This movie was my childhood. My Dad used to always put it on in the evening after he worked and sat down for a drink, and as soon as we used to hear that opening theme play, my brother and I would rush downstairs to join him lol. Rocky 2 is my personal favorite, highly recommend the both of you watch it.
The funny thing is, he said "Crime don't pay" because he didn't intend to pay. Adrian's co-worker says "You gotta pay for that turtle food" and his reply is "Crime don't pay, Gloria. You know that" and walks out.
Thank you for watching! This movie is so much more than a movie, its a movie that my dad showed me and one that I will show my kids one day. It gives “family movie” a different meaning. I’m so happy to be sharing it with Kate -Phil
he was offered 250k to not play the role, they wanted burt reynolds. but he refused i think they gave him like 19k and a percent of royalities....well look at him now
Since you love "Rocky" you really need to watch, if you haven't already, "Cinderella Man" it's the inspirational true story of James J. Braddock a boxer who loses everything during the Great Depression. And becomes a day laborer, until his former manager offers him a one time fight against a rising young contender. That changes the life for him and his family forever. It stars Russell Crowe, Renee Zellweger and Paul Giamatti. It truly is a remarkable movie.
"Cinderella Man" is a great movie recommendation that everyone can enjoy, no matter what their favorite movie genre. I also like to recommend "Million Dollar Baby" as another outstanding boxing movie.
I saw this movie when I was in high school. As I got older I can to realize the whole series was a love story. Not just between Rocky and Adriane, but with everyone that came in contact with him.
"Southpaw" is a baseball reference. There used to be a convention in Major League Baseball that, due to the path of the sun, the ideal orientation of the field would be North East. This helped to cut down the amount of direct sunlight that the players had to contend with. So the 3rd base line would run North and the 1st base line would run east. Some of the older are still set up this way. Due to this, when a left handed pitcher was on the mound, his arm would be oriented south
I'm 53 and never thought I'd watch people react to movies/ video games. I love movies and love playing video games. I watched you guys react to the last of us and became a fan of you. Now I'm watching you guys react to some of the next best sports monies ever! Love ya guys😊
I liked the reaction a lot. :) My suggestion going forward is if you're going to watch it on camera with her, try to avoid explaining stuff as it happens and cutting her off at the end when she's giving feedback. At least wait for her to ask a question. I feel like she loved the movie, but you were emotionally compelled to tell her what you think of it, rather than letting her tell you (and us) what she thinks of it. She's the first timer and from the audience's perspective, we want to watch her process the movie the same way we (and you) originally did. 😁✌️ I'm looking forward to #2.
First time seeing you two and I enjoyed the video very much. I think my favorite part (and I have to believe all Rocky fans would say the same) is when Kate says, "I can't believe there are more Rocky movies. I'm getting excited now." 🙂 I look forward to this journey with y'all. Count me as a subscriber. 😁
This came out in 1976 during the Bicentennial celebration that year. I think that’s where Creeds extreme patriotism stems from . I can’t wait for you to continue with the greatest movie franchise ever .
Rocky's three uppercuts to the body of Apollo to end the 14th round is etched into my memory. I can't believe Apollo was able to stay up, let alone not go down again.
Hey! Yo! I just found your channel and now I get to binge your first 3 Rocky movie reactions. Liked and Subscribed for your Rocky franchise journey. Both Rocky and Adrian get some nice character growth. She never would have had the confidence to stand up to Paulie without her relationship with Rocky. Both Rocky and Adrian helped each other gain confidence to grow and change as a couple. Or as Rocky described it "Hey! Yo! I've got gaps. She's got gaps. Together we fill gaps." As for Paulie, he and Arian both grew up under harsh conditions. Rocky too. Paulie is a broken man and felt comfortable around both Adrian & Rocky as they too were broken. Paulie sees both Rocky and Adrian growing & mentally healing. Deep down inside he is beginning to feel left behind.
Yo dunringill1747! Thank you so much for the sub and for joining us on our Rocky journey! Great comment! I love that you mentioned Rocky's "I've got gaps" quote - I feel like that sets the tone for their entire relationship. They make each other stronger and need each others support in order to succeed. I also agree with your take on Paulie; the more independent Adrian becomes, the more jealous Paulie will be unless he figures himself out.
You see this in the background. This is something CGI can't do but you see Philadelphia is a character in the movie. The train passing by with Mickey and Rock shaking hands. The steps that Rocky climbs in the morning cold.
Everyone who's watched Rocky numerous times (or at least finished the entire series) really gets attached and invested in the characters; so I understand the tears. This is my first time watching a reaction from you. I'm a Rocky fan and if I'm not watching the film during my spare time, I go through the reaction videos. I hope you'll continue on the whole franchise (even if it's already your a million+1 in doing so). Great reaction! Thanks for doing it. Keep safe! I've subscribed, by the way. 😊
Here is a Rocky fact, the part with him running towards the camera down the street was done with no prep work. They just did it out of the blue because to cut the movie budget,so they don't have to get a filming permit. And the person throwing him the apple was just spontaneous
when micky s telling rocky to stay down. . its not to lose the fight. . its meant to tell him to take his time and use the as much of the count as he can to catch a breather
The lead singer of the street corner vocal group is Frank Stallone, Sly's brother(who would reprise the role in Rocky 2 & 3). The song playing around 2:30 is "Summer Madness" by Kool & The Gang(which would go on to be sampled by DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince in their song "Summertime")
Always cry when watching rocky damn is a great movie all the franchise man, n the more u grew up it hits harder. Is hard to categorized this movie cause it clearly be a romantic movie, it has comedy it has drama it is a sport movie !
That aprubt ending is fantastic so many movies walk you through what exactly is happening. Majority of people who don't know anything about boxing get hung up on that fact. Literally though we aren't getting our perspective. We are thrown into Rockys. He wants to find his girl and let her know he is okay, cause she might be worried.
Loved your reaction to this movie. Brother, I feel your emotions watching this movie. I also loved your assessment of Adrian, wait till your girl sees her growth in Rocky lll. 👍😎♥️💯🔥
1. Actually Rocky doesn't qualify as a Heavy Weight. He doesn't weigh enough. 2. Sanctioned title fights at the time ran 15 rounds. 3. Stallone kept the turtles and Butkus. The turtles are still alive. Butkus, not so much this thing is 40+ years old. He had to "paw-n" him off to pay bills until money started coming in. 4. You can't blame Rocky for working for the loan shark, because he made more doing that than boxing. Gotta pay bills. 5. $150,000 just to fight🤑 6. I loved Burgess Meredith A good first time/share is the original "Clash of the Titans" with him. 7. A good First time/share for Stallone is "Tango and Cash" with Kurt Russell. 8. Welcome to this entertaining rabbit hole.
1:42 "What about the hospital bills?" Boxers don't have to worry about the hospital bills. Medical needs and care for injuries associated with boxing are paid for by the state boxing commission. The guy who pays Rocky at the beginning even says "the doctor will be here in a few minutes". 21:19 They're inhaling nasal decongestant to completely open up their airways, allowing for maximum air intake which obviously your lungs will need in a fight or in any sporting event for that matter. 25:58 Yes, Kate, this is a quintessential cry movie for guys. So, don't judge us!😄 Also, the song Rocky plays on his record player (@2:29) is not original music from the film. The name of that instrumental tune is "Summer Madness" released in 1974 by the band "Kool & the Gang" (two years before "Rocky"). It was (and still is) a very popular song: ruclips.net/video/TjuorHVXgHw/видео.html
Burt Young was nominated for an Academy Award for his portrayal of Paulie in "Rocky". Ironically, Burt Young was a champion boxer, when he was in the Marine Corps. In the 1970's, there were many broken men like Paulie around, so audiences in those days could relate to Paulie, even if they didn't like him.
Great reaction, love what you both saw in the movie, i hope you go through the full set of rockies, i didnt like 5 like most, some do, but the beutiful thing with rocky, everyone has there own favourite, my favourite is the last one rocky balboa, but i wont say anymore
We are filming our reaction to Rocky 2 tomorrow! I’d have to say Rocky 4 is my favorite, and Rocky 5 was probably my least favorite, but there is still so much to love about it. I’m excited for Kate to watch Rocky Balboa and see that ICONIC speech
@@filmbenders i agree with the iconic, speech, there are two in rocky balboa, you thinking the one with his son, or the license board, im guessing the son speech look forward seeing kates reaction, as i think, characters have develpoed, i think 2 is better than the first one, but need to first one to set the franchise up
U really should watch any documentary on how this got made!! Broke, almost homeless, sold his dog...for real!😮...wrote the script in 3 weeks. Was asked big money(back then) to sell it, but not star in it. He always said no. Finally sold it for 30k to ABC TV. He was good friends with and done a movie a few years prior, with Henry Winkler. He became THE STAR of😊 abc tv in the show Happy Days, as the Fonz. He heard Stallone sold the script to ABC. Henry goes to the ABC heads and says, u don't GIVE me that script, I leave the show....they gave it to him! Stallone never made a ton of money on the rockymovies. Only as a writer actor choreographer. He got ripped off by the first producer, who bought the rights and rocky name, and never sold it back to Stallone, though he's made billions! Based on a real tune up fight, for Ali. He was going to fight Frazier later in the year, for the title, but he wanted a tune-up fight. He fought against Chuck Wepner, a journeyman tomato can bleeder, who was good, but never top 10 ranked. And he damn near knocked Ali out!😮 The guy singing outside, is his real brother Frank!😮 The first guy he fights in this movie, Spider, shows up in Rocky Balboa or Creed! The teenage girl he talks to, also comes back in one of those movies! Adrian is the sister in godfather!😮😮 Stallone almost died in 4, because Drago, actually cracked his ribs, puntured a lung, punctured his heart sac! Drago in real life, has multiple masters PhD in engineering! The blonde wife of Drago, shows up in Creed 2 and so does Drago, and Stallone actually married that woman, and had beautiful daughters with her! Tommy Morrison in part 5 was a real boxer and could have been the greatest ever, but drugs and booze got him. In 3 Clubber got the role, by winning a Tough man contest! In 3 hulk Hogan, hit Stallone for real in the back of his shoulders with his forearm, and moved vertebrae. Dennis Quaid did a amateur tough guy boxing movie, kind of based on the Clubber Lang actor, that was very good, called Tough Enough! and busted his lip open! There was never going to be a 2, but this movie made so much money, win Oscars, etc., Stallone wrote a sequel! When he was accepting an Oscar for this movie on stage, Ali comes up, grabs him, fakes punches at him and says, "u stole this movie idea from me!" Paulie has done a couple other great movies, Rob the Mob, and Pope of Greenich Village! Adrian is part of the Coppola family.... Francis Ford, Nick Cage, Sophia Coppola... maybe her daughter! What 1 and 2 are really, the ultimate love story! U can go see the Rocky statue in Philly! The mistake of colors he's wearing, in the auditorium, was due to a mistake and money problems, so they kept it in, and had the dialogue reflect this! Watch all but u can skip 5, finish the Rocky series, then go to Creed! The Great fight ever... middleweight Ray...boom boom Mancini vs Duk ku Kim,... outdoors, Caesars palace. Outdoors. Went the distance. Slug fest. Kim died in the ring. He fought the last round with a busted blood vessel in his brain. Fights went to twelve after that.
Great review, but I'm always amazed that everyone who reacts to this movie misses that this takes place in 1976, the American Bicentennial. That is why Creed comes out dressed as George Washington & Uncle Sam.

I agree that the scene in the gym is a great, great scene. I’ve always considered the scene where Mickey comes to Rocky’s apartment to be one of the most perfect scenes in the history of cinema.
“Where’s your hat?”
Love that line. Rocky gets his face beat in and that’s his first worry.
Apollo can’t believe… this scene always gets me

One of the best films of all time. 47 years and people still are touched by this little film.

not a bad choice at all. 👍🏼
Camden is south of Philadelphia.
Was gonna say, a huge portion of New Jersey is south of Philadelphia. It depends what part of Philadelphia he was in.

In all seriousness.....Rocky I/Rocky II are among my favorite films.
Sylvester Stallone was the 3rd person to be nominated for writing and acting in the same film.
