In this video, we'll take a look at the 37mm Tudor Black Bay 54, a luxury dive watch released in 2023 that quite frankly no one saw coming. With that being said, I'm prepared to argue that this thing is pretty great. What do you guys think of the Tudor Black Bay 54? Is it too small or just right?

I love that watch brands are trending towards smaller, more refined sizes.
Well a 36 mm dress watch is fine or perfect but not for a dive watch with a thick bezel.👽
It drives me nuts, lol. I have large wrists, and the vast majority of watches I love are too small for me.
@@NCSheriff7To be honest this is just another desk diver. One who wants pure diver will go for Pelagos not for this one. I have large wrist but i tend to like watches that are under 40mm. Each on his own.
They really aren't. Rolex just increased the size of the sub, explorer , Daytona. Name a brand and they have made bigger watches recently. And also smaller ones. But this isn't new. This is what they have always done and always will do to sell more. Go up. Go down, up, down, churn, consumption.
Well...smaller, of course, but I wouldn't say "more refined." At least for Tudor, it's watches are equally refined, regardless of size.
This was my first luxury watch this year, a treat to myself for my 40th birthday, and I absolutely love it.
I’ve got a good friend who bought this watch, his wrists are neither small nor dainty and this watch looks absolutely fantastic on him. I’m 6’3” and over 200 lbs and when I tried it on it still looked great, I’d buy it in a second
I love the 54. I bought it sight unseen and was concerned it'd feel too small on my 6.75" wrist, but it's changed how I feel about watch sizes. It's just so comfortable and wears perfectly. This will sound crazy, but I sold my Rolex Submariner because after wearing the 54, it felt too big and clunky. I replaced it with an Explorer 36.
Great choices, sir!
Wise decisions. I like the pre-ceramic subs... not the latest obese variants. The 54 is essentially a 50s Submariner, so you still have a sub
I’m seriously considering doing a similar move with my Panerai Luminor. I love the watch, but it’s such a chunky and quite heavy piece.
I replaced my Rolex sub with an explorer 36 too for the same reasons!
Same. I wear the 54 & 36 Explorer mostly. Great selections!
I'm 6.1 and I just bought the Black Bay 54 . It is a verry classy watch that wears extremely well for the suggested 37mm dial . Try it on your wrist first , the charms follow fast . Very happy with my latest purchase .
Definitely a great release by Tudor, a perfect do-it-all in my opinion. Very glad to see that smaller wrists also are having more options nowadays.
If Rolex come out with a 38 or 39 mm Submariner/ Submariner date it would absolutely break the watch market , and would definitely be my dream watch 😩
So...a case of "be careful what you wish for?"
Why? That’s tiny lol
No
You mean pre-ceremic…
Nothing will break the watch market anymore. Luxury purchases are slowing down like crazy and it will only get worse.
Tudor is on fire lately, and I'm loving how they're all about experimentation and audience engagement, which sets them apart from Rolex. The Black Bay 54 has me hooked, and I'm already on the waitlist at my local AD. Can't wait to rock it on my wrist!
I’ve been so happy to now have the opportunity to “buy vintage” but have the reliability of modern. I so appreciate Tudor for making these. 🙌🏾. Great coverage as always Teddy 👍🏾
I have worn the Black Bay 54 every day for about 6 months now. From Erika strap, leather strap, back to the bracelet it is incredible in every situation! This is my one and only piece. Thanks Teddy!
I love how it looks like a vintage watch but the reliability of brand new. I can't afford a Rolex, so I might get this one
Finally, the review I've been waiting for!
Been eyeing off the Black Bay 58 for a couple of months but something just didn't sit right on my wrist, when the 54 came out I went in to have a look and it felt right. Had it since May and it's my daily even though it's the most expensive watch I own. The thinness, simple design and quick adjust made it the perfect watch.
Great review as always. As a small wristed individual myself, I too like this trend towards more reasonably sized watches. I think a video on the Seamaster Planet Ocean, particularly the 39.5, should be coming soon as it is imo the most compact wearing premium deep dive watch on the market! It’s a beast and I feel like it hasn’t gotten the love it deserves on your channel yet!
The first Tudor I have ever touched - literally and physically. Been wearing it daily for 5 months. I don’t feel like wearing any other watch. To me it is a perfect one watch quit the game watch.
I’m pretty new to the game and thinking of getting this as a ‘one and done’. Would you recommend?
@@JGarantziotis It would also depend on your budget. Under the 5-6K range (if you have a larger budget, I am the wrong person to ask), this is the perfect buy as a one watch do-it-all.
The size is great, the build is great. As a one watch, it has various elements going for it in terms of design, its not too plain nor bland so it will remain interesting. It is neither too small, nor too big; understated yet appealing, both at the same time. Fantastic prower-reserve and movement.
The interesting thing is, while it will be brand new, it does not have any bling - you and any enthusiast will know what it is, but to any other person it will look like a watch from the old times with a lot of character; after all, it is the exact same design from year 1954, so it is been around, trends will come and go, but this model will always be at the epicentre of any turning point.
For comparison, and quality aside, the 36mm Explorer is a great watch, but it is a hint bland as a one watch do it all. Down the line if you want to buy one more watch, you can consider the 36mm Explorer, a base OP White Dial, or a DateJust 36mm White/Silver Dial. You will pretty much be sorted forever if you avoid the RUclips rabbit hole !
I absolutely recommend the BB54 as a ‘one and done’. If you do go for it, do let me know your thoughts after 5-6 months of daily wear :)
Take care and all the best !
I own the Tudor Black Bay 58 blue 39mm as well as the 36mm blue dial. I would love this watch as I have small wrists and this is right in the middle size wise of the two I currently own. It’s now on my radar! Thanks Teddy.
The beauty of the 54 is that it opens up the dive watch to more people who have slimmer wrists and that's a good thing. If I didn't have my 58 I'd certainly give it a look. From a personal perspective I prefer the snowflake running second hand over the lollipop and I prefer the red triangle adding that little pop of colour to the bezel. I guess the nearest readily available smaller dive watch is the Aquis from Oris but without an in house movement or the same spec as the Tudor MT5400.
I was going for the BB58 but now this BB54 is a game changer for me. I can see myself wearing this on my 6.5" wrist. Thanks for the video.
The BB54 is my first Tudor and I absolutely love it. This replaced my Certina PH200M (2020) and represented a 10 year work milestone, hence a step up to 'luxury'.
I love almost everything about it, if Tudor insists on omitting 1/2 links, the T-Fit needs to be longer, period. I had to source a 3rd party 1/2 link to optimize fit. This needs addressing and falls short of £3k+ watch standards.
The BB54 is suitable for more occasions than it isn't. My wearing habits returns +0.3 sec/day and I haven't needed to touch the crown since I set it 3 weeks ago. The quality is higher than I've ever owned and the ceramic action of the clasp and bezel is sublime. The 20mm lugs allow for a myriad of style and colour options from my catalogue of compatible straps. I'd rather have one great watch and more strap options than visa versa.
In summary, a stonker of a watch, with quality for lifetime ownership, with a minor fitment gripe.
Well done Tudor 😊
Keep the content coming Teddy!
This is my daily wear. First real watch buy. Currently my one watch collection and it’s perfect. Could not be more pleased with it. For the small wrist gang this is as good as it gets for reference I’m 6.25in wrist size.
I went with the 54 over the 58, even with a 7.25 in wrist. It’s small on me, yes. But it’s something about the squared-off case shape and vintage vibe that got me. It’s more effortlessly vintage than the 58 with all its gilt accents
That’s good to hear, I’d kinda ruled it out as being too small for my 7in wrist but my main watch is a Reverso duoface (medium) so I guess it can’t wear smaller than that. Shame it’s so hard to try on/see at ADs
@@manuel_winde yeah it’s definitely doable. And I guess I got lucky, but I just called an AD near me and they had one, got it next day. I know that’s not the norm, but it’s possible to get them
I have the same wrist size and made the exact same decision. Very happy with it.
Was really considering a Tudor as a post deployment gift to myself. Now I have to look at this 54 as a Diver I can use it for work.
I initially bought this on the rubber strap and it never really resonated with me but once I swapped to the metal it became a pretty permanent fixture on my wrist. It's a beautiful watch that nails the vintage vibes better than anything else in the Tudor catalogue. And it's a really a Tudor submariner with original vintage dimensions. I don't think they have a better watch in their current catalogue
I agree 👍 best looking/proportion out of all the tudors!
Did you swap it with the OEM steel bracelet or aftermarket? Also how much did it cost you?
uncle seiko strap @ 200 AUD for me. Good quality and does the job@@tombart4985
I own the BB58 Blue. This is on my short list for my 50th birthday in November. I tried it on the rubber strap. Great watch. Great video
Saving up for a 54, absolutely love it!
I own one as my one and only watch. I’ve owned plenty of tudors new releases in the past (bb pro, bb58, fxd, etc.) and this has been by far my favorite and their best watch imo
As a person that loves Tudor, I own a 58 and Pelagos 39, I don’t think I would ever consider this but I do appreciate Tudor doing this.
Its my opinion watch sizes are starting to get back to realistic sizes. Many people will appreciate a Tudor dive watch at this particular size. Very good on Tudor. I've always loved the BlackBay diver range of models but unfortunately been sized out even the 39mm being a bit to big but not anymore! 37mm is perfect for myself and I assume many others. Pure Class! Definitely one of if not my favorite dive watches available!
I was fortunate enough to come across one at my local AD and bought it right away. A few reasons.
1) This is the perfect compliment piece to my Omega SMP 300m which of course is strikingly modern and in a lot of ways “flashy.” The BB54 is an under the radar piece that is extremely refined.
2) It’s the perfect fit for my smaller wrist.
3)the T fit clasp it fantastic.
4) vintage submariner looks with modern movement and features imo make it a no brainer proposition.
Always consistently great reviews Teddy.
I only own 42mm watches, do I did not consider it at the beginning. But I'm so impressed with the look and feel abs how it grew on me, that even as a rather big guy, I love having this on my wrist
I got it 3 weeks ago and I consider it the perfect watch! Fits my wrist, is elegant and speoty same time, keeps amazing time. And all these positive thoughts comes from a person who initially said will never buy the poor men Rolex. Actually is the smart man Tudor, having its on personality, identity. Good job again on your review Teddy
I own a 58 Bronze and a 54. Love both, perfect team!
Love it. I tried both bracelet and rubber strap in May this year and prefer the rubber strap. I'd say it wear larger than its size.
I ordered this watch on release and almost 6 months later I finally have it on my wrist. I can honestly say it far exceeds all my expectations
This is an amazing watch and fits well in so many occasions
Love this video too 👍🏻
I have a 7¼" wrist and have always preferred having a speck of a watch on my wrist due to originally inheriting watches from my brother, Dad and uncle that measured anywhere from 31mm to 37mm. One quartz was 40mm (Reliance brand) and is accurate to within 1 second every 5-6 months or so.
I also have watches up to 44-46mm but I won't go any bigger.
I've decided 39mm is my perfect size, but still love those tiny specimens & will wear them until the day I die.
I have the 58 and the 54, both look great, worn for different occasions. They look excellent on either a red or yellow perlon strap.
Just bought this for my daughter who loves my 70’s rolex sub. It channels the vibe of that watch really well. Important to note that there are very few competitors. Breitling has the 38mm super ocean but that is not an inhouse movemment and comes in really modern colors. Tag has the aquaracer and rolex has the 38mm yachtmaster. None look as great as this and all are more expensive. Great buying and daughter loves it
Perfect size for a woman wanting a statement or sport watch. Quite dainty for a man.
I had to immediately buy myself a Tudor BB 54. My Grandpa wears a Rolex Datejust 36mm and has wrists like a bear. Still i think he pulls it off amazeingly. A 37mm Diver is just perfect for letting me feel that old school vintage vibe from the watch ma Grandpa wears. Its just really special to me! Plus i like to go out and train a lot. So my watch gets thrown around on my wrist a lot. Wouldnt want that to happen on a jubilee, so i think a Tudor Oyster is just amazeing. Although some people took a jubilee on this watch and i think it also looks amazeing.
This is basically the perfected version of the BB 58. Can't wait to pick it up in a few years
I own this watch it is my first dive watch and second Swiss watch. my wrists are on the smaller size and it fits perfectly. I let my friends try it on who have bigger wrists and it fits them perfectly. I’ve had no problems out of the watch in my three months of owning it. it definitely looks a lot like the 58 but I do prefer the more simplistic look of the 54.
Own a blue 58 and a 54. Love both. I put one on a rubber strap and one is on a bracelet. Basically two different wearing watches despite the similarities
Thank you Teddy, I was wondering why Tudor offers both the 54 and 58. Your video puts everything in perspective.
I traded my bb58 for this bb54, in the beginning i was worried i might regret it but man, i made the right choice 🎉 it has become my daily driver, i still own a silver58 925 which barely wear anymore and the new two tone jubilee gmt 2 that i sometimes wear on the weekends because i now feel its too big for my 6.5” wrist 😕. The 54 looks the best out of all the black bay lines imo with the perfect proportion. I have it on a hand made black alligator strap with the original t-fit clasp and end links, it looks great 👍
I have an 8" wrist and this looks so elegant on. Very bond looking indeed an absolute winner
58 all the way for me. I own it and had a chance to compare both on my wrist (7.04") and 58 has better propotions, and sits ideally on my wrist. 54 is a good looking watch and may be a great option (although I am not a fan of sunray dial here, in person its is highly pronounced) but if someone is on a crossroads I would highly reccomend to try them both, side by side and then decide.
Great video, guys!
While a 37mm watch may be too small for me, just the existence of this watch makes me want to get hands on with it in a boutique and add a Tudor to my collection even more someday
Great review. At this size and price point I'd look for a Seiko SJE093 (I'm an incurable Seiko fan). But if asked, I'd steer my 'normal' friends toward the Black Bay 54. At essentially the same MSRP as the SJE, the BB54 delivers a great watch on a premium bracelet without Seiko's trademark ambiguity regarding accuracy.
Great review Teddy. If I already didn’t have several dive watches I adore, I’d grab this one.
Excellent content, as always, Teddy. Any plans on doing a presentation of best chronos for 2023? After acquiring a Murph and a Tissot 1938 based on your excellent reviews and analyses, I think that is "what is next." Looking forward to more.
I was 4 months waiting at my AD and the day I payed this video came up.. My AD told me that he had one with a rubber strap and of course he didn’t know when he will have a next one (I wanted a bracelet but I will purchase it next and have both). I think it’s an all time one watch that you can wear everyday all day. Perfection at a lower price.
I really want to get a 54 - need to wait as I got a Ranger this year. Hoping the 54 comes out with a white dial, we'll see. Thanks for the great review.
I love what the 58 and 54 represent from a vintage standpoint and own both. Keepers both.
I love it! ❤ Small, lightweight with very accurate movement.
I like the bezel on this 54. It's much cleaner without the extra markings from 0 to 15.
Yes exactly!
True 👍
that's my sweet spot! Love the vintage look on a new piece.
Your are 100% right. I opted for the 54 ultimately because of the t-fit system and the vintage modern charme.
Edit: Opted for it instead of the 58
My best friend just bought this. Just loves smaller dive watches! Fits his wrist perfectly Moment he saw it he was just like I have to have it.
Love the size, I'd be open to this watch if I didn't already have it's larger brother.
However, I feel the gold 'vintage' dial seems to clash with the more modern looking bezel. The bb58 has gold in the bezel which ties in with the dial, the 54 seems to clash a bit for me. Though I've not seen it in person so it might look better in the flesh
Excellent review/analysis! One big difference between the 54 and 58 - the 54 has the T-fit clasp.
Was recently in a tudor AD and and narrowed it down between the Pelagos 39mm and the bb54. I ended up going with the pelagos simply because I already have a bb58 and I enjoyed the differences offered in the pelgos in small size.
Good decision. Both watches I want. Lol. You already had a BB.
Just bought a bb54 today, I’m over the moon and can’t stop looking at it.
As somebody with skinny wrists, I love my new BB36 with the gorgeous blue dial and can see the BB54 will be a divers watch I will have to own soon? Great video as usual Teddy. 👌
I’m someone who collects vintage watches (mostly 34-36mm Rolex and Omega) but I’ve moved to a hot, humid place so I can’t really wear them anymore.
So I wanted something modern and I was looking at a BB58 for a while until the BB54 came out and I was smitten.
I was finally able to get one on the secondary market (they are not really available in boutiques) and once I tried it it was love at first sight.
It feels just like my 1601 DJs or Jumbo Omegas, has a similar charm but with all the convenience of a modern watch. The 38mm Baltic dive watch that I bought recently feels really inferior and clumsy in comparison (granted the price is 6x less).
I've owned this watch now for a month. So far I've very pleased with my purchase. It is my first Tudor watch. Comparing it with my Submariner...it can definitely hold its own with better power reserve.
For me and my wife, the BB54 and BB58 will be a couple watch soon :)
perfect balance! Very similar to my sinn 556 and my 7.25 inch wrist. 40mm the max.
My everyday watch for 6 months now it hasn’t left my wrist
Will always click bb54 review, always.
saving up for this!!!🙌🏼♥️
Great review and fantastic quality!
I have both the B54 and the BB58. Both are great watches, but I feel that the case proportions, clean bezel insert and the black sunburst dial of the BB54 just makes it look a bit more special and refined. If you deciding between the BB54 and BB58 black, go for the BB54 as they wear very similar on the wrist. On the other hand, if you are looking for a blue diver, the BB58 is unbeatable.
I agree.
I also have both and could not agree more. Cannot get rid of my 58 yet, tho…
The sizing is perfect as is much of the watch. The lack of a half link is my biggest gripe - the Uncle Seiko half link should allow for a perfect fit.
This watch is for anyone who loved the first five Bond films.
I own the 54 on rubber strap its a exquisite beautifully designed vintage timepiece, tudor have nailed it with the modern take of the 1954 original, this model actually raises the bar to already extreme high standards of the black bay range, imo with the pelagos 39 the 54 is tudors best.
I own a 90s Tudor Sub that looks very much like a 60s Rolex Sub. It’s my weekend watch, but I still very much want a BB 54. I do hope they expand on the colors, as I don’t love the faux gilt. As someone of the “small wrist committee” mid-size watches are my jam.
buying one of these now, with both strap versions. Having to order rubber strap seperetely for £550 (450 clasp and 100 for strap). 6-8 weeks delivery time for the extra strap
Nice watch , as always, a solid video. As for me , I still love rockin' mt BB smiley face Black. Thinner with a better bracelet.
As a woman, this trend towards slightly smaller watches is fantastic! I'm really keen to try this one on.
This size makes a ton of sense for a woman. It’s essentially a woman’s watch.
I saw one today in Paris and I loved it. I want one!
I own a BB58 and it has been my favorite ever since I got it. If they’d release a 54 in a green Bezel. I’ll probably get another Tudor.
I have the .925 BB58, I love the BB54 & want one but can’t justify the additional, hefty purchase. But a silver bracelet for my 925BB58, now that’s a different story.
I own this watch and absolutely love it.
I don't care it is neo - vintage watch which is revival of rolex/tudor submariner. It just fit on my wrist, has a good movement, goodlooking, thin and wearable. It is perfect for me. And It will also perfect for who have thin wirst or love vintage watches 👍🏻 10/10
I got it with rubber band. It’s an amazing watch. Can’t stop looking at it.
I have the 39mm bb58 and love it. I don’t see the need for a 37mm version. The watch is so beautiful that decreeing it’s size takes away from it’s esthetics. I have a 6-5/8” wrist and the bb58 is perfect.
This is a beautiful watch! I love the fact that they are homaging the 1954 Tudor. Having said that, the watch is just a little too small for me.
Although I'm not a fan of gilt dials and hands, I think this is a lovely piece.
Dunno if the BB58 bezel is a 60 click, but the 54 definitely is, and that’s important. I thought I would find a 60 click less useful/accurate when positioning it. In practice though, I find I prefer the 60 click over the more usual 120; it makes me less fussy and more “fuzzy” about timings. Also the bezel “milling” is much smoother on the outside than the BB58. So it feels nicer to me. I decided not to buy a BB58 solely due to the very sharp, rasp-like feel of the bezel. The BB54 solves that, and now it’s been constantly on my wrist for several months. It’s a complete beaut!
I wear the 58 on a nato (Erika's original Connery) as couldn't get the bracelet comfortable and wear the 54 on it's superb bracelet. The 58 is my go to swimming watch. I wear the 54 as a daily beater and I find myself preferring to wear it over my submariner 😯
The only negative is the bracelet is a bit sharp on the outside edges and can irritate the wrist sometimes, I may try to smooth this. The sub is much smoother of course and higher quality, but the 54 has a je ne sais quoi! 😍
Recently I am wondering if I should have got the 41 with the burgundy bezel, but when I originally saw the 54 I was excited by it's size and vintage aesthetic and had to have it even after trying both. I think the smaller size at the time was an easy transition for me as I had recently got a Zenith Defy revival with the 37 mm case. My wrist is 18 cm (7 inches), so usually 39 to 42 is ideal for me.
I prefer this over the BB 58 with the guilded markers and the red triangle. i like the simpler design of this one better and would choose it over the 58, if I was looking for the vintage look of the black/guild color combo. I'm expecting them to come out with further color variant of the 54 though. Will be interesting to see if they do a blue version and how it differs from the blue 58.
The 58 also has a dull matt grey dial, the 54 is more black and glossy
It's a subdue sunburst, meaning you can't really see it glimmer without it being in direct light. Most people think the 54's dial is better, including me. Nothing wrong with a matte dial, but the 54's dial is beautiful. @@simon0044
Absolutely adore mine
My fav of the bunch
A possible huge advantage for the 54: the quick adjust bracelet allows significant others to join in on the fun!
I had the chance to handle and buy this watch early on. I own the bb58 in black and guild, yet the new watch made a lasting impression. Namely, the additional thinness, simpler bezel, and smaller crown give it a different, more elegant feel. It certainly feels like a time capsule to the past. Ultimately, I passed bc I’m already attached to my BB58 and my experiences in it. Plus, the 58 has a touch of red. If I didn’t already have a black bay 58, the 54 would be perfect for my under 7” wrist.
Teddy, if it were available in more colors, how much cross shopping would you foresee between the bb54 and the bb 36mm?
FINALLY THANK YOU TUDOR !
I am so tempted because it's homaging the very first Rolex Sub and I think that is extremely cool. But I need to see it in the flesh first and try it on.
Love it on the rubber.
Best description I’ve read is that the 58 (gilt version) feels like a new diver designed to mimic the vintage styling, while the 54 feels like an actual vintage diver. Btw when you handle the 54 it feels too small, but when you actually wear it, this goes away.
Everyone was asking for a vintage sub Mr. Teddy Ball de sack
I’ve seen comments in the past few years asking for this LOL. Maybe not in 37mm but definitely that aesthetic.
I'd love to try one of these on. I have tiny wrists and and my favorite watches are around 37mm. But when I tried another 36mm dive watch, it looked way too small and I ended up going with 40mm. I just don't know if a dive watch specifically should be this small on anyone, but I'd love to be proven wrong!
I just hope Tudor would listen to us one more time, and add GMT and more styles to the BB54. I like the red triangle on the BB58 bezel, and I would love to see that in the BB54.
