I love this girl. She's the daughter of an important Spanish jazz musician and educator (Jaume Vilaseca) and it shows. She has great technique and great knowledge of the classics. Wonderful musicianship too, she composes and plays the piano. We'll hear much more of her for sure.
Thanks for the context. She sings so naturally. Early musical upbringing must have helped that develop.
@yoyo olivarez Vilaseca is from barcelona
Thanks for your info. Indeed she has a good singing and breathing (while singing) technique. Doesn't look like she's out of breath.... although this is a difficult song!
I'm Brazilian, her accent (though noticeable) is very good for a foreigner.
The most pretty scat singing I’ve ever heard all with a contagious smile.
It is Portuguese
Mar's is a fox, and man can she sing! One of the prettiest smiles I've ever seen. A beautiful smile.
Scat is not a language @@yalta5060
Mar’s voice was angelic on this one. And I loved the guitar solo and piano stylings from emmet. Listening to this felt like a religious experience!
She got the perfect voice for Jobim! She sounds like a vintage flugelhorn. Brilliant!
That bass solo...what a killer! Rusell Hall is genius.
He's a great bass player, but unfortunately the instrument doesn't lend itself that well to soloing in my humble opinion.
Mr. Silberstein, the guitarist, delivers an astounding array of musical quotes. The "Without a Song" quote at the beginning of the C part is so clever, it made me laugh out loud. There are several other quotes I recognized but couldn't quite catch, all of them woven seamlessly into a spectacular solo. Wow.
And he also quoted Mr PC as well just before he quoted Without a song..
@@oskarfield8696 Yes!!! Nice catch!
Along with the entire horn break in the Jobim version of this song!
@@thomasgrady3103 Ah! You're right! Damn, this is a well-studied musician.
What the hell man. The bass player is out of this world! One of the very best today for sure and I didnt even know him before this.
That bass solo! Awesome as always you all sounded extra amazing on this tune
best bass player around today
Man I'm completely in love with bossa nova!
If I'm ever feeling low then I am often inclined to tune in to Emmet Cohen's jazz where, within a few minutes I'm restored to a mellow and relaxed state. This session is a fine example of restorative, healing music on the first order. My thanks.
1:59 Without a Song!
Emmet always brings a perfect combination of musicians and feel. Mar’s voice and scat was so on point for this!
i have listened to this like 80 times
Does Hall have perfect pitch? Or just incredible relative. It is so beyond impressive that he's singing out his bass solo, and nailing every pitch including all the jumps and fast runs.
I think it's called audiation
All great improvisers have some sort of ability to sing along to their solos because eventually what they are playing on their instrument they are hearing inside their head first, or at the same time.
He does have perfect pitch. They mentioned it during on of their interviews.
he and emmet both
He does have perfect pitch but him singing along with his solo isn't really evidence.
I'm not really sure if it's a bassist thing because I'm not a bassist, but a lot of bassists I've seen sing/scat along with their solos, including the guy in my collegiate jazz ensemble (we are terrible) and I know he doesn't have perfect pitch.
I think it's kinda just an improv thing in that soloists know what they're going to play as they play it. If my lips weren't busy playing (trumpet) I think I could probably hum along with my improv.
The bass go crazyyyy!!!
aqui tb amigo !
Loved that bass
Her soft cute but really jazzy voice sounds great.
I had the pleasure to know Mar when she was begining her musical career and she was already a very talented singer. However, I would have never expected to see her come this far in so little time. My best congratulations for her!!! Enhorabona, Mar!!!
The human voice is of course a continuous pitch instrument, like a theremin. Mar Vilaseca can turn it at will into a near discrete pitch instrument, like a piano, as she does in the intro. Fabulous intonation and bell-like articulation.
Wow her voice is so on pitch! It’s amazing!
Her voice is heavenly 😍😍
Yotam gets it. He's right on target with that solo.
Citation Without a song is amazing ❤
Mar Vilaseca; Yotam Silberstein; Emmet Cohen; Russell Hall; Winard Harper - you are all beautiful - how wonderfffful!
Vai, minha tristeza
E diz a ele que sem ele não pode ser
Diz-lhe numa prece
Apertado assim, colado assim, calado assim
Apertado assim, colado assim, calado assim
Wowwww ❤
Just the best jazz anywhere…..❤
The momemnt i heard her tone, i immediately clicked the like button. She was just so mesmerizing. These musicians as well are amazing in their own way. I wish I could someday play like these guys.
Eternal gratitude to Tom and Vinicius for gifting this adventurous inventive masterpiece to us 67 years ago. Few ensembles have styled it such deft, love, spirit, and joyful abandon. Stunning ✨
Best rendition of Chega de Saudade ever!
the guitarist is so excellent and interesting and a "without a song " quote
Word!
Yes!
Beautiful Emmet. Please can you get Joel Frahm to play with you guys on one of your streaming sessions… 🙏
I just discovered Emmet and "his friends" tonight...I'm blown away by the talent he has found with which to perform. Great music. Mazel tov. Thanks for keeping "real" jazz alive.
Everybody shining on this - a joy to listen to this evening
Wow that’s not an easy chart and they just eat it up like it was nothing These are a special group of musicians
We are so lucky to be able to listen to them. Vilaseca is perfect fit for this group .It takes a special talent to hang with this group and she is absolutely perfection. These musicians are the best of the best in the world.
And the pianist... Emmet Cohen! Incredible! Excellent jamming, guys! Cheers!
Uauu!! Beautiful voice!! Congratulations! 😍
I’m Brazilian and I loved your version of classic Brazilian’s song “Chega de Saudade”.
Excellent singer. Seems perfectly authentic. Jobim can be satisfied.
Outstanding solos by guitar & bass. Impressive togetherness by all.
this was my audition tune that i fell in love in singing it.... always love to hear other signers sing. thank you !
I love this girl. Her voice is sooooo smooth!!!
Indeed bro.
i cannot get over how incredibly good this is
É bossa nova! É Brasil! 💚💛💚💛
Extra ! Excellente chanteuse de bossa ! Excellent timbre de voix !👍👍👍👍🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷👍👍🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷excellents musiciens !
rhythm at 1:02 gave me goosebumps
also el lick a las 3:03
The rhythm at 1:02 is, I believe, a form of Partido Alto. I've heard a lot of cats play this same rhythm at this same part of the song (the "D Section" if we call the form ABCD). I don't know what the historical precedent is (i.e., who did it first), but it's not part of the original J. Gilberto nor Jobim recordings of this song. Many times it's hinted at, such as in Eliane Elias' versions, but not played as clearly as it is here.
@@FrictionFive Oh, interesting! I had no idea it had become somethnig common
@@bluemonk9480 Yep, it's definitely "a thing" these days!
Bossa Nova from Brazil ❤
these people ooze intelligent musicality and swag...a real treat...no ego..just pure listening to each other!!
Great band! and the singer, Mar Vilaseca has a beautiful voice and speaks portuguese very fluently. Congrats!
This is a great rendition of a classic tune by the whole group. Very enjoyable! The guitar solo is so good, in part, because it quotes the first 16 bars of Eliane Elias' solo on her 2008 Bossa Nova Stories album. Who better to quote than her!
Wish Diz had lived to hear this version. RIP DIz.
actually, Eliane Elias quoted the original solo from Tom Jobim, so the guitar solo could more rightly be said to be quoting the original recording by Jobim!
So effortlessly chill
So good
I keep coming back to this version and I love everything about it. I'm walking drunk in a beautiful neighbourhood after a wonderful party, life is beautiful and this performance is the cherry on top. Love you guys, thanks so much!
Flowing like a river of pure gold. Emmet in his coolest groove yet. Maravilhoso!
Great voice, Great Group, what more could you ask for !!!!
Viva o Mestre, Viva a Cantora, Viva a Musica.
This are the most expressive solis ive ever Heard - chapeau
Great performance everyone all around. You can't lose w Jobim and you can't lose with the ( no more ) blues and you can't lose w Emmet and company!
Simply beautiful! Mar's vocals are a delight. Emmet always brings some of the best content out there. Can't give this enough likes.
That really elevates my chi ! There is still maybe hope for humanity!
Nope.
Russell Hall, one of maybe three jazz bassists I can enjoy listening to since the beginnings of Jazz. Emmet, as ever; Wow can you play! Mar's does a fine job. Where's Poole or Saylor on drums? Harper cooks, but Poole or Saylor match my taste in drumming style.
Um abraço do Brasil!
A hug from Brazil!
The bass solo was absolute art
Russell Hall - astounding! wow! - I can't get over this piece; it is just riveting. Thanks.
Yotam Silberstein - Guitar; rhythmically and melodically brilliant, and, swinging with such a groove; and, uplifting; wow! thanks. Best wishes to all.
Emmet - stunning! such an uplifting piece; and, the way you provide a pivot for the togetherness for the whole session, which, is the same for all of the sessions, which, is astoundingly brilliant -wow!
Out of this world talent on display here.
Yotam Silberstein - I love the way you come-in; wow! I am hooked on this peice; and, your riff's which, emanate sense of the groove; stunning! The whole piece - brilliant!
Wow!! Another amazing jam "emme nating" from Emmet`s Lounge. All of you were superb. Greatly enjoyed this lively piece of Latino. Thank you!!
💯 - especially for that fantastic pun!
I found this yesterday and I've had to have listened to it at least 14 times already
Everybody's good in this ensemble. The singer has a lovely voice and scats with ease and right on the pitch. Also, the pianist comps tastefully and gets a very lovely tone! Kudos! I with they'd let the drummer solo!
Beautiful !!
What a pleasure to listen!
Beautiful!

What’s not to like? Harper’s drumming was marvellous. And that guitar solo was a gem. Fabulous fun and musicianship from everyone. Jazz is fun again.
Fabulous! By far the best interpretation of Chega de Saudade, ....ever! Every one of these musicians is "creme de la creme" in the world of Jazz, I hope they perform in Florida,
