The nice thing about the Rogers Centre is the team's owner (Rogers Communications) also owns the ballpark, so they pay the whole shot for any renovations they wish to have. No need for a see-through roof. The existing retractable roof still works well even though it was the first one built in North America way back in the late 1980s. Pretty remarkable as usually the first time something that advanced is done, the more likely they'll be future problems with it with no easy fix.
See-through roof was not realistic. It was a cool idea but not feasibile. They tested the idea and it would have turned Rogers Centre into a 40 C degree humid greenhouse with tons of moisture coming off the grass. Rogers Centre does not have adequate outdoor stadium type adequate drainage as it is not a true "outdoor" stadium.

Exactly! I was so thrown off when they announced the name switch. The fact that they didn't just call it the Rogers Skydome is just idiotic. Skydome is an iconic name
The problem with putting a see through roof is the CN tower is next to it and occasionally in the winter ice forms on the tower and when it warms up pieces of ice will fall off of it and in the past the roof of Rogers Centre has been damaged
My main complaint with most new stadiums is the tendency to build walls around the fancy seats so those people can be protected from the commoners. I understand the reason, I just think it is a bad look (I'm mainly thinking of you, Yankee Stadium.)
I’ve went to the last 2 games I find it absolutely beautiful don’t know why people have to hate this is the best rogers centre has ever looked it’s simply amazing
SkyDome was originally built to accommodate both football and baseball. The goal was to be the home of the Toronto Blue Jays but also to attract an NFL team to Toronto. The sight lines are oriented for football. If you sat along the foul lines in left and right field, you had to turn your head to the side towards home plate. Now all seats in level 100 face home plate.
Went to the home opener, love the staudim except for down the lines is incredibly hard to see for a lot of the seats due to the how high and close the walls are to the foul lines. any ball in the corner or off the wall you wont see. for TV i actually like the back drop, except they could zoom in a bit during the games
Not sure what he meant by "it technically was a multipurpose stadium". Not technically, it WAS built (and used) as a multipurpose stadium. And yeah, the Argos would play actual games, and have actual fans in the seats, and they did that for an actual very long time.
Also, Rogers Centre "Skydome" hosted 18 CFL games per year, plus playoffs in years when the Argos qualified, plus multiple grey cups, from 1989 to 2019. So, yes it was a truly multipurpose stadium. They demolished the entire lower bowl to reorient the seating for baseball and built permanent bull pens and dugouts and player spaces now that the Argos play at BMO field, and the Jays & MLB are the only sport at Rogers Centre.
@@ariea.devalois1564 the number of games they played there wasn't really the important part of your comment. All u were trying to convey is the stadium had a full time tenant which was a football team.

Unfortunately nearly every stadium has those ads behind the plate so that they will be seen on the TV broadcasts... Most of the fans sitting in the grand stand around the infield don't see those ads...
I live in cleveland and have been to countless indians/guardians games at progressive field. Obviously it's home to me and I am happy with the renovations so far, but there are some questionable decisions. The standing room area above right field (we were informed on opening day by an attendant) won't have any concessions or even be open every game to the general public as it will be closed for private events as it was on opening day. We walked over to check it out and it was blocked off with signs. I heard people complaining about how Colorado did it better and they did, but they also draw more every game to warrant something like that. Does ours look cheap in comparison? Yeah, but not enough of us go (we can talk about the dolans all day) to have something like Colorados rooftop bar open year round. They did get rid of 90% of the kids area though and that bummed us out. When we bring the kids, they love that area and it's a great vantage point to see the game as well as let the kids do baseball oriented skill stuff. No idea why they did that. The blue seats and fresh paint were nice. Next to the faded green seats and old concrete, not so much.....but in typical cleveland fashion.....here's looking to next year.
At least people in Cleveland can watch games played in cool weather. Tigers games it always warm and sunny so umpires wear short sleeve black shirts. And if weather is cooler, like it is today, it gets postponed. Tigers won't play Friday night either. Chris Ilitch is 🗑.
Haven’t seen it live yet but the entire Reno looks totally amazing. The backdrop does need to be tweaked and for sure they show.d have worked with the hotel to address that. All in all it looks like a new stadium.
The only complaints (if any) that I’ve heard was about the food and how there was some shortage of some of the menu options. Yes, that’s it lol. The new renovations look awesome and I can’t wait to attend soon.
This Rogers Centre, is now just a big board for advertisements. Too many TD logos behind homeplate and it green classes so much with the grey/navy it is rough on the eyes. TD all over the place, it is too much. The grey "faux" brick looks cheap and was only put in place so they can blast greenscreen ad overlays nonstop. The renos showed lots of promise until you realize it was done just to spam ads and squeeze more money from premium offerings. It is a business, of course. But, there should be some balance and tact. Also, so much Navy reminds me of Yankee Stadium. You look at Wrigley Field and Fenway where they find clever ways to put in ads that don't clash too much with the stadium.
If there's a reason why they renovated the Rogers center there is absolutely no where to put a new stadium the only way they can build a new stadium literally by tearing down the Rogers center and rebuilding on that spot the right in the middle of downtown Toronto they don't get more center than they are so I don't see the stadium going anywhere in 20 years probably another Reno will come along
Overall it’s a great upgrade. If a new park isn’t coming anytime soon you have to spend money to upgrade. They did it and it’s well done. Also not many are complaining that’s clickbait that you’re showing and Twitter bots.
Interesting video, but I'm curious to know what basis of facts you have to say the Jays will need to abandon the stadium in a few decades. I know nothing about architecture, but when I attend a game I sometimes take note of the concrete foundation and how solid it looks. Also, you suggested the translucent roof, which sounds like a great idea. All that combined with the fact the stadium is located smack dab in the heart of downtown Toronto makes it an awesome ballpark.
That will never happen, but it also doesn’t matter… the new turf plays very similar to grass. It’s not the turf we saw in the Donaldson era where a ball could one hop into the outfield seats.
@@samelmudir Yeah it's Canada, they can't grow grass there. LOL No seriously, there is no drainage for water so adding grass is really an impossibility. They would need to build a new stadium to grow real grass.

I agree that people will get used to the home plate backstop at Rogers Centre. It threw me a bit, but it's just weird after looking at the old backstop for so many years. I'm happy the team opted to get their money's worth out of the new stadium rather than waste billions on a new stadium. The location of Rogers Centre can't be beat.

Great work but minor complaint. MLB and the Yankees do not trace back to the defunct Orioles team and the founding date is set at 1903 which makes the original logo the Highlanders.
Progressive Field is beyond awful. You can't see the playing field from those upper deck patios, unless you're on the rail. Far too much standing room. The right field deck is only for group outings, so its not going to be accessible most of the time. The blue seats are hideous. The green seats match the wall and the dugout and backstop. It is good to see the shipping crates gone. No one ever used those. Overall the park has been ruined.
The folks complaining about the backdrop aren’t even real fans. The first article that came out and sparked the complaining was BlogTO, who’s main reader base certainly isn’t anyone who’s opinion matters when it comes to anything sports related.
I really like what they did in Toronto. I wish they'd change the name though. Rogers Centre sounds like an arena, not a stadium. Rogers Park is better.
That's a good point. And Rogers Park sounds better too. Only thing I can think of is they are worried about the perception of hosting other events there.
The renovations offend my sense of equity because they had to evict the Argonauts to do it. And they wouldn't have Rogers Centre if it weren't for the Argonauts.
@@brothaman007 I can't remember myself, but in my mind, i kind of thought the Argos got the boot too. i recall they had a hard time convincing the soccer team to let them share their stadium, and I thought that negotiation for BMO field was going on AFTER they got their walking papers from skydome.
whaaa boohoo "I don't like how it looks behind the plate on TV". Let's be real this is a great renovation. So what if it looks weird on TV behind the plate, nobody actually at the game is complaining lol so dumb

As a Cleveland, whatever they want to name themselves, we legit don't have hope in our baseball team cause, unlike the Caves or Browns, we know they will never win. Watching the minor league teams is more fun.
I really don't like the way it looks on TV. "SNL set" is a perfect description. Seeing 50 people sitting in recliners behind home plate looks ridiculous.
Agree on the bad looking backstop and wall behind the luxury seats. Should've added more rows of seating behind the plate (just regular seats if not the big cushioned seats) and then a solid dark blue bowed wall (if needed) behind that so you only see fans behind the plate from the centerfield camera and the wall which would be out of view just separates the luxury seats from the rest of the seats.
I've never been to the Rogers Centre but it looks so beautiful! I'm not sure what all the fuss is about with Toronto fans but man that looks great. Love the color scheme as well! I do agree with the background behind home plate. Looks too simple and quiet honestly like a fake movie set. I also completely despise the large advertisement at the back stop. It's WAY TOO bright and I can see it being a major distrcation to viewers and players. Especially pitches trying to track that ball.

they reduced concessions prices across the board no? everything under ten bucks
Should have made the seats red behind home plate
The area behind home plate with the advertisement across the whole thing is absolutely horrendous. Damn sick of the advertising
Why not have real dirt on the warning tracks all around the stadium????
That guardians banner looks so bad. I wonder if they changed the colors of the walls to that dark blue to match the new seats how that would look
It looks like a video game mlb the show
The folks complaining about the backdrop aren’t even real fans.
They did not evict them. The argos left because the dome feels too big and the curvature of the seats has the fans a mile away.
@@brothaman007 I can't remember myself, but in my mind, i kind of thought the Argos got the boot too. i recall they had a hard time convincing the soccer team to let them share their stadium, and I thought that negotiation for BMO field was going on AFTER they got their walking papers from skydome.
@@wadexyz No sir. not kicked out. They did have problems getting into BMO, and they were looking at a few other options as well.
Are fan ever happy? That’s the real question
whaaa boohoo "I don't like how it looks behind the plate on TV". Let's be real this is a great renovation. So what if it looks weird on TV behind the plate, nobody actually at the game is complaining lol so dumb
The first headline is blogTO they always have ridiculous clickbait headlines.
This is a rag article. The majority of the citt likes it.
The people complaining are the folks that are complaining about the virtual ads we see on TV. They are not there at the stadium..... so who cares? Dude.... please research this stuff more. BTW..... it was also the Raptors home as well.
You forgot to talk about the jays foul territory got smaller
thats a GOOD thing
The new backstop sucks, it’s brutal to look at on tv, like looking at a td bank waiting room
As a Cleveland, whatever they want to name themselves, we legit don't have hope in our baseball team cause, unlike the Caves or Browns, we know they will never win. Watching the minor league teams is more fun.
I love the renos... i just dont ljke the advertisements behind the plate
I really don't like the way it looks on TV. "SNL set" is a perfect description. Seeing 50 people sitting in recliners behind home plate looks ridiculous.
Well they are Canadians🤷🏽♂️
I don't react well to change.
@:50 that not how it looks, the colours are fucked in that image
Those are super imposed advertisements it is black or grey brick in real life
who gives a shat what color Clevelands seats are for one year - you wont see it during most games anyways
Would it make sense for the Guardians to put red seats in the upper deck?
I'm sorry. But a $500,000,000 renovation should last 50 years, not 15.
3:03 not a fan of black seats
Does color actually matter?
@@ronclark9724 no but doesn't go with team colors
@@ronclark9724to a lot of people actually
That back drop is terrible to watch on tv
Agree on the bad looking backstop and wall behind the luxury seats. Should've added more rows of seating behind the plate (just regular seats if not the big cushioned seats) and then a solid dark blue bowed wall (if needed) behind that so you only see fans behind the plate from the centerfield camera and the wall which would be out of view just separates the luxury seats from the rest of the seats.
Ok hunny
The Angels need to renovate the stadium by starting to replace all of the green seats to all bright red seats
I would like your videos more he took that damn clothes pin off his nose
I've never been to the Rogers Centre but it looks so beautiful! I'm not sure what all the fuss is about with Toronto fans but man that looks great. Love the color scheme as well! I do agree with the background behind home plate. Looks too simple and quiet honestly like a fake movie set. I also completely despise the large advertisement at the back stop. It's WAY TOO bright and I can see it being a major distrcation to viewers and players. Especially pitches trying to track that ball.
You only see the ads on TV. Live it's just a brick wall
@@kevincanning3051 oh snap. I didn’t realize that! Thank you for the heads up
I’m pretty sure it’s an actual screen
Toronto fans will complain about everything but most think the new reno is fine. People just hate change
The area behind the plate is ugly as hell. The wall, in particular, is too tall and looks like a cheap kitchen backsplash.
