I am a fellow rc guy and I think if you're gonna invest in buying a hobby grade rc car, you should get an off-road one. Sure you're not gonna get nearly as many breakages on the drift cars as you would on a buggy for example, but drifting in dirt, kicking up rooster tails, and jumping is way more fun in my opinion. Plus you guys could film videos of it and post them up :)
oohh my gawd i just ordered a brand new rc chassis (GRT TA05) 2 days ago totaly into rc drifting now and then i see you guy posting this. totaly made my day kudos :D
I don't know which part was more difficult, the controlling of the vehicles, or the filming. Loved everything about it, especially the music that went so well with this.
I miss this hobby very much. For those that really want to know what makes these cars unique and how they can do this, here are some key features I'd recommend. These options are open ended, I'm NO authority, just giving my opinion. (1) AWD (RWD is possible with skill.) (2) Electric Motors (I prefer brushed for price and grunt torque, but a tuned-down Brushless setup can be just as good if not better, but you do have to tune it, something along the lines of Castle Creations electronics.) (3) Plastic Tires (for obvious reasons.) (4) One-way Front Differential (Allows the front axle drive to coast when you let off the power and thus makes it more controllable.) (5) Belt-Driven (Shaft Drive, while more robust creates an unwanted Gyroscopic effect under acceleration that shifts the vehicles inertia in the direction of shaft rotation. This is why you see some high powered vehicles on drag strips with conventional transversally mounted engines swaying from side to side during revving. Same basic principle. (6) Ballast Weight placed fore over front axle (Particularly important to achieve the Mass required to pivot the car in the controlled manner seen here especially with vehicles where the motor or other heavy items are placed further in the rear i.e. HPI Sprint 2) (7) Carpet surface (As seen in video. You can make due with pavement but the smoother it is the more desirable the effect will be.) (8) Extreme caster angles (to get the most angle out of your turns.) (9) Proper width spacing (changing the width of your wheels to make it sit at a wider stance can change the flick-ability of your vehicle, so playing around with spacers is key.) I won't plug in brand names too much, but in the U.S. the HPI Sprint 2's are popular due to availability in parts, but they require some serious modifications to keep up with the ones seen here. Sprint 2's eat through belts, and don't have the ideal caster. Sprint's 2's are basically touring cars that HPI slapped plastic wheels on and said "oh it drifts now." They work better for pavement and faster speeds when drifting. This is why most "American" RC Drift videos tend to show the vehicles drifting at higher speeds than the tight, technical stuff seen here. Pretty interesting when you think about that. For more technical drifting seen here popular models come from MST, Sakura, Yokomo, and other's I forget now. When you get into the serious brands though (and more carbon fiber bits are present,) they'd get trashed if they are taken on pavement. I spent some serious time, money, and custom modding on my last Sprint 2 to get it to do what theses cars did. I may have had one of the best Sprint 2's in the world for the custom CNC fabrications I had done to it until some asshat, tweaker stole it from my home (but left the transmitter.) Too much work went into for me to want to start all over. Easily over a grand invested in the chassis alone, will get back to it one day. :) Happy drifting everyone. Respect. Love Kuma's films, glad to see them shed light on this hobby. It's harder than it looks. I actually came here to look up videos of juggling and Kendama's and saw this, and got nostalgic. :')
Asterngeisha I would recommend awd and plastic tires for drifting and look on amazon they have some good ones but if their 1-25$ don't get it it's a rip off and also read others revews.
@@user-rd8ln1jz8p More than anything get a one-way front differential, that alone will make the biggest difference of anything you can do. Gear/tune the motor for most torque (brushed is better) and become a ninja at changing those belts because without modification you will absolutely eat through them every other month, particularly the rear one. If you can fabricate... drill a hole into the chassis and custom make a belt tensioner and mount it as it keeps the belt from rubbing on the motor. The heat and physical contact eat those belts. There is no manual on how to do that, you'll have to custom make one from scratch but it's worth it. You'll need power tools and work space, and to make the pulley you can use random hobby parts like metal brackets and bearings. Good luck and happy drifting
Watched this a few months after this was uploaded 9 years ago, when I just 14 years old. I remember thinking how cool it'd be to own one of these and bring it to school. Those days are gone now, but still glad to see my childhood excitement for RC scale drift cars are still there haha.
***** Sakura D3 is the Cheapest option but honestly depends what parts you can get your hands on the easiest as most of the stuff comes from HK or JP. If your in Southern California I would pick up a Yokomo dib v2 or DPR. If on a budget get the DIB RS or Drift Package. They are made very well and worth the price as you have not belt tensioning issues and can start with a smaller CS setup like 1.3 / 1.5 / 2.0. The Sakura d3 CS is at 2.14 and a little aggressive to run. I have the D3 and the belt tensioning issues are slightly annoying.
This is one of the most well-put-together rc drift videos I've seen. Very well done with the matching action and sequencing, not to mention the shots! Kudos, kudos, kudos. AWESOME video.
This is taking a child toy radio control to another level. They do look awsome. The loose of traction how is this done?My radio control car didn't do this. Is it expecive?
How it works is that there really light and have hard plastic wheels to help drift/skid and it doesn't matter if it's carpet but carpet doesn't ruin the wheels that's why people do it on carpet and yes they are quite expensive they range around 100-300$ but it's worth it there so much fun!!!! The best part is you can buy new body kits for your car and customize the way u want
Seriously great cinematography! I really admire your videos! These drift cars reminds me of a old PS1 game I used to play called Rage Racers. Usually in these car racing games, you can toggle view from aerial, interior or looking behind from a mirror perspective. It would have been cool to attach a GoPro to a car to get that interior point of view. Awesome job guys!
I really enjoyed watching the RC cars drift around the track I have one of those and I know we're as close as good as that but getting better I just subscribed to your Channel
Japan has this way of making such a small hobby a full-filling lifestyle.
+BlakcNinja So true
Germany is obsesed with rc stuff as well
where to get these cars
@@jemoeder5354 I agree 100%. Greetings from Germany: ruclips.net/video/xXdx6Mo77Fs/видео.html
*fulfilling
So many cars drifting perfectly in harmony with no crush. Damn Japan 😄
i think they crash but they just crop it out
This is simply the best remote control drift video on the planet.
The cinematography is insane with cutting edge driving and master editing.
Well done
And remember to check out the behind the scenes video for a lot of extra shots!

I really do enjoy this channel
😁
Kuma Films what size are these rc cars I'm thinking of buying one but I don't want it to be tiny when I buy it
Deacon Hidalgo the scale is 1/10
Also this cars is very expensive. Good model costs about 500$
May I suggest using a fog machine on the lowest sitting to cover the track, it could work beautifully
That is an excellent idea thanks! That would add tons of atmosphere. We'll try to hunt down a fog machine for the next one we do hahaha.
That's the reason I love Japan . Respect from Cyprus!!
Japan has always have surprises in them

I've heard just saying if your in Southern California Yokomo parts are 10x easier to get. You don't have to wait 1-2 months for parts to come in.
that's freaking amazing.. always seen Nissan GTR, 370Zs,silvia and Mitsubushis doing amazing on drift tracks

Really cool
This is taking a child toy radio control to another level. They do look awsome.
The loose of traction how is this done?My radio control car didn't do this.
Is it expecive?
the traction may be dependent on the wheels and weight of the car.
I think they might be using hard plastic wheel as well as the carpeting to achieve maximum skids at least I think so
