@@JonathanWinbush yes, it worked well, today I did my first apk and installed on my quest 2, it was the basic template but I added new textures and a few extra objects to test
@@JonathanWinbush yes, I can run live in Unreal with no problems, its the same as you did in your video, its amazing to see the scene and check the scale of the objects in VR mode. I am doing some decoration in Blender to test later :)
Important thing is to take a break as soon as you feel any queazyness. Then take a break until its gone and play some more. This should help build up resistance to motion sickness over time. Some try to power through it, which is the worst thing to do. Every minute you keep going might become additional hours of motion sickness. I have never had much trouble with it myself. I got motion sick once from VR, but it was a mobile VR system based on Google Cardboard, so it was low framerate and no postional tracking and the game was one where you walked around with smooth motion and rotation... the worst combination when it comes to motion sickness. But might also be part of why I now seem near immune to it. I have tried to see if I could get motion sick, trying games that had me moving and turning fast. Its different for everyone though. I hear some claim they cannot get past the motion sickness and either have to not use VR at all, or stick with games that use teleportation movement or maybe even just roomscale movement where you can only move around in the VR space by physically moving.
@@KasperSOlesen Good advice all around. For myself I remember getting really bad headaches my first few times but also that was in the early DK1 / DK2 days so everyone was still figuring things out but I got immune to it after awhile. @@JonathanWinbush I got mine end of Dec 2020 after registering on the wait list for while before that. I also got the recent v2 cable update a few months ago. It's a fantastic upgrade from my old Rift and nice that my oculus games play well with the G2 via Revive. We could do with more 'killer apps/games' though. I'm still waiting on 'the perfect' headset - sweet spot big enough so that moving your eyes (not head) is never compromised on clarity and resolution. Inside out is very good (for me) but yes, better blind spot coverage always nice (I prefer no base stations etc). Proper foveated rendering (not the faux Nvidia driver method) would be ideal too - but that needs game dev and engine to act only on the current eye tracking target area i.e. we need separate/extra code pathways (game and engine devs) for normal full screen and VR-foveated rendering, otherwise game loop/frame time will always be compromised. It it's done correctly then the promise to reduce GPU burden, and thus GPU requirement, will be realised. We'll get there...hopefully!

I don't really make games but you could probably get some good stylized assets in the Marketplace to work with. I know there has been a few good freebies given out in the past
Thank you for the tutorial. One more question, does Lumen works with VR already?
I'm not sure I think so
how do you set up the actual walking capabilities if you dont want to always teleport? great video btw
I'm not sure as I only use teleport myself but I think they have that laid out in the documentation
Have you tried to enable Lumen and if so how big is the performance drop?
Not yet I'll be testing that though
Would it be possible to use smooth locomotion so you won't need NavMesh?
I don't think that's built in the template you'd have to blueprint that setup yourself
Thanks you so much! But how should I do to move to second floor?😮
What do you mean
i made my project a 3rd person template, is there a way i can still visualize it in vr?
Probably but I'm not sure how I'd look as the documentation to see what plugins to turn on
Hi JW. Thanks for the great Video. I've been wanting a simple expiration of this for ever ! Just one thing I'm not clear on. How do I get the VR Template into one of my own projects ?
Is it in the engine content and need to load it somehow ? Or do you start with a VR Game and migrate the content to that project. Again many thanks !
I usually start with the VR Template but if you already have a project setup I think you can migrate the VR template to your project then in plugins just make sure you have the VR plugins enabled
Thank you .. really cool .. i see it is same 4.27.2 setup ... and very nice tutorial
Yup ue5 infrastructure is based from 4.27 tools so really similar setup as of now 🤙🏾
@@JonathanWinbush except glass material cast shadow 😀😀 not same
Hi Winbush, Thanks again for the easy amazing tutorials you do, quick question .. did you import your scene ( Level Migrate ) into the VR Template or you just added the VRpawn and Navmesh bound volume into your level scene ?
Yup I imported my scene to the vr template there
@@JonathanWinbush Thanks Winbush, one more question, did you try oculus quest 2 with UE5 ? im facing problems to run the VR template on it, do you have any tips ??
thanks a lot for this tutorial. but how do we export this file? what's the extension file? is it apk? or what?
For sure, here's a video Epic did that goes a bit further into it ruclips.net/video/Asw4C51RH9I/видео.html
Hey! Love your videos man!! I was wondering if you could do a video on displacement in Unreal 5? I know they use VFM now but I have no idea how it’s applied to single objects / scene elements beyond landscapes. I think this video would be useful for a lot of people coming from C4D, Blender and Max
I'm not sure since I've been using Nanite I havent really thought about displacements or normal maps because in theory in UE5 you no longer will really need them to my understanding
Thanks for the simple tutorial.
But, if i start an empty archviz project with a Twinmotion import, so i can make a vr presentation, where can i find and add the vr pawn blueprint to my project? And how can i make it movable with regular fps keys instad of teleport system? Let's say like the Twinmotion presentation? I should use the fps template instead? The last time i tried i couldn't build lights.
I've never used twin motion before
@@JonathanWinbush It run on a pretty simplified version of Ue, and it have a direct bridge with Ue so you can import Tm project as with Datasmith, and retain everything, but presentation in Tm, an exe with a walkable vr, pretty sucks since it doesn't support Raytracing, and we wanna take advantages of Ue5 power.
I was able to set the stage and it looks pretty good, but i can't find how to set a walkable vr without controllers.
And by the way, it started to always crash no matter what i do.
Hello my friend. Can you walk us through how to use the Oculus hands instead of the controller meshes in the VR template?
I'm not well versed in that unfortunately. I've only use the hand tracking a few times to navigate but how has your experience been with it?
Please continue with VR tutorials in Unreal. Maybe some UMG design and interaction with it with Reverb G2 controllers
Here is a pretty good webinar Epic did that takes it even further! ruclips.net/video/Asw4C51RH9I/видео.html
Hey Wingush! Love your videos! Im currently experimenting with ue5's LYRA and im struggling to connect my mixamo avatar to the UE5's new avatar as I want to play my character in LYRA. Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Ya this is something I still need to check out myself I've been on a tv production so haven't had much time to figure it out but as soon as I do I'll be sure to make a tutorial on it for sure 🤙🏿
Can I use vr as a preview and then use the mouse to place objects?
I'm not sure
Great video! Does anyone know is there a way to manually connect a VR headset to UE5? I am using a Varjo-XR3 and it has stopped displaying what is in the VR preview. I am using the OpenXR, Ultralreap tracking, and VarjoXR plugins. Thanks
Great Video unfortunately I don't have the VR Pawn in the basic VR Template so I can't even copy the contents to a project. Any Idea why the VR Template doesn't have the VR Pawn? It's a real show stopper.
I'm not sure I've not run into that issue
how cai I get the gamemode for vr? I don't have in my UE5
Hello, how did you get the VR spectator and VR template folder in your content browser ?
I want to enable VR in a different project but can't find a way. Seems like your project isn't a custom scene but a VR project allready. Thanks for help
Hi, Thank you so much for the video. I dont know why when i import a model from datasmith. and fllow your steps. My model can not teleport in different height. When I drag NavMashBounds Volume and clcik P. after make the scale bigger. My model is not turn is green. Please advise. Thank you so much.
So why wouldn't my UE5 show a VR template? I have installed from the Epic launcher, and updated as instructed via same. I looked it up and see nothing in a g00gl3 search that assists. Thanks for the video!
I'm not sure I've not had it now show the vr template on my systems here
Do you know how to use the VR editor mode in UE5 like in UE4? It seems to be broken and every tutorial out there just shows people using the VR Preview like this.
I don't I haven't been using UE4 in awhile now
This didn't work for me, the vr preview is greyed out when I try to load it in a normal level, but the default vr level works fine?
Sorry I'm not sure what the issue can be this is normally how I get it to work
@@JonathanWinbush I have also tried opening another level inside the vr demo level but I think I'm doing something wrong. Do you have to migrate the files?
@@_benk I usually start with the VR template then migrate the scene into that template

nice intro.. can we use HP Reverb G2 for augmented reality
I can't say for sure but I don't believe it has see-through cameras for that
nice video. im making a vr experience at the moment using an oculus quest 2, its my first time doing one, and im having a bit of trouble. im unable to use VR preview. ive got the SteamVR plugin enabled but i still dont know what to do. any thought?
I've not tried with my quest yet but I think you need the oculus store running also with steam
eh lol enable vr preview is all I needed, ty
Hey winbush, love your tutorials man I have a question. Is it possible to use PlayStation VR for virtual production in unreal engine? I need an alternative to vive tracker.
Actually I saw Playstation VR2 listed as Epic Games partner today so I'm thinking yes especially since Sony has invested money into Epic but I'm not sure how to set that up exactly since I dont have a PS
I hope so I literally built a pc and got all the equipment I need except the vive tracker kit so my fingers are crossed. If u hear anything on how to set it up please let me know !!!! Thanks for the reply
@@H3DBelieve I have a friend that released a game on PSVR like a year or 2 ago I know he used Unity but I can ask him what he needed to get setup
my oculus rift motion controllers are not moving at all I just bought new batteries but still doesn't move, can you help me please.
how did you get VRTemplate folder into this project?
I merged the project into the vr template
@@JonathanWinbush can you explain how to merge projects?
ruclips.net/video/mOHPwt2ZYJY/видео.html
Which zbook is this you’re using? What are some technical requirements you look for in a computer to develop for UE5?
I'm using this one here ruclips.net/video/ddgVeHxdADo/видео.html
I just go for the highest specs I can get
@@JonathanWinbush Thank you. This helps a lot👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Awesome Tutorial!👌🏽
THANKS!
Question: How to export the scene after these steps?
You would render but unreal I don't think these can be exported
Then how to view the scene in the VR headset?
@@AniFrame07 oh I misunderstood sorry. Here's the documentation here docs.unrealengine.com/4.27/en-US/BuildingWorlds/VRMode/
Thank you!😁👍🏽
Great video and very clear, thank you for this. However, teleportation isn't working for me, the circle is below me and I get no bending line, has anyone had this issue before and know how to fix it? I am using the Oculus Quest 2 and I have changed no settings apart from activating the steam VR plugin.
I only have the first quest but it worked for me there. Make sure the oculus store is running
For me the teleport also doesnt work. Any solutions?
@@JonathanWinbush yeah it is, the teleporter is there but its consistently below me and doesn't move around the environment
Thank you. One question. Did you migrate the VRTemplate Assets from the prior VR project or was there an ADD function in the CONTENT browser?
I added the project from the market place to my vr template scene
@@JonathanWinbush Ah. I see. All good, I found you can add VRTemplte via Add Feature or Content Pack menu item. Cheers sir. Excellent as always.
Quick question, how do I connect the VR headset to the Unreal 5. I tried to connect it to my PC, but then when I want to play it, it's greyed out. Please let me know how to connect it
I dont know what vr headset you are using but usually you need to have steam vr or oculus running before you start
@@JonathanWinbush Thanl you, I just enable the Steam VR, and it is working!
@@riowahaab There ya go glad it worked!
why the VR screen shakes that much? is there anyway to stabilize it ?
Doesnt look that shaky when you have the headset on
Hello, So I am using steam Vr to connect my quest 2 (airlink) with UNREAL 5.1, I want to make it a vr scene where I can move around but for some reason it is not working I am not able to use VR play button as it is grayed out rather using the standalone option, which works but I am not able to move around inside the scene. Please help.
hello how do i connect the vr to the laptop?
Depending on what vr headset and laptop you have but should just plug into your ports on your machine
@@JonathanWinbush alright ill try that
Not sure if you mentioned it. But some users might need to install the steamvr plugin :) edit -> plugins -> steamvr
It's been awhile since I did this tutorial but I think it's already installed by default
@@JonathanWinbush I had to install it at least. But the other VR plugins were already installed. But it might just be if you are using virtual desktop to streM it. I don't know 🙂
