My manufacturer doesn’t seem keen on this, they are just looking to do a big batch. They told me - 2kg batch would be too expensive.

Great video. Thank you so much for making such a valuable video. I am in the stage where I have my formula approved and I am so glad I found your channel.
The only question I have is, how do I bring up the topic to the manufacturer? Do I just tell them that we need to do a large lab batch sample made that is around (1-2kg)? Consequently, I will then have to ask the same for the remaining steps correct? Also during what steps are the stability testing, the package functionality testing, the Microbiol testing, and the safety testing should be done?
    Thank you in advance.

You should have a contract manufacturing agreement in place which specifies all of these items, and also ensures they are completing their responsibilities as your manufacturer. Stability testing is not usually done unless you request it, and pay extra for it. Microbial testing is something they should be doing before releasing the batch, make sure they do this! They should be doing a large lab batch but will often omit a pilot batch if they are running ‘cheap’ - but of course if something goes wrong with the big batch they will then blame you and walk away form responsibility! If you don’t have a manufacturing agreement, BEWARE. Go to another manufacturer where they do outline these requirements, even if you are paying a little more, it is certainty over ensuring these steps are covered. I’ve seen too many small brands come unstuck and not realise they are left holding the baby if something goes wrong (they often wrongly assume that the manufacturer will accept responsibility for these items), when it is the brand putting the product onto the market that is responsible for all of these things. I would highly recommend you learn about these things in our Build your Brand workshop series (first lecture is free, and it helps you discover what you don’t know before you take that next step): personalcarescience.com.au/BrandManagement/CosmeticBrandBusinessWorkshops-482/ and if you want full guidance, we also have our full Diploma of Cosmetic Brand Management which covers all of these aspects: personalcarescience.com.au/BrandManagement/DiplomaofCosmeticBrandManagement-471/ If you want to conduct your own microbial and stability testing, we also have our Certificate in Quality and Stability: personalcarescience.com.au/CosmeticScience/CertificateinCosmeticQualityandStability-1983/ I hope this helps!

Hi, I’m interested in starting my own line of hair perfume but I’m quite lost with my formulation. I want to use essential oils as my source of fragrance but there isn’t a lot of information available concerning water based products and the best preservatives for them. Is there another base I can use that works with essential oils and doesn’t damage hair at all? If yes which preservative works best with this? Thank you so much in advance for answering

We would love to help with your answer, but find that most of the time, a better understanding of the solution is required to understand the advice, and comments made, so we prefer to teach things properly instead.
For professional formulation solutions, we recommend the Study Only option of our Advanced Certificates. Our study only option enables you to access all study materials as if you are studying with us: text, lectures, activities, checklist and even assessment questions - at 50% the regular course fees.. but please note with this option you don’t need to complete assessments/can’t get the qualification and it does not come with trainer support.

I've always wondered how some indie or luxury brands get to market their products as "hand-blended" or "artisanal" yet ship thousands of bottles of their product internationally. they even show their small team mixing away in a small home cottage surrounded by an English garden. lol.

What if I have investors and I'd much rather manufacture my products in my own factory? Is that better or is it risky?

    • @theinstituteofpersonalcare6401

It depends on who else is working with you, and how you will then have time to succeed and show your investors a suitable return if there is no one dedicated to sales and distribution. Or will they be taking care of that step? It is a full time job to manage marketing, sales and distribution as well as formulation, let alone manufacture and quality control!!!
