In the 70’s I spent the summers at my grandparents cottage and won the lakes big bass contest on a Rebel Deep R almost every year. In the 80’s I won club, Red Man and Federation tournaments on a Bagley DB3, In the 90’s it was Poe 300 & 400. 2005 I won the BASS Federation National Championship with a Poe 300. These days I still use the Poe’s and buy and use the XD baits. That bait style has been a great bait for 50 years. All you need is Shad, Chartreuse and Black.
Norman deep little N for me. Been throwing it for 30+ years and I've always got one tied on. Still throwing same color/ colors and they still catch fish. Rivers, lakes, summer, winter, spring, or fall it's my absolute confidence crank.
I throw the Series 5. It is versatile and reilable. I've been throwing it on recent trips here in Southern Illinois. It's a catcher. Glad to hear you break it down.
The series 5 is without a doubt one of the best crankbaits to ever exist... I have no clue why but it will come through shallow brush piles and stump fields better then any crankbait I've ever thrown. Definitely a solid bait and I have a tackle box dedicated to them. Great video as always keepem coming brother!!!
Love these type of videos Todd. Please do a 1 rod challenge! Saw the video where you were throwing a 5xd and changed to a series 5 over grass. Good juice!
The series 1 and series 4s are old baits that still load the boat. Wish they came is more colors like they used to and alot of the newer colors the other strike king cranks come in
Oh my series 5 is one of my all time favorites. Caught fish like crazy on it. Even caught some really nice crappie on it. I’ve bought series 5 by the dozen before.
Agreed that more expensive doesn't necessarily mean a better bait. That said, one thing I've noticed is more consistency bait to bait with a select few more expensive baits (OSP, Megabass, Evergreen, Duo and few others mostly Japanese brands). So even though each bait is more expensive, in a way it really isn't. Say I buy 5 Strike King cranks, 1-3 of them of them are going to run good-great (I don't mean a tuning issue, I mean the way it wobbles, wiggles, rolls, deflects, start back up after a pause or intentional blowout, hunts, etc). The other 2-4 of those 5 may as well go in the trash, in the "I will see what I can modify on it later" bin or for some maybe save them for one of those days when anything will get bit. Whereas if I buy 3 OSP cranks everyone of them is going to do the exact same thing. So, in a way it really isn't more or less expensive. Not saying every manufacturer's expensive bait will run good, but the really good ones will. Make sense?
I've had the exact same issue. 5xd would out catch any crankbait in my boat but my problem is the same. Taking time to upgrade hooks on 5 of them and at least 2 aren't going to run true at all is frustrating
I've been throwing the series 3 alot as a search bait. If that bite is on, I'll switch to a spro Rk crawler in a tourny because it's just better, but the series cranks are cheap and great for throwing around sketchy cover. Paint falls off, and they always need tuning, but they do get it done. I may have to add the series 5 to the arsenal for the same purpose.
You ever get into wooden baits? I hear you about cheap squarebills still catching fish, but I do shell out the extra dough for balsa plugs sometimes. I just think its something different from the last guy who went down the bank.
Great information!! Hey do u throw the Hybrid Hunter in the fall and how long into the season do u usually fish it? We need a Fall/late season Hybrid Hunter video. I love that bait!
I want a dedicated series 4 vid with all the juice, please. Can’t find the ghost sexy Shad color anywhere anymore. Bought some of the squarebill models in that color to get my older series 4 repainted correctly. That was Thrifts bait, right?
Is it good for paralleling the bank you said everything but that lol my home lake is Cumberland so I'm fishing 45 degree banks with all types of different rock and short small trees and how well does it do with wood i try and stay in that 8 to 12 foot range
Ive caught more 5-8 lbers on the 10XD, especially when it was new...BUT, my personal best (9.44) came on a 5XD...the 5 series and xd versions are the all size fish catchers..
Bro. I wish I were in Texas. I'd about love to go fishing with you for a few days and just learn. I wouldn't care if I caught one at all, just learning would be the deal. I feel like I'm a decent angler but I really struggle with a few techniques. Cranking, jerking and deeper stuff like brushpiles etc. I really struggle. And living on the Tennessee river ledge fishing is key and I suck at it. Lol. I can do shallow all day long and that's what I usually end up doing I still catch em but I know my chances of catching bigger fish more consistently would drastically increase if I could do better fishing deeper.
Do you throw the 8XD or 10Xd? I have some difficulty sometimes with the 8XD but it’s probably the rod I’m using it might not be a heavy enough rod for the bait.
I have always seed to do better with silent cranks baits, of any size/depth range. Regardless of water clarity. Maybe that's because I throw them that much more? Any thoughts on rattling or silent cranks??
Damn.... You HAD to do it ..JUST HAD to tell folks who look at them and don't buy them because they think they're the same as a 5xd😂😂.. I throw the SERIES crankbaits.. and I literally can throw behind my partner (cousin) and pick up fish with a SERIES 5 that won't bite the obnoxious hunting crankbaits he throws!! 😂😂 Have GoPro footage to prove it!!
I know where to start since I have a nice 3700 full of various shad colors. I just need to tie on and cast them but I'm a jig junkie. Maybe you were my psychiatrist in this episode. I was in the recliner so lets hope it finally sinks in. Where do I send the money?
Is there a way to tell the difference between the Series 5 and the 5XD if you’re just looking at them? I have them kind of mixed in my box and would like to separate them
@@tonyperez3666 I like SK baits. Have caught a lot of fish on the 6XD. The $3.99 Pradco baits don’t have the greatest paint either. They do have a weight transfer system in addition to the good hooks. Nice to have that with a flat bait like the Flat A. Cannot beat the price.
Personally I’m not interested in watching anyone catch fish after fish during a 20 minute video. I’m far more interested in learning how I can catch more fish. Good video
This is kinda off subject but I’ve noticed for years that you always part your boat outside and it’s hardly ever covered now I’m not bitching or anything because it’s your boat you do what you want. I know you have a good explanation for this lol and would love to hear it
I would love to see a one rod challenge with the series 5.
Great video Todd... love this approach to your topics. Much better content than solely catching fish for 20 minutes.

Seriously nothing more satisfying than watching boat after boat go by on the bank while you’re out in 8’-12’ just railing on them 😂
What happened at table rock?
I throw the Series 5. It is versatile and reilable. I've been throwing it on recent trips here in Southern Illinois. It's a catcher. Glad to hear you break it down.
Todd, what happened at Tablerock? I was watching to see your daily limits, and either you didn't fish or had to leave.
I second this, was curious if the delay on a video post meant some content centered around it was coming
Yes. What happened on Table Rock with the zero? Will you be making a YT on it or it's none of our business?
That might be the lightest line I have ever heard you use for a crank bait ever, lol. With that said thanks for making another great video!
Of of all the Strike King cranks, the series 4 is probably the most underrated. If they're on a wiggle wart/rock crawler bite, the 4 will hammer them.
Well put. Got caught up in the JDM stuff a couple of years ago and learned real quick that the $20 crank bait just hurts worse when you break it off.
That bait has been one of my favorites for so long. Series 4 also

I think the newer stuff gets more attention and people forget so it’s harder to keep them around
Great bait! I have 8 in my box and is mostly my go to bait in cranks.
6xd is my number 1 confidence crank! Just flat out catches em anytime of the year at any body of water
Oh my series 5 is one of my all time favorites. Caught fish like crazy on it.
Even caught some really nice crappie on it.
I’ve bought series 5 by the dozen before.
I throw the series 5 on tenkiller and it catches them. Bandit used to make a crank that is almost the same as the series 5

Another great video, Bud. Another great video, Bud.
I made more money on the Harris Chain of lakes in the early 2000's with that bait than I'd care to admit. Straight money right there 💯
Series 5 has caught more doubles than all other crankbaits combined for me. For some reason it works really well throwing into schooling fish.
I prefer the 3XD. Can get it to 10-12 ft. Great lil bait
Great video Todd! Thanks!
I never knew they had that. I’m gonna have to buy a few now
You ever get into wooden baits? I hear you about cheap squarebills still catching fish, but I do shell out the extra dough for balsa plugs sometimes. I just think its something different from the last guy who went down the bank.
What happened to you at the Toyota series championship. Everything good ? I was worried
Great information!! Hey do u throw the Hybrid Hunter in the fall and how long into the season do u usually fish it? We need a Fall/late season Hybrid Hunter video. I love that bait!
Are you doing a Costa championship update...haven't seen anything.. The Rock has been brutal this year
But question Todd! There is a time and place for the square bill and assuming more shallow brush situations. Is that correct?
Yes what's crazy is that I rarely run into those situations, maybe ill do a video on it. This is actually a great topic
Todd, can you please be more specific when you recommend Owner STX hooks? There are at least 3 strengths of those treble hooks.
I want a dedicated series 4 vid with all the juice, please. Can’t find the ghost sexy Shad color anywhere anymore. Bought some of the squarebill models in that color to get my older series 4 repainted correctly. That was Thrifts bait, right?
Yes, and it’s hard for me to find as well
Great picture you showed. You have to have options without stopping to change lures every 20 to 30 minutes and waste fishing time

I was wondering the same thing. I was down there and didn't see Todd on the water.
Yes all the time

Old guys would say... Strike King modeled the series 5 after the Bill Norman Deep Little N
I'm one of those old guys but I'd say the deep little N will out catch any crank bait in the 7-11 foot range. All day everyday anytime of year.
@@michaelsheppard4227 100% agree with you.
Anyone ever told you that you’re really good at selling baits? 😂
Inquiring minds want to know about what happened at Table Rock Todd….

My bad 😂, at least I waited this long since I've been on RUclips to say it.
The Deep Little N was this bait before Strike King

Series 5 has a straight bill on it.
A 5XD bill has two angles to it really.
@@michaellamb1342 thank you
$3.99 all day on fat free shad and flat a. Can’t beat that and comes with good hooks.
Never really liked Strike King hard baits. The paint doesn't last.

True and I only show fish catches cause there are things that you need to see. It’s different for everyone but sometimes watching is believing
