Seles' passing shots were unbelievable.. it's like she can pick a spot anywhere on the court and hit it there.

Most of the top players had a horrible US open 1992. Graf and Sabatini both lost in the quarters, Martinez in the 1st round, Navratilova in the 2nd and Capriati in the 3rd. Only Sanchez Vicario and Fernandez came through and Seles beat them both. She lost only 27 games in that open ❤

It was such a disappointment of a tournament, especially compared to 1991 when there had been some great matches.

Seles showed up and won 8 slams in three years of Dominance…this match here shows how truly quick she was before rthe stabbing and how she hit harder and closer to the lines then anyone..even her volley game looked sharp here ..Wimbledon was surely hers to lose in 93-96 years

Nobody does the passing shot like Seles.

I would have to agree. Her passing shots are probably the best in the business.

Monica looked quite a bit better at this U.S Open compared to earlier in the summer hardcourt season. I really wish Graf had played well at this U.S Open and could have met Monica in the final. But for whatever reason, Graf's form dipped quite a bit after her summer Fed Cup matches.

I remember seeing an interview with Steffi in a German newspaper after her loss to Capriati at the Olympics. She said she was "mentally tired". I think that probably extended through the US Open.

@@zeddeka She looked second rate at both the Olympics and the U.S Open. She looked slightly better during the indoor court season at the end of the year. But while she won four indoor tournaments, many of those victories were unconvincing and some were by the skin of her teeth. And some of those matches she won were because of fortunate circumstances as well (e.g. Navratilova injuring herself in the finals of Zurich that year).
