    Thank you once again Andy. I'm working on a 248 that a friend found for free on the side of the road - so sad. @@andytubesewing1953 Hi Andy, I didn't use the screwdriver to hold the stitch regulator when I took out the dial (Per GUFER's directions) and I think my feed regulator spring has come undone or something else is resulting in my machine only making tiny stitches. Can you help me know if the spring is not correct or what else I can do? I'm just not understanding if the long end of the spring should just hang down or where it should be attached. I'm not getting much adjustment from the concentric screws in the bottom of the machine. Bill

    Thanks Andy,
    I just ordered the top gear and belts for my 413 today so this video is right on time and much appreciated.
    I also bought another Machine yesterday, A Dressmaker Deluxe from late 40's to early 50's
    It's a Japanese clone of the Singer 15-91,
    It's an absolutely beautiful metallic blue machine in great condition.
    I ordered all the wiring and rubber for it today as well, and should be like a new machine when done.
    I bought it from a guy that his grandma bought new, handed it down to his mom, which handed it down to him, and his wife doesn't want to sew so he put it up for sale.
    I'm actually very excited about it, it shows no wear in the paint or decals and has no rust anywhere and turns over wonderfully.
    The wiring is cracked from age and the bobbin winder tire hard as a rock, otherwise can't see anything wrong with it.
    I've read some good reviews that state it's an even better machine than the 15-91 Singer.
    Guess we will see in a week or two when I get the parts on her.

    Very good video and easy to understand but my Singer model is CG 500. The pulley on the bottom of the machine has no screw to loosen to adjust the timing.

    • @andytubesewing1953
      @andytubesewing1953  4 года назад +1

      Model CG 500 was made in Brazil about 15 years ago, which makes it about 30 years too new for me. I do not know if you set the timing on it the same way as this model 413, but the parts list for CG 500 shows a set screw on the pulley. It is in the area the belt rides, so you need to rotate the pulley until you see the screw under the belt from what the parts list is showing. You can find a copy of the Service Manual here, where you can join for free: www.scribd.com/document/319490760/Singer-Cg500-550-590-Service-Manual It should show the correct method for setting the timing on the CG 500. It is very hard to find service manual usually, so you're lucky someone put it on the document exchange.

      @andytubesewing1953  4 года назад

      Starting at 20:40 in this video I explain that area of the machine: ruclips.net/video/ULaBoDecxAU/видео.html
      If the hook is not rotating you most likely have a broken plastic gear on the top of the vertical shaft. That is very common with a few models including the 413.
      I made a video showing how to replace that gear and it has 45K views which shows how common the problem is. The new gear cost about $10. Take a look at the video and see if this may be your problem: ruclips.net/video/M3bFtlV1Y6s/видео.html

    • @andytubesewing1953
      @andytubesewing1953  4 года назад

      Sorry to tell you that the top gear of the vertical shaft has broken. It mates with a gear on the handwheel main arm shaft but b/c it is broken it can't turn that shaft and pulley no you do not have hook rotation. It's a very common problem on a few models of that decade. You can buy a new gear for $10 and I have a video about replacing it that can help: ruclips.net/video/M3bFtlV1Y6s/видео.html I have heard from some viewers that the 413/416 is a little different for getting the gear in and out. If you need more help, Terry Fielding has a guide he wrote for your model. I have not seen the guide but have used some others of his with good results. store.tandtrepair.com/400stvgg.html If you every buy anything from Terry please remember to use my coupon code of andy-h-yt for 20% off. @JohnBau 10 месяцев назад

    Andy, on my machine that belt tensioner makes more noise than anything. I can't tell if the plastic sleeve is supposed to turn freely with the belt, or not. What do you think of lubing (grease) between the sleeve and eccentric shaft to quiet it some?

    • @andytubesewing1953
      @andytubesewing1953  10 месяцев назад +1

      I honestly don't remember if the sleeve rotates or not, sorry. Guessing it does, though. there is nothing in the Service Manual about greasing it. If you do grease it use caution b/c when it gets hot it can thin and I don't think getting it onto the belt would be a good idea. Maybe just a very thin coat of synthetic grease.

      @@andytubesewing1953 Problem solved. It wasn't the tension idler. It was the bushing on top of the vertical shaft. There is no oil port for it on the 413. The only way to oil it is to turn the machine upside down and use an oiler with a long (8") spout to reach it. Machine is running smooth and quiet now! 👍

    • @andytubesewing1953
      @andytubesewing1953  10 месяцев назад +1

      @@JohnBau Good to know, John, thank you! Shows how much Singer was cutting back on the machines to try to stay competitive with foreign competition. Not only did they skip the top oil port, they didn't even show instructions for oiling anything up in the arm or under the base but only the nose end. Some other machines they made without the oil port they showed oiling the bushing from the top, right at the metal base of the top gear where it rests on the top of the bushing. I found many machines like that with oil on the gear and I think people mistook the place for oil. I appreciate you sticking with the problem, solving it, and sharing it with us. Oh, also wanted to say many folks miss oiling the hole directly below the bobbin. That is for the bushing of the short shaft of the hook. When it dries out it can screech fairly loud and they think it is the pulley.

    Hi, I have a singer 6660 starlet. I got a new belt and changed it but it has refused to sew. Is it possible it requires me to reset the timing? If so, how do I go about it?

    • @andytubesewing1953
      @andytubesewing1953  4 года назад +1

      A one in one million chance you DON'T have to reset the timing. I've had to reset it every time I have changed a timing belt. You machine is about 30 years too new for me to have worked on, and it's a SInger Brazilian model which are hard to find any Service Manuals for. I found a parts diagram for model 6620 which shows a belt & pulley system like the machine in this video. Is that why you watched it? The 2nd half of the video shows how to set the timing. It is usually not required to rest the height of the needle bar after changing the belt, so you can just use the directions in the video to check the timing when the needle bar is going up to the mark. You can also turn the handwheel until the needle is right behind the hook point on the upward stroke to see if the needle bar is sitting on the timing mark. Another video: ruclips.net/video/pANycD90wQg/видео.html SInce you are asking how to set the timing does that mean following the timing instructions in this video did not work for you on your machine? If that's the case I don't think I can help. I've never even seen a 6660 let alone worked on one.

    • @andytubesewing1953

      More complicated than the models with an up-and-down lever for stitch length. The 413 is operated by a dial, so there are more parts involved. You may have a broken part. You may have stuck parts; dirty parts. My best advice is to buy the Stylist 400 & 500 - Feed System Repair Guide from Terry and use it to go through the feed system. You can use coupon code andy-h-yt through 7/31/2019 for 20% off. It is a downloadable pdf file. If you mean the gear replacement in the last two months viewers have been quated $150 to $250 to replace the gear by sewing machine repair shops where they live. The shops want you to buy something new. I made the video for people to do the work themselves. If you can not do it, look for a motorcycle or lawn mower mechanic and show the video. They are used to working of smaller mechanical systems and can easily work on a sewing machine. A few people have gone to high school shop teachers who made it a class project for extra credit, but I guess the schools are closed at this time.

    • @andytubesewing1953
      @andytubesewing1953  2 года назад

      If you have a Singer 800 you have my sympathy. Other than a couple of the early 600 metal models I stopped after the 500 series. Too, too many odd parts and mostly plastic. The 800 series alone has an 86-page parts list! 😳Good grief. Then there is that weird internal drive belt from top to bottom instead of a nice metal vertical shaft with gears. The last 800 I got on a trade I sold to a parts seller on eBay for $35 and bought a nice 348 on Craigslist that just needed cleaning and a new motor belt. If others reading this wonder about your mention of a repair manual they can find Singer Service Manuals for the 800 series here for about $10 manualsoncd.com/?s=800&post_type=product Very sorry but I can help you with this one, Marcela 😢
