Just started playing my NSO character, this gun being the default for Heavy Assault, I am basically stuck with it, once I realized the ads quirks, I was able to get multiple triple and double kills (i suck, my normal k/d is like 0.2) even before I upgraded from iron sights.
The Naginata trains you to do the wrong thing. You want to burst fire your weapons, not hold down mouse 1. This is one of the worst guns in the game to give to new players. If you're not a new player, this gun can be effective at medium ranges.
I just started playing the game again after 6 years and the two guns I was using the most were this and the godsaw. I was thinking why is this game so hard?
@@Ithorn110 They should really remove the godsaw as a starter weapon. I learned how to use it on PS4 so I know just how much of a monster it is but new players? No.
@@GHKiwi When I started Playing, this was one of the First Guns I actually used, and my Playstyle was Always more Defensive and Positioning Lockdown in Nature, so this Gun actually became really powerful for me as I would gun down Multiple People trying to Advance on the Position that I was Locking Down. Later when I Joined BAWC, and Used this, it was Really Effective for the Style of play, which is Drop in, Quickly Grab the Objective and Hold it until Capped, forcing the Playstyle that the gun is Really good at. Overall, New Players can be really good at using this Weapon, so long as they play a Defensive Style, it is Rather Unique in that from what I've learnt over the Months.
Actually the naginata gets a range bonus in cqc up to 28m with HVA. SPA reduces ur velocity and has 24m range of 143 dmg. Therefor HVA is the better ammo type for the naginata
SPA is always best for min to kill (167 and 125) but worse for guns with damage to spare or it's min is still the same TTK (Gauss saw as example ,you always 3 tap) HVA is better for those guns (Better velocity means less drop + lead and you extend the damage)
SPA brings the 143 damage range to 27m last time I checked, but as I read the differences between the ammo types the HVA does actually provide an added benefit so that is my bad.
I've auraxed the Naginata twice and found the optimal build to be CCLR/Compensator/Extended Mags/High Velocity Ammo. CCLR is one of the clearest scopes in the game and you should put it on every weapon you can. Compensator reduces vertical recoil which is usually unnecessary because vertical recoil is easy to manage, but this gun requires you to keep firing so the Compensator is a big help. Extended Magazine is better than Forward Grip because there's almost no horizontal recoil which makes the Forward Grip useless and only a liability with increased weapon swap time, whereas Extended Mags lets you keep firing for longer, which is what the gun is designed for. High Velocity Ammo is much, much better because of the damage profile on the gun. 150/125 means that the gun will kill with 4 headshots at all ranges. Extending the 150 damage range with Soft Point is irrelevant because it doesn't change the number of headshots to kill, and the hit to bullet velocity is a big deal since the Naginata already has a low velocity for an LMG. High Velocity boosts the velocity and has no relevant downsides, unlike Soft Point. You have to aim for heads with this gun or you will not do well with it. Luckily, it's easy to control once you get past the bizarre COF mechanics.
Camikaze is by far the best youtuber. You can easily tell how much love he puts into his videos and how much he cares for Planetside 2. Thank you Camikaze! Keep up the amazing content!
I’ve always loved the gun, but I’ll admit it took me forever too figure it out. Use a forgrip, compensator, hva or spa, and then whenever you get into a gun fight and I mean WHENEVER, just stand still and hold down the trigger without letting go. You down your enemies so fast because of the consistency of this weapons damage. I’ve never used the weapon as a point holder, I move around with it and just stop moving when I have to shoot and quickly kill my enemy then move again. It’s a weapon where you have to play backwards from how you play all other weapons, and once you have that figured out, you’re unstoppable. Don’t think you can’t strafe either, just don’t strafe spam. Take half second steps if you need to move around or crouch here and there and you’ll be fine. This is one of the most dangerous weapons in the game, most people just don’t understand it.
Shane Bradman there’s a decent amount of recoil, hell of a stretch to say there’s barely any. It’s one of the few guns that makes me drag my mouse off my mouse pad.
I like this weapon, I switch between it and the Promise for point holds. It's a decent noob cannon for NC. Noobs tend to stand still anyway and have little burst control. It feeds their natural instincts. It does create bad habits for nabs but they should start to develop better gunplay habits while playing other classes beyond heavy assault.
I love the Naginata... As a TR Main, I use the Naginata as a replacement for the Gauss Saw, since TR doesn't have that type of LMG... I use it in a similar way to the Gauss Saw, just with longer bursts and the occasional move stop to reset the CoF if necessary.
There is no reason to not use high velocity ammo. Soft point will bring the 7 shot range to 29 meters, while high velocity will bring it to 29.56 meters. So the same 7 shot range and nearly a 100m/s difference in velocity between the two. The Naginata has sub-par velocity to begin with, and HVA will bring it up to par with other LMGs.
The Naginata's main problem is that holding a firing lane in this game turns you into a cert piñata for snipers. And there are never _not_ snipers waiting for anyone holding still.
It is very much about moving a little bit, stopping, and then moving again. There is no other gun that operates like it though which makes it very difficult to learn.
I literally just finished arx on the plat version as you posted this video, I only got used to the quirky nature after a good 900 kills. I got most kills just spamming it at medium range holding down the trigger. Great video for anyone getting into using the gun.
@@austinkamp8048 That's the issue. The em1 can't do anything better than any other gun, there's never a reason to use it over something else. I just want to enjoy 200 count magazines while not shooting nerf darts.

I honestly hated the nagi on my HA but once i started to use it on my engineer i began to love it. I use LMGs on my engineer to hold doorways on points, can hold a 100 round burst of headshot accuracy at an angle where enemies have to be taking headshots to shoot at me... Not saying its the best lmg for this But it is incredibly effective for it and unlike the engineer mana AI turret you're not forced to be stationary sniper food... in combo with survivalist's improved reload speed I find myself holding choke points with extremely little downtime. Honestly, I feel like the naginata, despite not punishing you for poor trigger discipline, once you've learned appropriate bursting, the naginata is also not extremely adversely effected by bursting. making it IMO a very forgiving choke point gun.
