    It's a hard decision between those two. Both are flagship workstations. The best of the best for each manufacturer. Each has there own personality sound wise. Their operating systems are different layouts but the learning curve is not too steep. The Kronos has a 16 track 24 bit audio recorder where the Motif has a single stereo audio track. I believe that either way you choose, there would be no disappointment. If you can, demo both side by side, and you decide. Enjoy and Good Luck!

    Great videography there. The guys talking about what he is selecting and instead of showing the controls he's using they show the digital screen!!!! I only say this as an owner of this brilliant piece of kit who is looking for instruction on how to get the best out of it. Other than that, damn, I wished I had this man's talent!!!

    A performance is made up of up to 4 sounds or parts. I would start out by initializing a performance or choosing one that is close to what you have in mind. Then just select the F2 button (Voice) and you'll see all 4 parts that can be turned on or off, select voice, and set the key range for each part. (Layers, Splits, or Overlaps). The mixer faders are active to adjust levels of each part. Obviously, there is more that you can do but that should get you started. - Tony

    The MOX keyboards are the same as far as the sequencer in track mode or pattern mode. The trick is when you have a pattern playing, turn off the pattern select (to the right) by hitting the track select button next to it. Then select the next available part (5 or above)(the first 4 are used for the pattern).
    Use the category search to select the sound you want to play live and GO!
    Good Luck!

    If you like the Motif XF and can't afford it you may want to look at the MOX series. It's built on the Motif Series sounds and has a lot of the same features minus some bells and whistles. Any questions call or email us. Thanks!

  • @NStuffMusic

    In a nutshell, the Motif is a complete workstation designed for you to create the music from scratch using on board arpeggiators, patterns and song recorders. Where as, the Tyros is a full fledged accompaniment arranger style keyboard with many preset styles and patterns all ready to go right out of the box. Both sound great so you can't wrong with either. I guess it depends on whether you would be satisfied with auto accompaniment or the flexibility of doing your own. Thanks. -Tony

    Awesome demonstration there Phil. But I have to correct you there slightly. If you don't know what you're going to do on the XF when you go into Record mode, and you want it to loop, that's not Song mode, that's pattern mode, from what I've read. If you know exactly what you're going to do, then that's Song mode

    We sell the Roland Jupiter 80 for $2999.00 which is the same price as the Motif XF8, but that's where the similarity ends. It's a little strange comparing these 2 boards, It's sort of like apples and oranges. Both are great keyboards, but one is a performance style synth and the other goes beyond that and is a complete workstation. Give me a call or email if you have any other questions. Thanks.

    I know this is old:
    People are comparing the Motif against the Korg Kronos.
    Well, I have BOTH, the Korg Kronos 2, and the Motif XF7.
    WORKFLOW: the Motif is hands down way easier to get your ideas into full production.
    I got so angry with the stupid many pages you have to scroll through on my Kronos 2, man I'm thinking about selling it, seriously.
    Just to record a track is sort of tricky, and the writing on the screen in that track view is very small for those of us that have poor eyesight.
    Workflow wise, the Motif is way easier imho.
    Sound wise, that's a PERSONAL thing, and here's mine:
    Motif wins oh ALL GUITAR sounds, on ALL DRUM SOUNDS, and on MOST PIANO/RHODES SOUNDS.
    On ALL BRASS SOUNDS.
    Don't get me wrong, the Kronos synth sounds are wicked.
    The function of the Karma is fun, and if used right, can add to your playing.
    The trouble with the Krog Kronos, is in it's functions, getting things done in a more timely fashion, without having to be a brain doctor lol.
    3100 dls for a paper weight, I'll sell it for 2000 less than a year old.

    • @lemonslice2233
      @lemonslice2233 8 лет назад +1

      What I don't like about the Kronos is that it sounds like a computer with a bunch of different VSTs. It doesn't sound homogenous.. The bloody Krome sounds better to my ears, just the overall feeling I get. Also has a much better thought out interface; it's really too bad it isn't built more professionally (for a higher price of course). M3 is though (except the screen is worse), and the thing's still a good option IMO.
      And the Motifs are Motifs, beautiful species of Yamaha they are.

    • @jerry77028
      @jerry77028 8 лет назад

      +LemonSlice My Kronos 2 is solid, it's the Ui that's giving me trouble.
      I think I can only using it as an instrument, instead of a workstation, and simply just record the sounds into my daw.
      The Motif XF is complete, and very easy to use, except for drums.
      LOL, one time I created scenes in pattern mode that had drum arps in it, by the time I got the tracks chained, then dropped it into song mode, the scenes when triggered caused different parts to mute at the wrong time.
      I don't think I'll be using song mode anymore it seems broke.

  • @rcarter236
    @rcarter236 9 лет назад +4

    I want to create/record my own drums to use in performance mode. I also want to utilize the 5 arps. How hard is it to do this on the motif xs/xf? I know how to create a performance, split the keyboard etc.. I'm still working on creating my own drum grooves. This would allow me to really control a song in the way I need to when performing live, by myself or with a singer.
    Thanks. Love your tutorials.

    • @NStuffMusic
      @NStuffMusic  9 лет назад

      There are over 2000 drum arpeggiations in the Motif, but if you find the need, you can record your own arps. There is a learning curve but you can have up to 4 simultaneous arps in a Performance. They then can be assigned to each of the 5 arp buttons. Have fun creating!

    I'm considering buying a MOX 6. I've read the manuals, but nowhere have I seen what you're doing with the XF in this video. In particular, I would like to record a Pattern with multiple sections and have that running in the background while playing different live sounds on the keyboard, exactly as you demonstrate. Can the MOX 6 do that as well?

  • @Steve-pl8ii

    Which is better? THe Korg Kronos or the Yamaha Motif XF8? I heard the pianos on the Korg Kronos and you can real hear the crisp real tones in the pianos of the Kronos. Are they better on the Kronos than the Motif? And what is really the big difference between both workstations?

    • @NStuffMusic
      @NStuffMusic  10 лет назад +3

      It's really a matter of personal preference. Either item would be a great top of the line workstation whatever your particular use may be. (live performance, studio, and so on) I always compare keyboard workstation selection to shopping for a high end grand piano. You walk into a Piano Store, look at Steinway, Yamaha, Bosendorfer, Young Chang, Baldwin, and more. Each has it's own personality and something that makes one stand out. Maybe it will be the price, feel of the keys, sound quality, reputation or just something about the look. It's impossible for me to tell you which is better. Have fun with the comparative process and I'm sure you will make the best decision for your needs and won't be disappointed.
      Thanks
      Tony

      I'd like to add the in the end it comes to which product one will be most 'productive' with. Everyone learns differently so what works for one may not work for another. I've gone through many boards and now I'm cautious about my production ability with whatever I use. So, even though one keyboard might have more memory, or more tones or whatever, it means nothing if i can't produce with it. I am most production with Yamaha products - even the Motif - especially after having owner the S90XS which is a great primer, or learning board, into the world of the Motiv. Though they are very different, the Yamaha logic is consistent throughout the range of products. Happy hunting! (or selling as the case may be) :-)

    Hi, I wanna know if we can layer more than 2 voices and play them. For example the Korg KRONOS can play 16 voices with multiple effects at the same time. Does the Motif have this feature.

    • @NStuffMusic
      @NStuffMusic  10 лет назад +1

      The Yamaha Motif has Performance Mode where you have up to 4 voices to combine as layers, splits, or overlaps. The Kronos has multiple (9) tone engines or processors making it possible to do more. However, there still a limit due to polyphony usage. I wouldn't base a decision on this alone. There are pros and cons whichever unit you consider. Weigh all of the features in order to reach a well informed decision.
      Thanks.
      Tony

    • @danielb2392
      @danielb2392 9 лет назад +1

      N Stuff Music Motifs have always offered up to 16 voices in the Multi/Mixing mode, accessible from the built-in or external sequencers. These can include layers too. The Pfm mode is mostly just a 'shortcut' to make this easier by only setting up 4 voices, but it can be counterproductive for marketing when it leads to misunderstandings.

    I bought mine in 2014 but after two years with very little use and without moving it from the place I put it in my house when I bought it it started to show some very serius problems. The touch buttons with the arrows only respond to up and down but when I try to go left or right they dont respond and this has made for the last three years my recordings impossible. I even spent allá the money in order to try to plug it to my iPad so I could make my recordings using garage band App but to make things worst the Yamaha motif xf sinthezisers seem to be about the only ones that need to be configured in order to be recignized by an iPad!!!!
    Therefore by not being able to move left or right on my screen I was never able to get my iPad to recognize my motif.
    I am frustrated and very dissappointed with this sinthesizer and I wiuld not recommend it to anyone.
