Just throwing this out there: All the effort you put into your videos shows and is really appreciated! Your channel is one of the few that I actually put post notifications on for. I'm sorry you've got to deal with another meniscus repair. You're not alone, though it probably doesn't make you feel that much better. At least you know and trust your surgeon and you're not heading into the unknown. I have hEDS. I'm 65 years old and I'm facing yet another knee surgery as the result of a dislocation. My pain is exactly where yours is, and I could not bear weight. I've been in an immobilizer (that I also had at home in my brace collection) and waiting for the MRI on Thursday to tell me what's torn. I'm keeping you in my thoughts and prayers while we both go through this.

    Hey Mickey,
Sorry to hear about your leg! I know you have classical EDS. I do too. Part of my classical EDS is breaking bones easier (and I have broken bones from dislocations as well, (shoulder and knee) and yes crutches don't work because they make my shoulders dislocate which I know you know all about! I have heard that breaking bones can be common with Classical EDS (more then the other types. I was curious if you have also heard this? I am sorry you need surgery for your leg. Our darn bodies just can't heal very well. I will be here cheering you on. I am having tethered cord surgery in March in Rhode Island (I am from Tucson) so I understand the struggle of having to have a lot of surgeries. It sucks, but it also makes us stronger!! I will be keeping you in my prayers. Also I love your nails, super cute! Are you coming to the EDS conference this year? I am finally able to go to one since its in the state I live in! If so I'd love to meet you maybe! I have never meet a fellow classical Zebra in person or any zebra for that matter in person. Anyway much love from a fellow Zebra. #ZebraStrong

Best of luck. I fractured my distal femur. That is the femur, closest to th knee. It was 11 days to my surgery after travelling home for 28 from overseas. I ended up in a brace prior too and following surgery. I wasn't permitted to weight bear for a long period of time.
The stress from the hardware ended up damaging my iliotibial band that had to be repaired when the plate was removed. That meant another extended period of not being permitted to weight bear.
Good luck, just do as you are told, all will be fine in the end.

HI! I am so sorry to hear this! I have no clue if they can do this with knees but for my other joints that have needed surgery we have done cadaver ligaments and tendons which is a longer recovery but works better then using our own tissue or trying to fix it. Will be praying for you!!!

I had spare parts that were used for my tendon transplant. Not everyone has this, or they only have one. The palmaris longus tendon is "extra." It does nothing to help the movement of the wrist. To know if you have one, you put your pinkie finger and thumb together and look at the inside of your wrist. If a long, hard tendon pops up, that's the one! I have one left. Maybe it will help build or repair my meniscus.

Hi! Fellow EDSer here. Sorry to hear about your leg/knee. While I’ve never had my tibia break on me in the past two years I’ve had three surgeries because my knees both kept dislocating (multiple times a day). The surgeries taught me something important, time is essential. After my right knee surgery where they replaced my stretched out meniscus (is this something they could do for you? You should ask if you don’t know. They replaced a large piece of mine with cadaver tissue so no worries for over stretching again) my left knee started to give me issues. My surgeon said she couldn’t do anything until I was 6 months out but by that time my left hip was shredded and dislocating constantly too. Even though the long term recovery is a pain in the butt, it’s better than having multiple surgeries (as long as you don’t have other issues pop up on the no surgery side). Also on a positive note the recovery time for your meniscus surgery should give your tibia some time to heal!

  • @MandieZangora
    @MandieZangora 4 года назад +2

I can’t believe I’m just thinking of this now (since I’ve known about it since it happened pretty much lol) but being on steroids/cortef/hydrocortisone long term (even small doses!) weakens your bones and you’re much more likely to have osteopenia (liked I have) or osteoporosis. Most Endocrinologists order us a bone density test (a DEXA) every once in a while (depends on the dr and the patient, but 1-2 years is standard so if that’s not something you and your doc are on top of it I wouldn’t be surprised honestly but o would bring it up to your pcp or endo next time you get the chance ♥️😘🥰

New Sub! Anyways I feel your pain I am having meniscus surgery on the 27th of Feb 2020. I have a vertical tear and a cyst from the fluid that escaped that has to be drained. Right now I am wheelchair bound except at home. It sucks as a college student. I have to have someone with me at all times because I don't have the strength to push myself. Hopefully, my electric scooter comes in before surgery. I am waiting for it to be shipped. I will get some freedom with it. We will both overcome this hurdle in our paths. Stay strong!

I finally found you on IG, so now I can keep up with what's going on🤦‍♀️.
I finally have my genetics testing date! May 15.. it only took a year for Baylor genetics to go through my med records and decide I was a candidate, even though the Marfan Foundation changed my dx to a clinical dx of vEDS from hEDS. Since none of my dr's know much about EDS, none of them would document the clinical dx of vEDS, hence the year long wait.

Oh my gosh I’m going through almost the same thing right now. I dislocated my knee at work and it just hasn’t felt right since then (that was about a month ago). I go on Wednesday to have an MRI done with orthopedics and from there we’re going to see if I tore something which will need surgery or if it’s just a really really bad sprain (my rheumatologist is thinking it’s a tear but that’s with only looking at an X-ray).
Hopefully the surgery goes well Mickey.

I went down on my hyperextended right knee when I was 9, on a bouncy castle. All of my weight went down onto it, with the pressure of the bounce. Broke my tibia, my kneecap, and done all sorts of ligament damage.
    It was not fun.
I had no diagnosis until I was 23 and when this happened, my dad told my mum to tell me to shoosh, they gave me calpol and told me to stop being a drama queen.
However many hours later, my mum was still worried, took me to the hospital because I couldn't weight bare and it was swollen up HUGELY.
A month later I had pins in it and had them back out a few months later. Quite the ordeal.
I hope you heal up smoothly and there's no complications like there usually is with EDS 😂💜

So I didn't test positive for EDS but holy hell are we dealing with the same issues right now. Didn't break the bone but my kneecap is subluxating a LOT I can't even use my brace because as soon as I put it on the whole area BURNS like hell. We have it taped but uh... Skin moves (stretchy skin lol) and it's not super helpful but it does help some. My bones are popping that loud all the time and the fibula is moving around a lot. Even caught it on an x-ray ( super excited about actually catching that one ). So I'm an undiagnosed connective tissue case for now. Feel your pain girl. I am about to have my first surgery though occipital nerve release procedure kinda nervous about it. (Car accident did that one) I hope your surgery comes out okay, I'd love to see the surgery. I really am concerned about surgery especially when it comes to knees right now. Very scared that I'll end up needing one eventually with the way my knee is going. 💜 STAY STRONG 🦓

I have osteoporosis. I ended up getting osteoporosis from a steroid I had to take years ago. So I had fractures in my femur bones and sacrum. So I had to get rods and screws put in. Now i can’t walk because I also have scoliosis and other things going on. I just went to my pain doctor today and had a increase for my pain pump.

Ive also got EDS, have been struggling this past year with patella dislocations too, daw a surgeon yesterday who has proposed to operate on my knee and said he doesn’t want to tighten my ligament as due to the EDS it would loosen again over time so is planning on binding/weaving a synthetic ligament in with my own! He said it’s a 70% success rate, have your doctors looked into anything like this if you’ve had your nimiscus operated on before? X

If you see this would you be up to a video (of course if amy is in) with you and Amy's life to talk about the similar things and different things that you both deal with. If it's all based on personal preference or medical needs on things like draining all the time vrs wearing a bag and things like that. I would love to see how much is just because of being in a different country and how much is just based on how different it effects you? I hope I got my point across without being rude I'm just curious. But was thinking it might help weed out any of the comments that sometimes pop up

Broke my midshaft tibia on December 12 2019 by being horribly tackled in my soccer game but I didn't do surgery because of my reasons and I'm doing fine the only bad thing is I would have been walking alot faster if I did
