I get asked this a lot and its a big topic, and since ensuring consumer safety and a good shelf life is essential to product quality and consumers, I'm trying to think of how I provide snippets on such a big topic in a 15 minute youtube video (its an entire unit of study with us)!!! My concern is a youtube video is no replacement on full training of this topic because of safety and quality issues, and while I can touch on the topic it really doesn't replace proper training and testing. Please email us for pricing on just the Stability unit - you can study just this one unit with us: info@personalcarescience.com.au to learn it properly. I hope this helps.

The IKA blade is called a dissolver stirrer - this suits the Eurostar (Propeller stirrer machine) but the homogenising head only comes with the Ultra Turrax, which is why you need 2 if you want both. Please see this site for IKA blades: www.ika.com/en/Products-Lab-Eq/Overhead-Stirrers-Agitator-Blender-Lab-mixer-Accessories-cspacc-187/ To grind pigments when you make a foundation sample you need the homogenising head; or you could use phytic acid coated pigments to make them very water soluble, and then you only need the propeller stirrer. Reverse osmosis should be fine, as long as you boil the water as a first step, since, like any other water treatment equipment, its very susceptible to microbial contamination. One unconventional tip: Just use aqua iniectabilia like for example Fresenius Kabi AMPUWA and use transfer spikes to take the precise amount of water out that you need. If you do medium-sized batches, there are also screw-top 1L bottles. It sure isn't too cheap, but the cost is negligible compared to all other ingredients in a product.

Your water should be demineralised and sterilised - to prevent ions impacting your formulas or contamination. Hope this helps, happy formulating!
