- Ariss Grutter is a co-owner of Awl Together Leather, a shoe-repair and custom-leatherwork shop in Vancouver, Canada. They show us how they restore a $6,000 Dior handbag that was previously poorly redyed and whose color is bleeding and transferring to the customer's clothes. This includes stripping the old dye, redyeing the bag, remaking the handles, and reassembling the bag.

How A Poorly Redyed Dior Handbag Is Restored | Refurbished - Развлечения
I love the Refurbished series. It is truly an art form to be able to restore old items and give them a second life. Kudos to to all restorers
Me, too!
Honestly, this work and restoration is really nice!
Very nice job 👍
It is always good to see that some people actually care about their stuff and repair it / have it repaired rather than tossing it and buying new.
Rarely happens but yes I love when it does happen
Had no idea leather could be restored like that. No more throwing out my old leather hand bags. Looked amazing.
You’re truly a master at your craftsmanship! I’m so sad the previous job was botched. Seeing you work shows me there’s hope even after all damage has been done. I enjoyed watching. Thank you!
I think this bag needed more restoration than just painting. It seems like the owner didn't treat it well at all :/ Decent result though ❤️
Thank you, Insider, for featuring this sample of Awl Together Leather's work.
That was some skilled work.
Amazing and ecologically friendly solution!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Wow. That looked so good!
Looks brand new, great job!
Insider always provides high quality contents
This is what you called A Good Work. Very satisfying
I don't know about those brand names.. I'm good with my $30 handbag. :)
Amazing excellent work I have a problem handbag would love to have it restored
You did an Amazing Restoration Job.
Is there any kind of standard where it's no longer a Dior bag? Would a hardcore Dior collector object to the handle being remade and consider it not to be authentic? Could you entirely replace the lining or entire panels and still have it be authentic?
I would imagine there are degrees of "integrity", such as using authentic or same-standard materials and processes.
For instance, I believe a pair of Chanel shoes dyed another colour would still be Chanel shoes, but considered modified. A collector would likely have their own criteria for assessing "authenticity" in their collections -- would it be on display or need to be functional?
The restoration is great! but is the bag meant to look frumpy? It has no structure to it
It is probably an old bag, happens to all bags over time with daily use, sounds like this was the client's daily purse so lots of use
Yeah
very nice ! any idea on how to make old dior bags more 'puffer' on the squares please?
My daughter Nancy, who is in high position at NewYork, uses this type of bag. She likes it, the color, size and weight. Thank you for *luxdups*
I wonder how expensive it is to have ypur leather bag restored?
Not cheap, but cheaper than buying a new one.
@@AldanFerrox ru sure about that?
This kind of restore would cost several hundred dollars, depending on who does it. Maybe even 400$
@@RoIIingStoned yes it’s typically cheaper. Some of these bags are $1000
Great job!!! How much it cost
What amazing job.
It looks like the original handles had some kind of (severely cracked) edging or piping on them. Could that have been duplicated?
That edge cote was done with edge kote (a type of paint), which over time cracks from moisture or heat or even movements over time. You can strip it off and reapply another coat, but I doubt that was the original coating. I think that it was done by the repair shop who did a poor job. I assume this because luxury brand's tend to avoid using edge kote (it degrades very fast)
You're much better off dyeing then burnishing the edges with wax, which gives it a smooth grip that never really cracks
'We'll start by going in small circles' rubs aggressively
Leather works are very nice
Great explanations. I really appreciate that you value refurbishing existing items and I love that you are a queer-run studio! Wishing you the best 💜
How much is it to fix up an expensive bag like that? & is there a price difference for all brands??? & if so, Why? I didn't know that a purse or bag could be fixed. Here I've just been reluctantly tossing them (eventually) once the handles crack and stretch out
I do not see the idea of buying expensive bags for a few thousand dollars. Just buy a low cost bag and throw once it goes bad or keep using to show you value old things. Nobody around you will be interested in having an exotic bag or a cheaper one. It is only the person who bought thinks high of it.
Same as the high priced wrist watches. Who cares? Whatever is worn outside, the person is the same. Regards.
Don't use green painters tape, it's too sticky and can damage leather when pulling off. Instead use Yellow Frog brand tape
*I pray that everyone who is watching this masterpiece becomes really happy and successful in life!*

How much do you charge to repair a coach wallet?
That was good technique
How can I get my bag services from you
훌륭한 기술력입니다.👍
Imo the leather looks way better after wear tear sanding and redye give a softer more tumbled look
I don’t think anything of what a person is but what work they can produce when seeking a specialist.
I'll stick to my kate spade bags. Less expensive, good work horses, and really pretty.
Their just showing you the process of how to restore a bag their not trying to sell stuff to you 😐
@@PeteysGuts yeah /:
@0:56 "safety equipements"...Umm, no safety glasses, no long sleeve or labcoat, no respirator, etc.
Hang tight everyone. In near future, we all have to use refurbished objects because of resources are decreasing.
😃
:D
Can they restore the leather on my ball
The dude has a voice of a woman
Brah you don't need to slap gender title into everything. I thought the goal was so people don't bother what you're into.
Exactly, even if you say your are queer no one should bother you. They just mentioned it because people still discriminate against queer people, I think it's really nice they teamed up and opened their own shop
@@graceross4888 This is about restoring a leather handbag and not the sexual orientation of the shop owner. I do not want to know an owners sexual orientation, that's a private matter.
@@graceross4888 idk. It's just seems linguistically out of context.
they said 1 sentence introducing their shop and what's unique about it, that small mention shouldn't be enough to bother you
@@pb7199 so that's how you see it. I believe there is more to a gay person than just being gay you know.. they're human being.
Is that how you see people's identity as a whole? Gay neighbor, not gay neighbor, bisexual neighbor.
Dude..
Next time I have to see novelty items getting „restored“ I will unsubscribe.
Are you being held at gunpoint to watch this video though😕
