Elvira is played by Anne Ramsey-Mobley who appeared in 38 films and more than a dozen tv shows in the 70s and 80s. She was nominated for an Academy Award for best supporting actress, for Throw Momma from the Train, opposite Dany DeVito and Billy Crystal.
She mastered the comedic villainess role and perfected the art of setting up gags for the main character to knock them down. In real life she was smart, witty, humble and caring and she loved her craft.
She passed away in 1988, just 2 years after appearing in this film.

You see oftentimes when people are in danger, their adrenaline kicks in and they can do some superhuman feats but we can't go full throttle all the time since our bodies would start to give out. But I'm pretty sure the writers didn't even think about that when making this movie.

My opinion on "so bad it's good" movies is that the key ingredient is suffering.
If nobody is suffering, and making a genuine effort the movie just comes across as a lazy insult to the viewer's intelligence.
Fuck sharknado, and all of it's ilk because they're the epitome of suffering's absence. Sharknado is made by some multimillion dollar studio, but no effort or care is put into it. If they want to make a movie, they need to at least put it all out there, and have some sort of risk/gamble for me to care.
I actually respect Tommy Wiseau for this. Idk how much he's worth, but he absolutely put everything on the line in making the room and that takes balls for anyone to do.

I never remembered the ending, nust that the family lived in the room then found the attic but were never allowed to leave. It had such an impact that I remembered it as an adult and finally found the name of the movie to watch. I never even knew she was the same actress in Buffy the vampire slayer or another awesome movie I loved as a kid Deadly Friend.

Thanks for this one! I'll never forget watching this movie in the 80s while I was working in a bowling alley. I was in the back watching and my friend was watching at the front desk. We thought this movie was pretty good then the lady getting her head blown up w/a basketball was a WTF moment. I think the movie MEGAN was inspired by this movie.

Years ago as a kid I remember watching TV with my mom and sister and this movie came on. We left it on because we recognized the actor who played Paul from Little House on the Prairie. When Sam started to get revenge on people we turned it off because we knew where it was headed. It was years before I found it on TV again and finally watched the whole thing. It wasn't nearly as scary as I thought it was going to be when I was a kid.

Did anyone get the Scream Factory Blu Ray? It's a shame that the directors' cut footage has been lost, and Wes Craven never recorded a commentary or interview retrospective on the movie. I do like it, despite the silly ending (the product of a "very senior executive's" demands).

Is this the one with Vin Diesel? If so, it reminds me of something that happened a few years ago, when I went to see one of those stupid "Fast and Furious" movies with my girlfriend Cassandra. She had a thing for Vin Diesel, which didn't bother me much, because although I would never have muscles like his, I did have something called "hair" located on my head. So I kinda felt sorry for the guy. When we got home, Cassandra wouldn't shut up about the fact that she went to high school with him. According to her, he was actually a really nice guy, and she dated him briefly. When I asked her why they broke up, she suddenly got all sad and told me that once, at his house, she saw something that "couldn't be unseen". So obviously I figured it was something pervy, but it turns out I was wrong. It was just a book called (and I hope I'm spelling this right) the "Necronomicon". Anyway, long story short, they broke up.
So, as you can imagine, I've always been a Wes Craven fan.
