“Doubts herself” and “stumbles” alone would’ve made the sequels so much better
From what I gather, this was supposed to be a fallout of Rey learning her lineage wasn’t anything special. Which indicates that there was some plot threads linking TLJ and Duel of the Fates, contrary to internet opinion. I just wonder how much Last Jedi’s backlash changed that aspect specifically.
@@benwasserman8223 I think It's more out of death of Carrie. In Trevorrow's vision Leia was more and important

@@cinemagraphymahivara2000There were some other reasons (though that was a big one). The studio didn't want such a gritty ending and wanted something more heroic and upbeat like Return of the Jedi. The biggest critique of the script seems to be edgy Rey.
@@benwasserman8223The original plan (according to this script) was that Kylo killed Rey's parents and made up the "sold for drinking money" story to cover it up. That actually lines up with episode 7, where Kylo seems to know who Rey is and how he appears in Rey's vision.
We always knew that if Kylo ever actually wanted to kill Rey she would be dead in the matter of seconds...in TROS the guy doesn’t even ignite his saber when she first starts swinging at him...he literally just indulges her in that duel, putting like 20% effort into it and still beats her...
Or or or, it’s just Disney being a bunch of feminists really. We all knew after she beat him in TFA that she would 100% be a mary-sue, I washed my hands off that movie right about when Solo got the worst exit ever

Idk given how much the internet clamors for Rey to undergo some physical setbacks, maybe a scene like this was needed to fuel her ability to overcome self-doubt.

Idk. DOTF seems cool but it also has so much garbage in. TROS is far better, imo, for all the characters and the story in general.

We would have to also present an alternative with what to do about Leia, we can't dishonor Carrie Fisher by simply recasting or deepfaking her image onto another actress, so some of the story would have to be reworked. Probably want to include Anakin's Force Ghost as a means to work around some of that.

Duel of the Fates is incredible, I’m glad the script and concept art was leaked. At least we know about this great story.
Do you really think a Star Wars film would contain someone crying blood? Bearing in mind that 10 year olds are a large part of the audience? This is graphic fan fiction at best. Star Wars has jar jar binks, it’s not a horror film🤣

I guess it would be a bit graphic, but Star Wars has also had the calculated murder of a group of warrior monks, and the murder of children. All in the same movie. Star Wars has been dark before. Plus there’s beasts like the Rancor and Acklay.
Rogue One was also a literal WAR film, and kids can watch that

@@kylemajerczyk8160 Yeah I get how Star Wars has, in multiple instances, been dark, but the whole "crying blood" thing might have been a bit to extreme. Seems like something you would see in a rated-R film.
@@Del-Dokan There have been many PG-13 films that should've been rated R. I mean heck, ANH which I believe was PG had a severed bloody arm and all they had to show was blood coming out from around her hands covering her face.
@@Elphin89 A fanfiction is a dead old man slouching for thirty years raising thousands of star destroyers out from the ground after designing a dagger to correspond with deteioriating debris. Actually that is disgraceful to good fanfics out there.
Ooof giving Rey the Kanan treatment. That certainly would have made for an interesting obstacle. Did the script say how she’d learn to see through the Force, like what Bendu taught Kanan?

Absolutely. TROS is far better.
@@robynsun_love (especially the climax of tros) was really unique, this would’ve just been another repeat of all of Rey’s and Kylo Ren’s confrontations, but the plot twist and finally turning him back to the light and Palpatine was really unique.

A mix between the story and plot of the duel of the fates and kylos arc in tros would have been the perfect ending to the skywalker saga
Man even by star wars standards, this is dark
I like aspects of TROS for what it is and the same goes for the DOTF script, but no matter what Episode 9 we got, I don't think it could've possibly properly concluded the Saga.
The original trilogy was a hero's myth with a world built around it to suit that hero's journey. But then people fell even more in love with that universe than the myth itself, and it expanded beyond it, with the original EU. And then while the prequels were largely an expansion and recontexualization of the original myth, they were mostly an expansion of the universe with the world becoming more of its own allegorical entity outside of the mythic story. Clone wars and other media continued this for a long time straying further and further from the original myth of Luke Skywalker. Then, when Disney retconned the EU and announced the sequels, they were saying that they weren't just expanding on the universe, but they would both continue and conclude the myth. But how do you end something that's already been concluded?
So unlike things such as the Thrawn Trilogy and beyond from the EU which was a new story separate from the myth, this had a lot more baggage. Force Awakens tried to be the start of a new myth whilst retroactively continuing the old, but it just didn't work. It felt like it undermined the previous story and in a strange accidental way, began a meta narrative about the franchise itself. That's not a myth. That's a commentary and allegory. So, the last Jedi played into that far more and became a complete deconstruction and recontexualization of the original text. And while I personally really like TLJ, the problem is that there's no where to go (thematically) after it. Everything has been brought to its thematic conclusion. So episode 9 had to either just basically say the same thing and conclude the plot, or it had to be more independent with its own new themes and conflicts, not really being the conclusion to a Trilogy or the saga. Both TROS and DOTF seemed to try and walk the line between both, and failed.
But the future of Star Wars looks bright, because now they can finally detach from the original myth and just use the universe as a sandbox for new stories like the EU. The Mandalorian is a great example of this.
Somewhat agree, though don’t believe we can judge the DOF the same as we would TROS since only 1 movie was made. Also while both episode 9s leave the “saga” in the same place as six (the fall of oppression, the empire/order), DOF feels a lot more like it’s own thing while TROS tries to pander, with bens redemption, Rey palpatine, palpatines return, etc. TROS focuses on the state of the galaxy and the “setting” etc while duel of fates focuses more on the characters, especially Rey. But that is just my opinion. It feels like the TROS is one of those “end of the world” scenarios while DOF is “win the war and be done with it.”

That is one of the most powerful scenes in Star Wars. Nice to know Rise of Plotholes ruined it, Dual of the Fates is canon for me. Please keep making these, maybe one day you'll get most of the script complete.

@@allisenergy.5986 A) She is not a Mary Sue. B) Getting blinded, or any physical bodily mutilation, is not necessary to not be a Mary Sue.
Or maybe it’s because it’s trash and throws away all the character development for Rey and Kylo in TFA and TLJ.
@@ReySkywalker2 On the contrary, there’s some development for Kylo Ren in TLJ but I feel that Rey got very little to do in that film and was underwritten as a result.

While it wouldn’t fix a whole lot of nonsense that TFA and TLJ had brought for undoing the accomplishments the heroes had made, it would have been a better outcome by a margin than we got in the final release.

Least it had no Palpatine in mind, but yeah, a new location would have been far better.
This script and story was better in ways then what we got but man that kylo and rey connection through the 3 movies we got was too good to pass on. This kinda throws that away and I don't like that.
