Thank you!
Could have used an open ended spanner on the gearbox sump plug end in on its side and saved making a tool😳😆
Im working on series land rovers quite often, a tool really makes life easier. Some owners just use spanners, and some tighten nuts with chisels, others use tools
Then that wouldn’t give Mr Anstead the chance to show off and make a tool to prove how fantastic he is, so he can blow his own trumpet.
Not sure that seal is cheaper than a tube of silicone sealant.
@iangascoigne8231 I'd like to blow my own trumpet but alas my back isn't what it used to be 😮
Good job
You can just use two spanners locked together to open the transfer oil drain
The best way to stop smoke for coming out, it the covert it to an electric vehicle!!😊😊
hi great video.i used to use a pump tool to set the pump timing on the series 3 diesel./regarding the handbrake oil leak, its common for the oil to leak from the main gearbox in to the transfer box which in turn puts pressure on the rear output shaft seal which will then leak causing the problem you have, there is a large seal on the back of the main g/box which can only be removed by doing a stripdown, good luck, bad design by l/rover
Ese Land Rover fue hecho en mi país Costa Rica por ensambladora automotriz bajo licencia de Land Rover England. that Land Rover was made in my country by a car assembler under license from Land Rover England
Yo me asombré de ver también donde decía que lo ensamblaron en mi País, orgullo de ser Costarricenses!!!
No smoke.. no poke
When adjusting the injector pump timing I noticed in the video that the fuel lines did not appear to be loosened - he didn't say anything about loosening the fuel lines before turning the pump. I tried to adjust the pump on my 83 LR and could not turn the pump with the fuel lines attached. How did he do that in the video or am I missing something? -
Just a crap video. He didn't mention injectors either as a source of smoke. If the timing was set correctly before there was any smoke then it won't have changed. The injectors slowly degrade with use and need checking/cleaning with additive.
Turn the engine off?
This was the main complaint of Christina of Flip OR Flop....this Brit was more flop than flip and he used to apply KY like he was giving a Land Rover an oil and grease.
Good information
Not at all, the problem was, and is wear in the timing chain, which gives wrong valve, and injector pump timing. Numpty Antstead has covered up the problem, by altering the injection point, but the engine will not be producing all of its 67 horsepower, as the valve timing is way out. Typical Wheeler Dealer, looks so easy bollocks
@@garypoulton7311 I see, thanks for sharing your knowledge
@@garypoulton7311 I got one of these (ear;y 80s 2.25) with same problem. Is it hard to change the timing chain?might have to get in there.
AND İŞÇILIĞI COK BEGENIYORUM SEVEREK IZLIYORUZ
by replacing that seal you stopped the land rover self rust corrosion prevention system from operating
I think all Car,s and Truck,s should have a Trans Brake,
My v8 3,9 is smoking black omission
These are the easiest vehicles to work on I think, them and the VW beetle
And Renault 4l
Both horrible vehicles,
Dont forget mercedes w124 and w201
"strange key", a large flat head screw driver would have worked just fine
Patrol has same handbrake
He is pretty good, they all good in their own way.
This guy don't know nothing want to stop a exhaust from smoking just take a potato exhaust to be save yourself a ton of money You're good
‘Land Rover: How to stop exhaust smoke’ …. Don’t start the engine. Ever.
Come on guys..who's the best mechanic.....Anth,, Edd,,or Elvis?.....for me it's ant,but edd was equally as good.
They're all good this show is ruined and always has been been mike brewer
If Edd was equally as good how can it be Ant? Though it’s odd how a so called master mechanic couldn’t explain how an alternator works.
none of them are mechanics.
It’s a land rover ... they were designed to leak oil everywhere!
A land rover that doesn’t leak oil is empty!
The 2.25 litre Diesel engine...
It’s what true nightmares are made of !!
And land rover in their infinite wisdom wired all the glow plugs in series so if one goes out it’s all over
What a stupid idea
I removed the diesel from mine and replaced it with a 3 litre petrol
When it was a diesel I actually got overtaken on a hill by a split windshield Kombi VW bus
How utterly embarrassing
Ant’s got more chops
A landrover with an oil leak ? Never
