Come on out to the northern (part) of California I can show you what the Hybrid Hunter can do on some lakes and water ways you may have heard of. Love your channel.
I really enjoyed talking to you about the Hybrid Hunter at I-cast. I feel like most people don't understand how to really fish it. I felt like we bonded over it, even though we had just met. Keep up the good work dude.
Man Todd this is one of my favorite channel, especially now i can interpret the ToddEnglish Language 😂 Went ro my Psychiatrist (spelling) made him watch these videos....He said its easy the guy is a hammer....listen to him as if he excited to teach you to be a hammer. Now i only see him 1 time a month.
I'm still trying to get the hang of the hybrid hunter and plan on spending more time with it soon! really like the little inside stuff you tell us = god bless!
I really enjoyed watching this video, the fact that you take theory to the practice while talking about a subject I found it very cool. Thanks for the sharing this.
Hey man! Definitely agree on the color thing. I've caught a lot on a firetiger here in Virginia. Doesn't matter. Clear and stained on different lakes. Can't wait to see new colors to add to collection!
It's soo true. Crazy colors and patterns work better than the traditional color schemes, sometimes. The more weird, the better. I paint a lot of my own baits. Some, just to get close to a good color scheme that I know works at a certain place and others, I just do something totally off the wall and those tend to do better than the more traditional stuff. I've got all the colors in the Hybrid Hunter, but I haven't had much success with them, yet. I throw them quite a bit because I fish a lot of grassy lakes. I believe it doesn't have much to do with the lure this year because I haven't done well with moving baits at all...anywhere (other than a buzzbait). It's just an off year for that type of bait...so far, but the fall may change all that. Anyway...great content as always. Keep it up.
It's difficult to seperate anecdote and easy to fall into pitfalls like confirmation bias. Bass see color much different than we do. White and yellow for example. Color obviously plays a part but i feel like it's more psychological with fisherman than it is biological with bass.
Thanks for the tip... I, for One, really appreciate the fact that you and Strike King actually worked with the original company... I understand that it's in a different Country, no one will care if you don't,or that every one copies lures, because there's no true authority to say that you Can't. My respect for the company, has grown, even to the screams of my wallet, because We ALL See what certain companies and anglers have been doing recently, and that's shamelessly copying and marketing others hard work and inventions as their own. Even to the point of introducing people to us that came up with the ideas for the baits... When I Know that I've seen them built, used and marketed in other countries, long before they came up with ideas. Most bait makers are smaller companies, just like here, and I appreciate Yall not stepping on the little Man,whose idea, and hard work brought us the product first. It's nice to see that Integrity and having a moral compass does still matter,in this instant gratification age!
I have found that it also works as a popping bait on the surface (just like a popper) or can walk like a Dawg. Hands down has replaced almost all of my cranks. Fishing smallmouth in Southwest Colorado.
I have a pattern and color that just works for me so I know it’s crazy but I go get 10 or 20 at a time, blast the paint off and repaint every hybrid hunter I get. It may be more of a confidence thing but for each lake I fish, I have a custom color.
@@Patriot-dt3wk Hey, Patriot. I bought 6 Hybird Hunter Jr's in different colors. I have used the white color with gray graphics on top. Last fall. I Had good luck with that one. I tried a Red Red eye 1/2 oz lipless against. The Red Craw colored Hybird Hunter Jr. Caught 2 males. Mid April I tried The Red Craw Hybird Hunter Jr. Caught 3 females over 4 pds and 10 males over 3 pds. The females were in 4 to 5 ft of water. I believe the males were in 2ft of water. Making beds or thinking about it. I would crank, crank and let the Hybird Hunter Jr float to the top. I would adjust my cranks and speed. Till I caught a Bass. Then repeat the cadences again and again. The Hybird hunter jr has replaced. The spinnerbaits and chatterbaits. That I caught bass on last year. Maybe it's the action or a difference in the way the bait deflects off of the old grass on the bottom. Or hitting the sand soil. What ever it is. The bass hit harder and are bigger. I thought what another new bait to buy. Over the last 4 years. The StrikeKing 1.5 square bill in Sexy Shad has out produced. All other cranks combined for me. Now it's the Hybird Hunter Jr in all colors. Good luck! Buy some Hybird Hunter Jr's. See what you think! Then get back to me. Shawn.
In my co-angler bag for tournaments, I have an original Clearwater minnow, smooth, Bully color and a shallow chrome and Blue back to use behind my boater when we are targeting schooling fish deep. I also have the Jr shallow diving in clearwater minnow, smooth, and gold. Then I have an extra 3700 box in my backpack that I will have a few of the original HH in Fire Craw, Sweet Shad and Blue Craw. The Jr size in Chartreuse Perch, Oyster, and chrome blue back. since I started using them I don't throw a square bill anymore and other then some 5XD and 6XD's that pretty much covers my crankbait box.
I literally have fished this lure in everything you can possibly throw it into, the hybrid hunter is not just a grass lure it will go through anything very well
Last 2 videos great Would it be possible to do a series on the best lure to throw after a top water miss i see you pick up a worm or another creature lure after a miss This would be a great little series thank you
Dark, light and bright just like every other lure. I have all crank baits in Shad, Chartreuse and Black. Any lure that I don’t like the color gets painted Black. Not many baits painted that color and it works.
I think you nailed it. As a scuba diver I know white is the last color to fade out at depth. Other colors can mimic forage that bass are keyed in on at particular times of the year. Size is also a huge parameter in presentation
I’ve busted em on a stop and go retrieve on grass lines. I’ve also caught some bigs on timber. This thing deflects off timber better than anything else. I run it at fork and try to stick in in stumps.
Same thing with me. Have 3 colors and nothing but dinks. Have yet to catch a 12" fish on one. Have had 2 rods set up. One with the HH, one with a 1.5 of various manufactures. 10 to 1 fish on the 1.5's. To me, the HH is like the Manns Loud Mouth. Both suck. I can't believe Todd is really PT Barnum'em us, lol.
There is no grass in our lakes but the HH works the best for me on shallow rocky banks. Get at least a 7.2 ratio reel and retrieve as fast as you can. Sometimes I’ll pause after hitting a rock and give it twitch and it does work but mainly burn it back as fast as possible!
I’m on same page. I don’t remember if Todd already made a video on this or not. Would be great to have a revisit or post a link to that video if already done. I struggle trying to figure out how and where to fish this so I give up throwing (probably too quickly) cause I haven’t built that confidence yet.
Todd, is the HH a crank bait for fishing over/around grass? Does it produce around isolated wood the same as grass? Does water color matter? Time of year?
From my experience with it I have caught more fish around isolated wood, rock and bluff walls then I have in grass. Granted I fish more lakes like Cherokee, Douglas and South Holston where I have caught them good with both the original and Jr HH. I caught just as many last year on Cherokee during the Open as a co-angler fishing behind my boater who was throwing a Mag draft on bluff walls in 20 feet of water. Them Smallies would come from the depths and nail it hard.
HH is my juice. Awesome bait. One question. Can one of the ball bearings inside come loose or get lodged to where the bait will hardly dive and repeatedly surface?
@@toddcastledinefishing5924 yes I was scrolling through your previous posts and found where someone had asked pretty much the same question. Thank You for responding back!! Love your videos!!!!
I have a question on color. 30 to 40 years ago in Bassmaster mag. The color testing came out that all colors except blue turned black after a certain depth. I think it was either 6 or 15 feet. Can’t remember. What is your current knowledge on this?
Is this a mix of a wake and square bill because mine look so weird and they don’t dive just like sub surface. Just trying to under stand it’s action so I know how to fish it? Also on the small Popping perch jrs what rod do you throw them on ? Because it’s hard to cast them and place it where I want it lol but I love the bait it gets munched
This bait makes fishing grass fun and easy .. bomb cast it out there and pull it down to the grass pause it repeat keeping it down. They smash this bait so 20lb fluorocarbon lets you feel how violently they attack it .. braid on the pause doesn't allow the same on the pause but it will still work. Hybrid hunter is easy to get easy and fun to fish and well priced. How do ya beat it guy?!?!
This is such a goofy looking bait and thats probably why it took me so long to try one but man the hype is real about this bait... when I do find them in stock around the house I always grab a couple even if I dont really need them. LOL
I have had great success with green gizzard in stained water and I bought a Black chartreuse one that has faded to blk over ivory or bone works good off colored water better to me than bright chartreuse. Now when do we quit talking about this killer bait that a lot of people don't know about?
I purchased 6 of the hybrid hunters. Lost 4 in the trees under water in my lake. But had one left I just threw and started catching fish. Not giants but at least 4-5 every time I went fishing. I took my Doughter fishing before they drained my lake told her I was going to Todd castle fine her but. She hasn’t forgotten your name after that day.
In shape fishing.

Cool this is getting like intuitive angling! Videos every day
Thanks Todd. I have five different colors right now the sweet shad has done great by me in Kansas. I can't wait to fish with' em on Okeechobee
Can you let me know what color on the big O planning on fishing it for fun in February with my wife!
The gold hybrid hunter should do it. Other than that bluegill pattern for all Techniques on the big O.

You sale custom color lures?
@@scottvaughn9565 I do.
I’ve found in tannic color water the Gold/Black back orange belly is a good one 👍

The Smooth color is green and white on the new Shallow Jr. I wish they kept it blue & white like the bigger one
What about a video on what conditions for the two sizes and what conditions are better for the shallow? If you have done that I don't remember.

What size/brand treble replacement do you recommend for the Jr? Or you like the stock hooks 😮?
How difficult was it to convince Strike King Not to make a sexy shad...clear water minnow has worked for me in every water color.
I would think as far as colors. 1 ghost baitfish 1 bold baitfish a craw and a maybe 1 bluegill.
I like it I just need some more time with it
I want this bait to work just not getting quality bites. Catching plenty of pike and walleye. Going to play with the smaller size and different colors

Yep I’m going to need more tackle storage.

Good stuff
great info man thx
When those new colors come out you might as well just take my money
Paint cracked on my hybrid hunter's before i used them will it effect performance
Need to have mat fire tiger

Gold Black
