  • This is what I think is the most effective method of installing a transducer for a thru-hull install. I was tempted to just stick the transducer in a wad of duct seal for a quick and easy job, but decided not to after hearing of and reading about various problems with that method, especially with the larger transducers that are now more common.
    *UPDATE*
After noticing some abnormal readings on the screen when there was more chop on the water, I wondered if that particular area of the hull was occasionally coming out of the water when the water got rougher. I looked at some videos I took while my son was on the revo 16 and I was on another kayak, and sure enough that section was coming off of the water in the chop, especially while the kayak was in forward motion. Looking at some other Revo 16 videos on RUclips also shows the same thing with the same section occasionally exposed/out of the water. I have since then moved the Well about 12” back, right in front of the sail mast, and that section of the hull, when watching the videos, has shown to be in the water at all times so that should alleviate the problem.
The move was fairly easy. I just carefully pulled out the plastic container, which was in there pretty good, and re-trimmed, and removed all the Duct Seal which I collected in to a wad. Then I did the process over again.
