Perfect match from Seles. Her dominance of that tournament was incredible. 3 titles in 4 participations from 1989 to 1992. As for Halard she was a strong player but could never truly challenge Monica. Her sole win was a default from Seles in Tokyo 2000. Their best match was the 1993 Australian open QF (Seles won 6-2 6-7 6-0).
Love Julie and her game. I too think three Grandslam singles QFs represent something of an underachievement for her. Wimbledon 92 she had some great performances but only made the last 16. Then there was the year she lost to Stevenson when the draw to the SF seened open for her.
You can see that Julie Halard had Monica on the back foot with a lot of the points, she just wasn't consistent enough to finish them. She was something of an underachiever, she could have gone further if she wasn't so inconsistent. She definitely had some weapons.

Such high level, so intense, so consistent from Monica….incredible!
It’s hard to imagine Monica started the match by facing 3 break points and eventually won it by losing just 1 game. 😅
