I normally hammock camp, but there have been times when I've had to go to ground. That last configuration was simply brilliant. I'm going to practice it in my backyard so I'm ready for the next time. Thanks.
No worries, there is a better video on the channel dedicated to that setup. I've just tried a hammock camp. It was class, I can see why so many people love it. I'll definitely be doing more of them. Best of luck with the tarp setup 👍
I've used that a few times now, here is a better video on it ruclips.net/video/_aFEBq2ZD9Q/видео.html If you are expecting windy conditions I would say to lower the poles a bit to help it shed the wind and have the centre with the extra guy out points running from side to to side instead of front to back. That way you can attach a guy line to each side which will make a huge difference in windy conditions 👍
After buying my first tarp last year, I watched a video on how to set up a pyramid/tepee shelter. When it's closed up, it gets stuffy inside. So I did what you did and used the other trekking pole to open up one end. It's a great shelter. Good video.
Cheers Curtis. I agree, the tepee shelter is very stuffy. I liked that other shelter so much that recently I made a separate video on it. I hope your weekend is a good one, all the best
No bothers Mark, I used the last setup one night and it was fantastic. I do also like the tarp tent, it even looks good 😄thanks for watching, have a good weekend 👍
I did a configuration similar to your last example. I used a DD 4 x 4 with a trekking pole at the rear and a tarp pole at the front. It was massive! I called it my cave. I can envision using this setup with an inner such as those from Luxe Hiking. Doing so will give a person a enclosed shelter with a huge vestibule. This tarp setup will also allow multiple bivvy campers to share the same tarp shelter space.
😄 a man cave in the woods.. I'd say it was gigantic, definitely a great set up for a few people to use and your idea for the inner is great. I have my eye on one of the luxe tents but I may hold off.. Thanks very much for watching 👍⛺
I"be never used a tarp before, but do fancy giving it a go The last set-up was good with the modification .. ok as long as the wind doesn't do a 180 during the night.
Its definitely worth getting one and giving it a go, its amazing how versatile they are. I agree, that one was by far my favourite. 😂in the wind turned, yeah you'd be in bother. Thanks for watching👍
I quite like the bonus one. I like sleeping in the teepee because of the wind's blowing about in different directions during the night you're not gonna end up having to change things. with the extra pole it'd make it ideal for day time use. it'd make it way easier to get in and out. The only time I didn't get on well with the teepee was when I was blootered at a motorbike rally and I was crawling about drunk trying to find my way out to go for a piss!!
😄😅 that sounds like an eventful night.. I've done a video on it recently just setting up that bonus configuration which might be a help to you and you know yourself how to switch it to a teepee ruclips.net/video/_aFEBq2ZD9Q/видео.html
Hiya good to see your video this week. Seeing more Tarp videos on RUclips recently. Like the idea but also prefer to have a tent with the floor. I do find it interesting seeing the different folding techniques you used. Was you in the army or just learnt in bushcraft? My Lowe Alpine Sting bag turned up this week and its very impressive. Quite heavy but is well padded and plenty of space. Definately recommend a look. Have a good weekend and thanks for the video 👍
Yeah I like the tents too although you can get inners for tarps and ground sheets. Just learning as I go and sharing what I have learned. I havent been tarp camping yet hopefully in the next few weeks I'll get out in it. I did look them up after you told me and they look really good. All the best with it. Thanks for watching and have a good weekend👍
I would say that they would be too small. You could try the A frame but it would be very low to the ground unless you used guy lines to extend the tie out points. I've recently bought a DD tarp s which is 1.5m x 3m so I'll be doing some videos with that one that might help you out. These setups wouldn't work with a small rectangular tarp unfortunately
@@RamblingOn That would be great - planning on using the tarp on the South West Coast Path in June instead of a 1 man tent so i look fwd to the next video! Subscribed.
I suppose it depends on the quality of the trekking pole. I have never had any issues. I always try to extend the thicker sections of the pole first and only extend the bottom thinner section if I need to as I would assume that might be a weak point in the pole. I hope this helps you out. All the best Frank and thank you for watching 👍
Pegging it out as a square makes the next step easier. Moving the corner tie out points into the position of the second tie out point determines the height of the A frame and therefore the height of the trekking poles. This can be adjusted to suit once it is all in place. If you are asking about how I pegged out the second side. I put the spare peg into the second loop because at that stage the tarp had lost it's tension and it just makes it easier to find the correct position to peg the tie out point on that side. These steps I found to be useful to learn the process of creating the A frame. I hope this answers your question, all the best 👍 Jason
Nylon absorbs a certain amount of water which means if or when it gets wet it will lose it's tension which is why you often hear people advise that you check the tension of guylines before going to sleep to be sure that the tent or tarp is nice and taut. Both tarps have the same hydrostatic head rating of 3000mm. I would say that the polyester feels like a stronger material, I haven't looked into that myself so that is just my opinion. Saying that most of my other gear is nylon and anything over 40d feels pretty strong and I have never had an issue with tears etc
You stole my idea on your bonus tarp I've been figuring out how to do that on a piece of paper the only difference from mine is I actually put a coughlin extra large bug net on the inside so I can use it in the summertime without skeeters ;-)
I just had the most bizarre divine vision. You know that trick where you put a smooth pebble in the "fabric" of your three x three, then you tie masonry cord around the pebble forming an attachment point? Like no trekking pole in the middle... Three pole lashing tripod outside the "fabric"! Suspend the tarp beneath the three poles. Incomprehensible number of unique artisan configurations. Did you ever see that 4' x 10' mylar .25 in. foam insulation for a floor? Roll it up...
That sounds like a great idea, it would take some practice but it sounds pretty sweet. I haven't seen the foam insulation but I'll have a gander at it. Cheers for watching 🍀

This is by far the best video for the beginner. Good lighting, good angles, and excellent explanation. The first example is my favorite.
He has some great vids..
You covered three setups in less time than it takes many to cover one. No wasted words or fiddling around....just good instructions. Well done.

Nice!!! The bonus one is like an a frame 2.0 lol!Enclosed on one end and great view on other!
Best tent tarp video I've seen on youtube. Thank you.
Ah cheers, thanks very much. Have a good weekend 👍
Love the last improvised setup, big area, shelter on 3 sides, winner in my book. Gonna try it out to lighten my backpack.

Thanks for the tips. You did a great job battling the wind. Looks like it was a beautiful day.
The wind picked up pretty quickly but at least it didn't bring the rain with it 😄 Thanks for watching

This video is spot on mate. To a complete beginner like myself I can clearly understand how to make these. Just need a tarp!
Cheers Elliot, delighted to hear that. You should have seen me recording it 😄 Best of luck with your setups 👍
It's tough setting up in windy conditions, well done.
Looking at this two years on I didn’t recognize the DD tarp without the wrinkles. That looks fresh out of the bag! 😊
thanks. very clear explanations. I think the tarp tent is probably my favourite of these also being 6 foot 2!

Can you do the tarp tent with a smaller solo tarp?
The smaller tarps tend to be rectangular in shape. It may be possible but I have not tried it
Thanks
Great video mate - quick question: would these set ups work with a 1.35m by 2.5m tarp or would it be too small for the avg bloke?

Can the trekking poles break when staking out or because of strong wind while sleeping?

Not sure what you did with the classic A frame at the beginning, pegging it. Why is that needed?

@@RamblingOn Ok, cheers Jason. I get it now. It would be useful to have a sort of birds eye view of what you're doing exactly. Hard to tell. Cheers.
@@ryand141 thanks Ryan I'll keep that in mind when I do another tarp video. I appreciate your feedback , all the best👍
Is this nylon material or polyester bro ?
Mine is a 190t polyester. There is a superlight version that is a ripstop nylon and the pack size would be smaller too
for rain resistance is polyester better than nylon? and is it stronger than nylon?
Nylon absorbs a certain amount of water which means if or when it gets wet it will lose it's tension which is why you often hear people advise that you check the tension of guylines before going to sleep to be sure that the tent or tarp is nice and taut. Great minds think alike. Ah yeah that's a good idea to use the bug net inside. That setup is my favourite because it is so big and very sturdy
bushcraft AND trekking poles? 🤯 that's cheating! 😁
😄 fair point
