  • The Fluffy Meringue Shawl is an adaptation for the Yarnspirations Baby Blanket called the Fluffy Meringue Baby Blanket. Our Laura Jean Bartholomew reviewed the baby blanket due to the exquisite stitches and converted the baby blanket into a shawl. Here's what she adapted to make this happen.
She cut the baby blanket into half to form a triangle shape.
She removed out the picots from the baby blanket to simplify the pattern at the end of the large sprays.
She used Caron Cakes Yarn and crocheted the colour as it comes out of the ball. There is no doctoring of colours to force colours to appear.
Unique features remained the same as per the baby blanket are as follows:
She kept the large crochet sprays that are three dimensional.
She kept the center V-Stitches for both the center of the shawl and side edges to have a uniform and consistent look.

(Melanie) I know this shows my husband's name, and I don't know how to change it, but here it goes....This IS NOT the Virus pattern for those who comment that it is. I have done both and I have to say, I'm sticking with this one for making shawls. I crochet VERY tightly and this pattern is wonderful for those of us that do because I have no buckling that occurs on the sprays when I do the Virus pattern. I needed to use 3 "balls" of the caron cakes yarn in order to make a shawl of nice size for an adult. I absolutely love this video and I love all your tutorials :) For those who crochet tightly and want to do the virus pattern, I would suggest using a 3 weight yarn and a larger hook than what the pattern calls for.....and the rectangular virus is good for making blankets.......but for shawls, this is IT for me....I love it!

I am a tenacious Taurus. I taught myself to crochet at age 12. In the past year I have made over 20 Virus Shawls as BD gifts for friends in their favorite color. I am tackling the Fluffy Meringue shawl, it's challenging, but I think I am going to succeed. There's nothing you can't accomplish if you keep trying!

Love this pattern! Have made the Virus Shawl (several). Have also made the Fluffy Meringue Blanket using your video. It is so precious! I found his pattern today and am about 1/2 way finished with my "first" one! Thank you, Mikey, for your time, effort and expense put into your videos. They are pleasant and easy to follow and understand. I appreciate that!

I found your tutorials this morning. Your enthusiasm is a morning day brightener. I love your virus shawl. I am getting back into crocheting after years of neglect and loving all the new yarn and patterns. Thank you for your reviews. I was at Hobby Lobby this week and was overwhelmed with all the yarns. I can't wait to finish my current projects so I can start another.

I'm so excited ! I found the shawl to this pattern. I really needed a pretty easy shawl pattern it's been so stressful these days, keeping up with bills, caring for my yard and driving 6 hour's round trip just to see my pain management doctor. If I didn't find a fun project to make for the ladies at the nursing home, I was just going to make a therapy appointment HA HA thankfully Mikey and Diva Dan you've saved my sanity lol.

Mikey, you do talk fairly fast, and crochet fast ... as you know the pattern well, thank goodness for the pause button so the ones of us who don’t know the pattern can catch up. You’re right, it is a fairly easy pattern once you understand the rounds. Thank you for the tutorial. The “drawn pattern”is extremely helpful. This shawl is very pretty. ☺️

thank you so much for his pattern and tutorial, I am a new crocheter -I taught myself how to do a metered granny square baby blanket for my first project- and now i am going to try this. it helps to be able to look at the pattern and then what you are doing and see if my interpretation is correct. I do have one small suggestion: would it be possible for your next tutorials for the background (surface that you are working on) to be in a contrast color to your yarn? I think that would help make the yard easier to see and determine the exact location of the next stitch.
