- For the first time ever, Steph & Andrew watches everyone's favorite movie boxer, "The Italian Stallion, ROCKY BALBOA!!!" Rocky is one of the top tier classic films in movie history about the story of a Philadelphian man who wants to make it as a boxer. To anyone who is familiar with this classic gem, will mostly remember Rocky's montage training scene with him jogging on the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

One of the most motivational franchises in the history of cinema. The Rocky saga is a must for every movie fan
Rocky 2 and creed 1 were the most motivations to me I love them
Maybe give 5 a miss tho😂😂😂
@@peterrobson9920 I recently rewatched 5, jeez it's sooo bad lol
@@peterrobson9920 na 5 wasn’t that bad
@@Milleniumlance it's not that bad
This movie has a special place for me. My sister brought home a stray kitten that wouldn't come out of hiding for 2 weeks.
I was eating chicken and watching this movie. She came out to eat the chicken and sat with me during the whole movie eating the chicken.
Been glued to me everyday the last 5 years now
The doctor who delivered Stallone as a baby used forceps that severed a nerve partially paralyzing the left side of his face. Because it gave him a droopy eye and effected his tongue and speech pattern doctors diagnosed him with a "dormant" brain and he was teased a lot. Part of the reason he built himself up physically was to make others think twice about teasing him and part of the reason he got into acting was all the different types of dialogs helped him train himself to talk as well as he possibly could.
ive always thought it was Bell's Palsy. Mickey (Meredith) also seemed to have it during in some of the scenes when he is yelling at Rocky (like in the training montage in 2 where he was screaming "FASTER!")
Talia Shire really brought Adrian to life as a character and her arc is wonderful. She’s the perfect partner for Rocky. They help, support, & inspire each other.
Beautiful reaction you two. The first Rocky is actually a love story. Steph said it perfect a couple fills each other's gaps. Adrian became more courageous because Rocky saw the woman she could be. He believed in Adrian as much as she believed in him. This also shows that man and woman don't need money for love as much as this is pushed nowadays. You build a life together. That is true love. My mom and dad built their life together, so this movie hit home for me. The end is so good because he did want to go the distance, but in the end all he wanted was Adrian by his side and for her to tell him she loved him you could see the energy come back into Rocky's worn out body. Adran is a good female character and she is Rocky's heart and there is nothing wrong with that.
Rocky pounding the beef and "you're breaking the ribs" with Paulie joking about "If you do that to Creed they'll lock you up for murder" and it calls back to that... He broke Creeds ribs, pounded him like he pounded the beef. Such excellent writing in one of the greatest movies ever made 🥊🥊🥊
Actually, I believe the quote is, "they'll lock US up for murder", implying that Paulie already kiddingly felt implicated in Creed's death, at the hands of Rocky, for simply providing Rocky with the ribbed meat to hit.
For decades boxing matches went 15 rounds but it changed in 1982 when a fighter died after collapsing shortly after the match ended; then the rounds were lowered to 12 where it still is to this day. But hell, way back at the turn of the last century, there were no round limits. Fights would go on for 20 or 30 rounds.
You guys have to watch ROCKY 2 now
Man, part 2 is so good! I can’t wait.
Every time I see a new Rocky reaction, I'm immediately on board for the journey (bc you can't stop with just one. gotta take the whole ride. one of the best motivational speeches of the entire series in the 6th one and there's gold to mine in all of them, even the silly ones and the one weak one). And the Creed movies are so good it's worth it to lay the foundation w/ the 1st 6 1st. The 1st Creed is pretty much a perfect film. They should teach it in film school it's so good as the perfect reboot.
There's a documentary on RUclips in which Stallone discusses the making of "Rocky". The budget was a miniscule $1 million so the production crew had to improvise for a lot of scenes. This resulted in innovative film making that changed the way movies were shot in the future. The documentary is worth watching especially Stallone's commentary on how scenes were shot and the challenges of the boxing choreography.
This is one of those rare franchises where every movie is just as great and often greater than the one before. You will LOVE the these films. Please continue reacting to these! ❤
I can't see a RUclips recommendation of a First time watching Rocky reaction video and not quit everything I was doing and start watching. Also, I can't watch that movie without shedding a few tears. This is my favorite movie of all time.
Sylvester Stallone said he wrote Rocky as a love letter to life
Part 2 to me is the BEST! A MUST WATCH!!!!! PLEASE DO IT SOON
Best boxing match ever put to film.
Yessss I love Apollo and Rocky relationship. They had amazing chemistry
carl weathers who played apollo played in the nfl before he became an actor and this was his 1st ever movie
Watch rocky 2 too its also a very iconic movie
my late grandfather loved the rocky movies , i didn’t understand until i got older & watched them myself
Sylvester Stallone said he wrote this as a love letter to life
So glad that you guys reacted to this film. Loved your thoughts. You guys are gonna love the next films because it just gets better and better.
2 , 3 + 4 are also great performances by the cast... 3 is my favourite. All the original Rocky movies are worth a watch 1 - 5 , original Saga.
p.s. dude, your Mickey impression is spot on!
Man, y'all are KILLIN' it with these reactions!! Keep up the great work! You're going to be addicted to Rocky after the first one haha!
Butkus was Stallone's actual pet dog. He sold for $50.00 bc he was broke. After he sold the script for Rocky he bought him back for a few thousand dollars. This was a love story, not between Rocky and Adriane but everyone in Rocky's life. You see in the two Creed movies.
I loved your reaction a lot guys, this a very inspirational and greaat movie!! Subscribed!!
Very Happy you guys jumped in this franchise
Awesome! Hope you do the rest of the series!
I saw this at the theater as a teenager and it was amazing to see on the big screen. It kind of came out of nowhere but word of mouth spread fast.
Sylvester Stallone said he wrote this as a love letter to life
Yayyyy.. now let’s watch them alll!!! You will LOVE every single one . Let’s go!! 🌠!!! Loved ur loving & careful & knowledgeable reaction 🌠🌠🌠🌠🌠
Part 2 was the best one of all of them in my opinion. To me, it's probably the most inspirational movie ever.
Rocky is actually a love story with some boxing thrown in. The first 4 Rocky's are great the 5th one is Love by some & not by others🤷🏻♂️
One of the best cinematic love stories…that just happens to have a bit of boxing.
Butkus was Sylvester Stallone's dog...While struggling as an actor he was forced to sell him, but when he was able to make "Rocky" he was able to buy Butkus back... And he was able to take the turtles - "Cuff" and "Link" - home with him, and they live with him to this day...
It's hard to overstate the depth of atmosphere in this movie. You see the realities of the harsh economic period of the 1970s, its décor, its styles. It feels at once like a long time ago and just yesterday.
You mentioned Bill Conti did "The Karate Kid." Well, John Avildsen, who directed "The Karate Kid" also directed "Rocky."
Absolutely super stoked to see the Rocky franchise being reacted to 😊 Discovered the franchise around 2008/09 during high school thanks to a mate who was a half Italian and half Greek, He was a massive Stallone Fanboy lol Personally Rocky 3 and 4 were my personal favs and I'm the minority that loved 5 😂
Was in Philly last fall. Had to run up those museum stairs! 😃
BTW - movie won a few Oscars including Best Picture!
When I saw the thumbnail, I knew it would be Steph who hadn't watched the movie. But didn't expect Andrew to haven't seen it.
the dog butkus that adrian gave to rocky was stallone's dog in real life
Stallone was so broke he had to sell Butkus for $25, and after the movie came out, he wanted to buy him back and the guy charged him like $15k
Am 23, i saw it when i was 19 and am an Indian, how have you not seen it considering you are much older and you live in USA ?😅😅
I know it's crazy.
Ik I'm 28 and I've been a fan since I was 6
Always movie reactions channels are fake as f***
I actually hadn't watched it until just a few years ago, and I'm 66.
My father and I have enjoyed the Rocky movies since I can remember. I’ll cherish them my whole life. They’re a really beautiful portrayal of belief, and trust in one’s self and their compatriots.
Sylvester Stallone said he wrote this as a love letter to life
Amazing reaction!! I can't wait to continue watching with you two. Definitely keep Steph through the whole series!
A great Stallone movie with him playing against type is Cop Land. Not many have reacted to it either.
Every frame...is a masterpiece....love Stallone...
You guys haven't seen Rocky yet !!!😮
Fun fact, the steadicam was invented to handle the scenes of him running up the steps to the museum. Also, as of about 3 years ago, he still owns the turtles.
This movie belongs up there with classics as The Godfather. It’s in that level.
The beautiful thing about Rocky - it isn't about boxing. It's just the metaphor for our inner battles.
Steph, I liked your comments about how great the camerawork is (during the fight) -- how you feel like you're really there -- and your empathy with Rocky's hurting after his early slog to the top of the Art Museum steps!
I always feel like one of the most touching moments is when Rocky runs out of his house to catch up with Mick at the far end of the block. I love the choice to have such a key moment so far from the camera; it gives the audience the opportunity to figure out or at least imagine the conversation based on body language and the overall situation. The accompanying music is low-key and perfect.
I think that, overall, this movie accomplished the Hollywood miracle of making it all seem real!
Thank you for posting this!
Please continue with the whole series...
Best Character Ever Written In The History Of Cinema No Cap !!!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻👑
Sylvester Stallone was inspired to write this script after watching a fight between Muhammad and Chuck (the Bayonne Bleeder). He has a great ear for dialogue.. choreographed the fight scenes that elevated movie boxing..
You have to watch the movie Chuck (Chuck Wepner),that's who Rocky is based off of and the fighter who's story actually inspired this movie.
Rocky vs Apollo fight was inspired by the real fight between Muhammad Ali and Chuck Wepner. Wepner was the #8 ranked heavyweight and considered an easy tune up fight for Ali, after Ali's hard fight vs George Foreman. Despite being far less skilled than Ali, Wepner kept trying and fighting until the 15th round
I don't know how many times I watch this movie growing up. I can watch this any time and if I find it on TV I will start watching it doesn't matter where it is. I watch the reaction to this anytime it comes up. On RUclips.
Paulie (Burt Young) in real life was an excellent boxer in the military - I think he was 34 - 0 while in the Marines... and even went to 11 or 14 - 0 as a pro.
Goes through 15 rounds with the world heavy weight champion, can't see out of one side of his face, still notices Adrian lost her hat. If that isn't love, I don't know what is.
Appreciate the Burgess Meredith love in this reaction. I think a pair of you from CinePals (perhaps you two) should do reaction videos to a few episodes of the old Twilight Zone series; in particular, the ones where Burgess Meredith was a lead in the story. He did four episodes of the show back in the early 1960s, of which there are two I highly recommend: "Time Enough At Last" and "The Obsolete Man".
"Time Enough At Last" is one of my favorite episodes.
They could also watch "Of mice and men" from the late 30s. Its fun seeing Meredith as a younger man even though the story is quite sad. He was a heck of an actor.
You guys should definitely watch Rocky 2 next, which I liked more. But Rocky 4 is still the best!
Definitely react to 2, 3, and 4 rocky movies lol incredible films! 🙏
Please react to Rocky 2 as well
Please continue this
fun facts , the actor who played paulie was a real boxer and there was a statue of rocky at the phiadelphia library where the steps where at but a lot of peope from there were mad that they had a statue of rocky instead of Joe frazier 1 of the greatest boxers of all time who was from philadelphia
Joe Frazier? I thought it was spelled Joaf Razier.
Stallone was almost in the Godfather--he tried for both Carlo and Paulie but couldn't even get cast as an extra. He looks perfect actually as Sonny Corleone if you read the book, but he was unknown and James Caan was well enough known by then. Joe Spinnel (Gazzo) was cast as "Willy Cici" and of course Talia Shire (Adrian) was Connie Corleone. Some real crossover there.
This is wild. I just completed this movie series.
all rocky movies always stand and fun sly always rocky like he said keep punching rocky for ever
I remember back in primary school i watched Rocky 1 through 3 about 13 times 😂 i absolutely loved it
Great movie reaction. I agree Rocky is an iconic movie. The fact that Sylvester Stallone was really nobody before this movie, kind of reflects the story of Rocky, climbing from the bottom.
I’m here for the Rocky/Creed content
stallone still owns the same turtles from this movie .
back in the days boxing used to be 15 rounds now its 12
Awesome movie saw at the theater! Thanks enjoyed y’all’s reaction and analysis
Rocky is the greatest underdog story ever told. Rocky 2 is the greatest rematch in film history. One of the greatest film franchises ever. Stick with it.
I love this movie so much, one of my absolute favorites!
Are u guys gonna do the rest of the rocky series ?
Perfect movie
You two are babies, i ve seen this movie lots of times on vhs and tv reruns growing up in the 80s
Hope you two enjoy it
His real life father played the guy who rang the bell at the fight and his real life brother was one of the guys singing around the burning trash barrel.
My personal favorite is part IV. But I really like the whole saga
I grew up in Brockton, Massachusetts, same as Rocky Marciano AND Marvelous Marvin Hagler.
rocky was actually inspired by Muhammad Ali v chuck wepner where sylvestar stallone was ring side and he saw the fight and Ali struggled a bit against an underdog he shouldn't have
The guy who played Mickey was a villain on the old 1966 TV show Batman as The Penguin
Andrew, loved your reaction👍
Please watch all of them! Great reaction!
Stallone got the inspiration for his script from watching Chuck Wepner ("The Bayonne Bleeder") make it to the 15th round with Muhammad Ali. Although Wepner was knocked out and needed 23 stitches, it was sort of a moral victory for the underdog.
keep going with rocky and rambo
14:50 - It was actually the production crew of this movie that came up with the SteadiCam that’s used in most big budget movies today.
Rocky was literally a punching bag the whole fight 🥲
Just came across your channel. I'm born and raised in philly! Huge Philly Phan & really hope u watch the rest of the franchise! Soon! They get better & better!
Non championship fights can be 4, 6 or 8 today a title fight is 12 rounds they use to be 15
Now ya got no choice but to watch the entire franchise, including the Creed films! Amazing stuff!
Bill conti is awesome composer... one of my favourites is for your eyes only movie.. different but great soundtrack to a bond movies then most.
Damn this movie is a pure gem.
21:07 Just imagine if someone from the 70's heard this "This song slaps" 😂
Did you know that Sylvester Stallone has a brother named Frank Stallone, he’s in this movie singing take you back and you see him shake hands with him out on the sidewalk and the dog was Sylvester's
Very few people knew that Rocky is oscar winning movie.
My old ass watched this in the theater at 10 changed my life
Talia Shire (Adrian), yep her brother is Francis Ford Coppala. Also her son is Jason Schwartzman and her nephew is Nicolas Cage.
My fifth favorite film of all time.
Butkus the dog is Sylvester's actual dog which he sold but when the Rocky script was bought he went back to buy the dog back but they knew what they had & charge him something like $10,000 in today's money
Leon 'Rocky' Edwards is the real life Rocky. He's the current UFC Welterweight Champion. His story is very similar to the movie, that's why people called him Rocky which he kept as a nickname. No one thought he would ever be champion by beating then Champ Kamaru Usman who was on a 13 fight winning streak and was in contention for being the GOAT of the division. Leon's last loss was to Kamaru Usman back when both were new guys in the promotion and were trying to make a mark. Anyway, check out his story.
Thanks for sharing. The making of is as good as the movie.
Great reaction 💯
