I need to change mine too. Thanks for this. On a separate subject, if you have a G90 and X6100, make sure you label the mics. The G90 mic is much "hotter" and using it in the X6100 will cause severe over modulation. Cheers ZL1LC
Just dove into the WW CW contest on 20m with a dipole and 100w amp. Worked stations in EU and Carib, Receiver did well and TX was good. I used a Begali paddle that almost cost as much as the radio. The pan display was a big help. I heard the CR3 nicely on a whip with ground radials. In playing with it for a couple of weeks. I think it will need a carrying case or padded bag to keep down the wear and tear.
@@SamtheoriginalClassic I usually attend the superior hamfest, I'll be the guy that looks like me, wearing my KM9G hat and probably a Temporarily Offline shirt under my winter bundle. 😀
Our eyes don't perceive colors as equally bright. Red, green and blue are weighted as 21%, 72% and 7% respectively. After display gamma of 2.4, red is 0.21^2.4 = 0.0236 and blue is 0.07^2.4 = 0.0017 for a contrast ratio of 14.0. But blue-on-white is a contrast ratio of 1.00/.0017 = 588. 588 is much bigger than 14.
Can this be done without the use of a raspberry-pi and over say the WiFi connection? Or maybe a windows PC plugged into the DEV port? Thanks for any and all help!
Thank Todd we have some coders here hack this quirky radio. I guess if Xiegu does change the password, it may be possible to work around it. If they know what's good for them, they will leave it at 123. The radio being hackable- helps them sell more radios. The lack of shielding between boards internally will still plague us with ghost signals etc. Oh well.
Since the radio will boot from SD card, we can interrupt the boot cycle and insert our own code/reset the password that way. I'm fairly certain we are safe. Check out TOADs, we now have a working linux boot image available!
Hi great info, red is kind of annoying, white looks good, change back ground colors would be great, black on white back ground could be better in some instances, hopefully they might do a firmware change to whatever colors you want? Thanks
@@temporarilyoffline It worked, but apparently the white text ui file was compiled from 1.1.3 because it shows up that way in System, so it doesn't have the other 1.1.4 features, like the ability to turn off the peak hold meter feature and what not.
That would be awesome. I have managed to alter the hex code to change the red to white for volume and power (Kenny Wyss) but changing the power limit etc was beyond me. thanks and cheers.
fyi... it's not old man eyes. red and blue are at far ends of visible spectrum. the red/blue combo will give you a headache trying to focus. doubt me?..... look into GUI dev standards. 73s
Your video will be easier to follow if you would change your screen mode to black type over white or grey background, with much larger fonts. Just a thought. Jon, EA2SN / AE2SN

Oh really, I have the 90, 5105 and now the 6100 and all mine are the same
Looks much better, nice work Chuck and thanks Steve for doing these X6100 videos.

@6:02 "You can see it is white on red." Just giving you some loving attention. Love your updates.
Thanks Sam!
@@temporarilyoffline I just looked you up. I moved to NY from Superior, WI. We were practically neighbors!

588 is much bigger than 14.
Sometimes Red on Blue even hurts a little.

Yes, it can. All you need is the ability to connect a serial terminal.

A GREAT TNX for that!!! The red color was not readable in the sun, no chance!
I have to make a video on how to do the hex edits. Stay tuned.
@@temporarilyoffline It would be also cool, if the red color would be white within the system menu etc.

Is there an hack that open 2 mt and 70 cm band?
Not currently. The hardware doesn't do it, but maybe a transverter?
Can I use WinSCP to overwrite this file and get the white text?
I don't see why not. If it doesn't work, you can re-flash the firmware to fix it.

@@SheepdogPreparedness that makes sense, I don't know how to do the hex edits and Chuck has been busy

Great for colorblindness!
Definitely! This means that all colors are changeable
That looks 1K times better!
But not 4k
I saw your video, you were peeking at its boot dmesg. Are you hacking it firmware??
Yes, I have a few videos about it on the channel
I wish we had a version of this for the newest firmware. I have old man eyes as well.
I don't know if this still applies, but there is a newer method here: ruclips.net/video/FalVifEduIM/видео.html

Shh! It's a secret 😉
Wait, what.... a hack to get 10w out of the internal battery? Or did I hear that wrong?
You heard correct. Link in the description - use at your own risk of course.
