Crash damage is one thing, but simple fact is with the points Alex and Franco scored, they earned the team an extra 9mil or so by finishing ahead of Sauber. Alex also pretty much earned them an extra 20 to 30mil in 2023 by essentially taking 7th place in the constructors on his own. Crashes and costs are never good, but you have to weigh that against how much they can bring the team when they do score points. And lets be honest, high costs do not mean lots of crashes. You can cost the team more in one crash than several depending on the severity of the crash and what is damaged. Potentially one driver could crash out every race and still cost the team less in damages than one crash by the other driver, but the driver who only crashed once can bring in more money through manufacturer prize money. Carlos is a prime example of this. He did not have that many crashes but still ranks high in the damage costs, but brought in significant money by helping secure 2nd in the manufacturers championship. Sargeant cost the team shit loads and earned them nothing.

I don't get this "Franco drives for Williams, he should know not to crash" argument. This is the responsibility of Vowles for bringing a rookie into a team with financial and infrastructural difficulties. Rookies should be given a free pass on crashing as long as it's not happening practically every race, and most importantly, if the rookie is showing strong pace and potential, and that's definitely something that Franco showed.

It's funny that Williams' strategy is never at fault. Brazil. Alex was P2 in Q3 in Brazil and so many cars were going off and Franco's car was already damaged. In the race full wets were needed but nope "trust us" Vegas Q2 very poorly timed push lap into dirty. Franco asked to abort because he had no chance after the first sector. Instead close the lap and push. Well that's what he did. Followed team radio even when it was stupid. 3 big stupid avoidable crashes with silly strategy for a team that had a minimum of reserve parts.
No mention about how much of a dog that car was for all of the drivers? Maybe look into how difficult it was to be driven and then look at the overall picture.
Wait a minute, Franco out-damaged Logan? What a massive skill issue then. The kid does just over 50% of the races Logan did and does 1.5x the amount of damage with zero crashes being on anyone else. At least Logan was taken out by KMag in Miami meaning not all the damage was his fault. Also here's your reminder Franco's points meant nothing in the championship. So was it worth it replacing Logan? Zero gains in the Constructor's and 4.4 million in damage says no. I revoke my previous statements defending Williams when they said replacing Logan was the right choice.

@@marcpaola1371 There's a reason Franco wasn't kept besides doubling the damage you've listed. He wasn't able to take the car above where it should have been. Alex has done that for three years. It's not British bias, it's a rookie who only put the car where it should have been compared to a driver who can put the car where it shouldn't be. Albon is not overrated, Franco is.
@JollyGreen28 that's a load of crap. Colopinto was a rookie, hadn't had any testing at all with the car, came in cold and wasn't far off Albon and at times, bettered him in only a 3rd of a season compared to a driver who has been in f1 for nearly a decade, so no Colopinto isn't overatted, will only get better to. Albon on the other hand bangs cars up, has a larger repair bill than any other williams driver but all is ok. He has not at any stage out performed the car.
@@marcpaola1371 What are you talking about? Franco had indeed had time in an F1 car before taking Logan's place. Franco's gaps were actually pretty similar to Logan's time gap to Albon, people just don't talk about it. What driver are you talking about that Albon has been paired with that was in F1 for nearly a decade? Max wasn't, Sargeant wasn't, Kyvat wasn't, and neither was Latifi. You can't possibly mean Sainz who hasn't been at Williams and raced Albon yet. You literally don't know what you are talking about. Albon has only been in F1 since 2019 himself, with a year out. You're right that Albon bangs up cars, he does need to clean his act up, we agree there. Now, Franco exclusively put the car where it should have been or worse. His only points scores were exactly where the car should have been, on the fringe of points. You're an absolute muppet if you think Albon hasn't outperformed the cars he's been given at Williams. What a joke.

@andrewstorm8240 as did Colopinto in his 1st 3rd of an f1 season. Albon has been in f1 for a long time now, and the team would have even more money if he didn't crash. He is not scoring enough points to justify all the damage he does but that gets glossed over. Only Colopinto gets singled out. Fact is Albon had a hard time with Colopinto, and has been exposed. He is on a hiding to nothing next year so we will see plenty more damage from him trying to keep up with Carlos.
I feel like people have rose-tinted glasses on when talking about Franco since he scored points in his debut. The fact is that Franco is just as crash-happy as Logan was.
Points matter more for the team rather than cost of crashes. More points = better results = more money at the end of the championship. Especially for Williams given that they should be higher on the championship if Logan pulled his weight.
@@sora3 I 100% agree that points matter. But prior to Brazil Alpine had 16 points, and Williams ended the season with 17. In Brazil, Alpine scored 33 points against retirement and DNS from Williams. If you crash out then you can't score points. Sure this year Williams ended 29 points behind Racing Bulls so Franco's crashes didn't lose them any position. These were published by the fia at the end of the 2024 season. Albon is actually 2nd on the list for the most damage last year. Its a joke he is rated so highly. Struggled a lot when Franko joined. Williams should have kept Colopinto and got rid of Albon as he matched Alex straight away and will only get better, Albon is overatted but he speaks with a british accent so is loved by the press.
It's funny that Williams' strategy is never at fault. Brazil. Alex was P2 in Q3 in Brazil and so many cars were going off and Franco's car was already damaged. In the race full wets were needed but nope "trust us"
Vegas Q2 very poorly timed push lap into dirty.
Albon the most overrated driver on the grid, I think Sainz is gonna expose him
I second that, he's just here by dominating mediocre drivers after being bench pressed by max in RB
Am i going insane, or did youtube just put a 7 minute video in my SHORTS feed ??? Since when is this a thing ?
With sainz that number should drastically decrease
Yet it was sainz who caused Albon's Canada damage. Still true though
Yes that Sainz that crashed out on Perez in Baku
yes sainz that crashed in brazil
yes sainz that punted off piastri in miami and cried about wheel to wheel racing
Lewis was only 200k 😂
Wait a minute, Franco out-damaged Logan? What a massive skill issue then. The kid does just over 50% of the races Logan did and does 1.5x the amount of damage with zero crashes being on anyone else. At least Logan was taken out by KMag in Miami meaning not all the damage was his fault.
Also here's your reminder Franco's points meant nothing in the championship. So was it worth it replacing Logan? Zero gains in the Constructor's and 4.4 million in damage says no. I revoke my previous statements defending Williams when they said replacing Logan was the right choice.
Alex Albon:$4.6 million in damage
Logan Sargent: $3.0 million
Franko colipinto:$1.7 million.

@JollyGreen28 yep and that shows what type of person you are when you have to personally attack a person who has a different opinion to you. So no I'm not a Muppet, just an long longtime f1 fan who clearly has a different non rose tinted view to what you have. Have a nice day, enjoy life.
Russell was 3 million
Hope Franco doesn't become Bango On fire like a Pinto.

And yet they say Sargent was worse
both crashed a lot one performed better
I mean, how many point did he score for that amount of crashed?
He is, Colapinto has awesome pace, it's not world news to see him crash in new terrains, especially in wet at Brazil
He was 🤣
Sargeant was abysmal, come on now. The fact that Colapinto managed to score points in his second race with no experience or preparation says a lot about how bad he was.
Franco is expensive and the same with Mick S

@ but Alex got the points for the team
@andrewstorm8240 as did Colopinto in his 1st 3rd of an f1 season. Albon has been in f1 for a long time now, and the team would have even more money if he didn't crash. He is not scoring enough points to justify all the damage he does but that gets glossed over. Only Colopinto gets singled out. Fact is Albon had a hard time with Colopinto, and has been exposed. He is on a hiding to nothing next year so we will see plenty more damage from him trying to keep up with Carlos.
@ Colopinto promising but kept crashing
@@andrewstorm8240 and so did Albon all year!

It costs to suck I guess
I feel like people have rose-tinted glasses on when talking about Franco since he scored points in his debut. The fact is that Franco is just as crash-happy as Logan was.
Yeah but he atleast got points and teams were/are interested in him, couldn't say the same for logan
But let's be honest, Williams left a lot on the table in Brazil which was chaotic. What if next time Williams is in Haas' position and loses the 6th position by 7 points.
