William Duvall has been a singer with Alice in Chains for a longer amount of time now than Layne was with them. I wish fans would be more respectful to the impact that he has had in making AIC's music accessible to a whole new generation. He's a fantastic vocalist and he does his absolute best to do these classic songs justice every night with AIC and I think he does a great job. I have been an AIC fan for a long long time, since the mid 90's and I am totally happy that this band managed to find a new singer and have managed to create some genuinely great music with him. It would have been a real waste had the band ended with Layne's death.
haha dude.. Alice in chains doesnt have a whole new generation of fans. Look at the fanbase at their concerts.. do you see 20 year olds there? Nope.. its all people 30 and over. People who grew up with AIC on the radio.
@@devinmichaelroberts9954 All famous rock bands continuously win new generations of fans. Younger people discovering older music is precisely what _keeps_ famous bands famous. yup... he's been co-singer for nearly 2 decades and has solely written two of AIC's better tunes of the 2000s. I could never get stuck in the past like some AIC fans. They're still pumping out great tunes.
I actually like Alice In Chains' stuff that they did with William just as much as the stuff that they did with Layne. I can listen to their 2009 album (Black Gives Way To Blue) all the way through without skipping any songs (1 of only 2 albums that I can do that for - the other one is "Alive Or Just Breathing" by Killswitch Engage). 🤟
I have seen this band 56 times 44 with Layne !! The concert I most remember was 9-29-1992 the same day Dirt came out and got to here some of the songs off the new album.Layne came out on stage in a wheelchair. Blind Melon opened for Alice In Chains and Alice In Chains opened for Ozzy what was supposed to be his No More Tours tour ! All that for 20 bucks !! Those were the days !
Layne’s voice was absolutely on point in ‘92. He leaned way harder into the distortion in his voice after Dirt came out, but come ‘93 it started getting weaker. Any show in ‘92 was one to remember.
Those were the days. No cheap good concerts these days. They’ve made it inaccessible for many due to price. Glad I saw sooooo many bands in the 90’s for a $20 bill.
I get the feeling in my chest and throat. Kind of like it takes my breath away. Well up a bit sometimes too. Reflective music. Introspection. Thinking of Layne too.
Recently lost my boyfriend to overdose and he used to sing AIC songs to me. He had an amazing voice and he suffered from the same horrible disease as Layne and Mike did. I'm not sure how Jerry is able to play those songs but I think it's beautiful that he remembers his friends in such a way.
Nutshell is my favorite song of all time. It got me through some darker times in my life and the song resonates with me on a different level. The acoustic version from Unplugged is my favorite version, but this extended solo version is amazing! Wish this recorded and put out for purchase. Incredible band and incredible soul in their music!
I really wanted to go to this concert 😭😭😭😭 But I was able to see Jerry Cantrell’s band a few months ago, and it was great because it was intimate, not too big of a crowd. Also it was my first concert ever; couldn’t have asked for a better 15th birthday gift ❤
I saw AIC at the Woodlands a few years back. Best part of this video is the security guy was a fan of the song, probably grew up listening to them, but it sucks he had to have his back to it
I met Layne after a concert in London town & country club. Screaming Trees supported. Layne was on the upper balcony looking down below at the fans . I walked up to him and said good gig Layne. He wouldn't let me shake his hand as he was holding a bottle of whiskey. He said shake the bottle So I shook that instead.
Even though Duvall has been with them longer and I have nothing against him. Layne will always be the best there’s nothing like the old AIC. The way he sings and the music it just touches me differently than their new stuff.
I have never been able to follow their new stuff since Layne... Don't know why but I just can't wrap my head around hearing anyone but Layne.. like my brain refuses to.. this being my favorite Alice song, It just does not hit me like it used to...it's my connection to Layne I'll always have.. but so happy seeing rest of our guys playing.. 🙏🏻😟🎸
I've seen them 4 times and they NEVER disappoint! This is true musicianship... Staying true to yourself and your roots no matter how the industry changes. AIC forever!
Thank you Jerry for that Solo gives me chills, makes the hair stand up. We All feel the emptiness without Layne and Mike! I play this song every day, it's deep in my soul means a lot to me. Thanks Jerry for honoring and continuing to fucken jam man.....A.I.C. forever fan!

Nick..there will never be anything like Layne again in my book... Layne lived his music!!!plus nobody could touch him vocally....
Agree I think the young William does a great job with the songs but Layne is just on a different level
That’s because Layne was singing from a place of authenticity. He meant every damn word, every damn syllable. I don’t get that feeling from Duvall.

Beautiful. The extended guitar solo had a lot of soul.
William sings this song well, however, Layne's haunting voice will never be duplicated.
I love how heavy/melancholic this song sounds with this electric guitar tune
