Three normal guys, brought together by a love for running, who take on the holy grail of trail running, Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc.
'The Hundred Miler' chronicles the incredible running journey of Pat, Jacko and Steve which takes them from Australia to France, Switzerland and Italy. A story which involves years of training and preparation, traverses 170 gruelling kilometres of technical terrain, and requires some "hard, hard yakka". What does it take to face the hundred miler?
Directed and produced by George Webster and co-produced by Bryony Simcox, this film has been more than three years in the making. The film started as an idea in Sydney, and saw us attend some incredible races in the Australian bush, before heading to France with the runners and support crew for UTMB 2019. The film has since been edited in the UK and completed in Spain, and has been an absolute pleasure to produce. It is with great honour that we are now able to release it, and we are utterly grateful for the support we've had along the way. Thank you!

Great film! About 10 years ago I was on vacation in Fiji, sitting next to an Australian fellah telling me about ultra races he organized in Australia. I remember telling him how I had recently run my first half marathon in Disney World and was quite proud of myself. I had no comprehension of what an ultra was, or what he was talking about. That was nearly 10 years ago. 5 months ago, I finished UTMB. Funny how life happens. Films like this helped me find my way to UTMB. Keep inspiring others, you are changing lives!
This is one of the best I've seen, who cares about elites and their stories, I want to see regular guys fighting it out to stay in the race. Great job guys!
Hi Walter, thanks for the kind words! Yeah that's exactly what we wanted to capture, normal people pushing themselves to do something epic.
"Regular" among the irregular guys 😅
Btw amazing video dude
@@brianutama7094 lol no kidding.
Check this out: this is "The Golden Hour" - the last official hour of the Western States 100, it's about people who battle with the cutoff times ruclips.net/video/JUZG_XHUenY/видео.html
@@CsabaTothMr Ohhh I LOVED that too!!! Thank you so much for the recommendation and link!!
Every now and then RUclips recommends a Gem, this is a GEM ❤️
Cheers, Tom - so glad you found the film!
It IS INDEED!😃❤🏔🏃♂️🏃🏼♂️
"it's night two of no sleep...brains go funny funny. Haha" - summs it up perfectly 26:15
That was probably the best running film I have seen. Bloody good to see that it focuses on a bunch of normal blokes too.
Also the producer deserves a chocolate fish!
Cheers Brett, seriously flattering words there :) We think there should be more films about 'normal' people doing epic things!
Nothing normal about running 100 miles though!
Not normal. In the Royal Australian Infantry we call blokes like this "Freaks of Nature".
Great film! I really wish there were more films like this of women runners.
Thanks Lorna! And we totally agree, we would be keen to tell the stories of other folk to help diversify the 'trail-running film' genre. As we continue to make videos, we'll be keeping this in mind. Bryony :)
I was never much of a runner. I just did it to stay moderately fit. But in April 2022, I discovered trail running and was inspired by the stuff I saw on RUclips. I got more serious from then on and in July of that year I did my first Ultra (a 50k). I'd never done any sort of race or event before, so completing that was a landmark moment for me. Did my second 50k a couple months after that in September 2022, and now three weeks from my third, with my fourth 8 weeks away. I then got a place for the CCC in September 2023. It's been an incredible journey
Woah. Maybe the best trail running film I've seen. The quality is superb. So so good.
Thanks Adam! That's a killer compliment, means a lot. We'll be sure to check out your films and perhaps we can collab when we're over your way. Based in Spain at the moment. Cheers!
Broaden just finished the film. I’m serious. It’s beautiful. And it’s shot so good. I’d love to hook up in the future! Stay safe!
Broaden just messaged you guys on IG about a virtual film festival you need to gets your film in! For real.
"Would you come back to UTMB again? - Never!" Yeah, that's what we, 2-time UTMB finishers, once said. ;) Great documentary. Well done guys, all of you! Just qualifying to be at the UTMB start line is an amazing effort and sacrifice. Congrats!!!
Thanks Daniel! We wouldn't be surprised if the runners returned to UTMB... we saw first-hand how addictive ultra and trail running can be. Perhaps a sequel is in store!
Same with "Le grand raid / La diagonale des fous"...each time in the middle of mafate
As someone who is currently trying to get into utmb this is a stunning piece of film. So good to see a bunch of normal blokes going for it
Thanks a million! Really hope this film can give you the encouragement you need. p.s. greetings from a fellow Brummie (Bryony, Producer)!
@@BroadenFilms no way what a small world! I stand by theory that us brummies were the key players in building the world during the industrial revolution,no one can tell me otherwise 😂
I'm not sure I could ever do something like this with a gun to my head. soooo much respect!
WTF! Why am I only discovering this now? I’ve watched every ultra doco there is on YT, and here this is, 3 seemingly normal Aussie lads have a crack at the holy fucking grail. The most inspiring trail doco I’ve seen. I’ll be watching this every week until I make it to UTMB in a few years from now. So much respect to you guys!!!
Awesome story and motivating!
So glad you enjoyed it!
@@BroadenFilms Time to go run 100 miles!
Outstanding film. It’s not often we get to see every day trail runners set a huge goal and go for it. The pro’s make it look easy but we know it really isn’t.The honesty and vulnerability of these gents as they tackled UTMB was awesome to see. I guess I shouldn’t complain too much about my 50k training! Thanks for sharing their journey.
Your words mean a lot to us (and the runners) Sherree! Thank you. And we're cheering you on for the 50K you're training for.
" I've never come again " .. I Said it many time , for some races , early years , but I went again and again. Thats TrailRunning..
We wouldn't be surprised if that lads return, like you say, that's the appeal of trail running!
My favorite line in the vid.
Top notch film and kudos to all the lads. Wonderful editing and great storytelling. I had to drop out in 2018 and 2019 due to some mad hallucinations, but I will be back for sure. Keep running and moving forward.
Woah that must've been rough in '18 and '19. As you say, 'keep moving forward'! Cheers Nicki
Bloody awesome doco! Well done boys. Love seeing the Aussie battler.
Cheers!
I am crying just watching the movie, what would I fell if I race? 🙂 Great job guys.
Thankyou 🙏🙏
Fellas ... my heart, my legs and my respect are totally with you 🥇
Thank you!!!!
Best trial running film I've ever seen
Wow. Thanks Lucas 🤙🏅🤩
Awesome. I’m looking to complete a 100-miler in March 23!
This was superb! One of the best running docs I've seen. Congrats to you both for finishing such an insane race!
Just loved the final words 😂 amazing film, thank you so much guys ❤️
Our pleasure. Glad you enjoyed it
Brilliant what a great story very inspiring gives an old bloke like me hope
Cheers Phil! Glad to know the film gave you the boost you were looking for :)
Stuck in lockdown in NZ. Missing the trails. This is GOLD. Thanks for posting lads and thanks RUclips for recommending!
Hi Shaun, we're so stoked you found the film on YT and found some inspiration in it. It was a pleasure filming the three lads and even got George stoked to run an ultra one day! Stay safe in NZ. Bryony & George.
What a brilliant film. Normal guys achieving the extraordinary. Fu%$ing brilliant. Inspirational
Can't ask for kinder words than this, thanks Steve!
this was wonderful thankyou!
So awesome!
Great sunday morning watch after feeling sore from a 17 k run. That’s almost 10 times shorter! Amazing.
I loved every minute of this. Thank you
Awesome, man, awesome!
Thank you for sharing your experience! Keep it up!
Good job guys! A great insight into how difficult it is!
truly great video
Man what an amazing documentary about 3 regular guys who strived to qualify for possibly the toughest trail running championship race in history. I really hope to qualify for this race as well in the future. Major props to each guy for putting themselves through the experience & the camera guys for all the footage.
Such kind words, Justin! That's exactly what Broaden wanted to capture: the idea of three normal guys who worked their way up to run something truly extraordinary. All the very best on your own running journey and so glad you liked it :)
Brilliant great work
Wow. What a great film. Very inspiring!
This is really incredible. A captivating story of their adventure! Some really great shots, love the drone shots!
Hi Matt, ahh so glad you found the film and enjoyed it too! Thanks :) We must admit, the aerial shots are actually helicopter footage - we weren't allowed to fly drones but because George bagged a media pass we were given the media footage which was filmed from the sky - they were super useful in adding drama to the rest of the shots and providing some context of the epic mountain setting!
Wow what a great doco! So Inspiring - thank you so much!!
This is the best UTMB film I have seen and I have seen a lot considering I am hoping to race in the CCC next year. Well done to all involved!
Thanks so much Gene. Best of luck with the race this year!
Obviously what you guys did is an incredible feat of endurance both physically and mentally but I just wanna say mad props to your crews, especially the girls...they were there at every single checkpoint. You don't complete a race like this without support like than. Mad respect to you all and a brilliantly shot film!
Thank you thank you thank you (from the filmmakers, the support crew and the runners)!!
Amazing!!! Inspirational and a great insight!!! Well done guys!!!!
Absolutely loved this. Goosebumps all the way through!
FANTASTIC film guys.
Cheers, Clive - means a lot.
Great film guys! Brilliant work lads!
This is epic! I Love and understand the the feeling and emotions that come along with a 100 mile Ultra. I sit here and watch thinking of my 100 that I ran in January, I DNF'd at mile 84 (ITBS) and still feel the sadness I felt for weeks after the race. I will go again next January and work harder. Thank you so much for this masterpiece! Bravo!
Glad it touched you, John. HUGE achievement making it to 84miles, and we sincerely hope you can return in Jan and complete your 100 miler.!
@@BroadenFilms Thank you for the kind words!
Get back at it when you can ! You got this !!! I’ve done several but my first I passed out at mile 92. I was horrible upset for weeks and people didn’t understand why either . Hang in there ! Don’t give up
@@Kwildcat13 Thank you for the encouragement! I will not quit until I accomplish the goal!
I cried when I saw them drinking Heineken at the end! haha In all seriousness these guys put in the work and got their experience! Good on them!
Tears for the beers! So glad you enjoyed the film Michael! :)
Cool stuff 👌 thx for this
Fantastic job on this film! Very inspirational to see you guys set a goal and make it happen. Congrats!
Well done all a brilliant achievement
Great film guys. Congrats Pat awesome effort mate
Greetings, from the U.S. MAN, this is SO inspiring! 😃💓I want to do Mont Blanc so BAD! I need time to train, though!☹ I'm getting old (in my early 50s, now) real fast!.⏳⚡👴🏾☠⚰ If my body holds out, and I can get my kids through college in the next few years, I REALLY want to try to qualify! This darn Covid-19 pandemic, has closed so MANY qualifying races. I'm so HAPPY for these guys! You guys are AWESOME!!😃🏔⛰🏃♂️
So so so kind Omar! You're awesome too, sounds like you've got the motivation and willpower to give it a big hard shot! All the best and hope to see you at UTMB one day :D

@@BroadenFilms For sure my friend!
Lads! You absolute heros. Well done! 👏🏻
Intense, immense, inspiring... but really the whole thing (run and film) just takes your breath away.
thank you Kirsty! Inspiring is exactly what we wanted it to be :)
What an amazing testimony of the UTMB ! So nice to see normal extraterrestrial runners, their fears, feelings, emotions... And the film quality and editing is outstanding. "Would you come back to UTMB again? Never !" Hahahah ! Yeah, this is your first comment passing the line. But I tell you guys, few months later you might say "Well, I'd love be there again..."
UTMB marks you for life. Congratulations !
Perhaps you're right, and the three boys will return to Mont Blanc to take this epic race once again. Really appreciate your very kind words coming from someone who has experienced UTMB!
Incredibly well done. So much emotion captured through the lens. Thank you for sharing such a raw and real experience with us.
quel souvenir ! thanks a lot for this film, i remember me running and walking. I have the storm from La Fouly in my memories for ever. It's a very realistic film with good music !

Happy to share it with you, Robin!
Wow. That was amazing fellas!
Thanks so much Torey!
I dont' get it, just finish it faster. Easy. Haha, jk.
What a nice doc. I've been binging these ultra docs for a while and they're always on point. This one does not disappoint at all. I love the fact that they're covering the athletes that really aren't favoured to win and how the race goes for them. A good eye-opener and something to think about if you're thinking of going into the sport.
Really enjoyed that lads, thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it, David.
Well done guys, a great story well told!
much appreciated Chris!
Amazing video!!! Loved it. Congrats to the boys!
Thank you Robyn :)
Sick film, loved every minute. RUclips algo will push the film out to hundreds of thousands, just wait.
