Fantastic points!! I lost weight (262 lbs --> 135 lbs) and did almost all of it during lockdown and no one knew. I also didn't tell anyone. Many people couldn't recognize me after. I never spoke about it lol!! I never brought it up or entertained conversation around it. If people did ask, I would say something like, yeah I took advantage of lockdown to work on some stuff. No details! The less I refer to it, the less I find other people feel comfortable bringing it up to me. Does that mean I missed out on the congratulations, sure I guess, but I wasn't doing it for that, so I don't care. I love all the points in this video, 100% we do not owe anyone an explanation. I love how you say you're still living in response to "live a little". No one has ever said that to me but if they did, now I want to look them in the eye and say "I live a little differently than you do, I guess" HA! Maybe petty but seriously people need to not try to trigger people who used to be obese, into eating unhealthy foods. Most people around me are used to me eating healthy so they don't really do that to me though. My husband and I had our 14th anniversary the other day and he asked me what I had room for in my calories and I said just ice cream, not a whole dinner out, and that was fine! That's what we did. I got my ice cream and he got a slice of chocolate cake and it was great. I think having supportive people around you is great but I like to keep people at arm's length on this topic and I think that has worked really well for me.

My husband is the worst one!! Despite me losing over 50 lbs. and still going strong. I stick to a pretty rigid yet healthy "diet" that I've maintained for a year. I'm happy with the food I eat, I feel so much better without sugar and complex carbs. Just whole healthy foods. He still brings junk food in the house, sodas, candy, you name it. I've come far enough that I can just ignore those things being around. I also kept my weight loss a secret, though. I didn't need any unsolicited advice. 😂 This is for me. No one else. 🖤
Thanks for the great message and video ❤

My husband brings the junk in too but I,have asked him to keep it out of sight and he does. He’s trying to lose weight too but is not as regimented as I am. Little by little he’s coming around we’re both losing steadily.

Interesting. I just realized something while watching your videos today. I've been trying to be kinder and have self love and talk nicely to myself ... but I've realized there is a part of me that is a naysayer itself, that is the inner critic (which is actually mostly the voices of people from my past). I already try to say I'm not going to continue that job for them but I've still been trying to be polite in a way because of the goal of self love.
Now when I have bad anxiety, one thing that works for me is to dare it or yell at it and basically say "don't threaten me". I'll tell it to get on with it, if it's going to kill me just do it because I have things to do. This works a lot of the time.
But that naysayer voice seems more a part of me and I've been trying to treat it compassionately since it seems to be me. But I may have to treat it separately like my anxiety and talk to it the same way. Basically tell it off and then turn the compassion on my real self. You helped me have an epiphany that I've been trying to include the critic as part of me, as part of self love, and be compassionate for it. This hasn't worked really so maybe it's time to NOT JADE to that part of me... To realize that it's NOT really a part of me...but more like a time capsule record someone left playing in the background. I'm going to knock it off its needle and say, "fuck that noise"!
Basically I'm realizing there are "parts of me" that aren't really "me" and maybe it's okay to not take shit from them though I'm trying to practice self love. And frankly I'm sick of that inner naysayer's shit!
Not sure I'm explaining it well, but this is all to say that your videos always bring a lot of AHA moments. And I thank you for it. 💜
Edited to add: just thought about it and it's like that part you say you push away with your hand. Those thoughts. I've been trying to compassionately JADE with those thoughts out of the idea of self love when I should have been using your trick of pushing them away, literally with my hand like you've shown. Ha. Aha. I love it. 😁🤗

You are so brave for highlighting your own insecurities and sharing your story about your sister. I have many naysayyers in my life and I've learned to just laugh it off but it's so unhelpful. The most unhelpful thing is when you say you given up x y and z and they tell you how they can eat it with no problem, like ok sure but how does that help me and my bread gobbling ass.

Your reference to self care is so true. My weight loss started at the end of lockdown & having an elderly parent with late onset type one diabetes, mobility issues & other health problems was the catalyst for me.
You are so right about prioritising looking after your mental, physical & emotional health, your fitness & your flexibility.
I had many naysayers on my weight loss journey & discovered I no longer needed negativity in my life. They made nasty comments about me being overweight, yet never praised me once I’d lost 20kg.
I’ve nurtured the positive friendships & discovered new friends along the way. How I feel about myself & embracing new experiences & adventures is all that matters.
Thank you for your inspiration Carla 💖

I told my mom and grandma when I started my weight loss journey because I live with them. And they were the ones to see the biggest changes in my eating behaviors. It was frustrating that my grandma kept buying snack cakes and telling me about them at the beginning. She still buys them but keeps them hidden now. Then the only other people who know are 2 of my cousins. I feel like they would be shocked if they saw me after a big weight loss and hadn’t told them. Also I’m pretty close to them and more like friends than family so it was something I wanted to share. But because of negativity, I made the decision to keep it private from any of my social media until either I’ve met my goal or the end of the year/new year 2025. 💖😸

🐈 I used to have the mindset that eating whatever I wanted was true freedom. My ex-husband and I would plan full weekend trips around restaurants we wanted to eat at. All I remember about those trips is food.
Then, 3 years ago, my dad and I went on a cross country road trip together (USA-from Chicago to LA). My dad eats extremely healthy since he had a heart attack nearly ten years ago. So, our activities were not based around food. Sure, we ate some good food, but I remember the mountains in New Mexico, the petrified forest in Arizona, and the beach in LA. It was such a magical experience and really changed my perspective.

I'm one month post op from gastric bypass, but am still enrolled in Body Slims for this Wednesday, simply because I love the program and have done 2 cycles of it (lost 20 lbs before my surgery with Body Slims). I've had people say "why'd you do that to yourself"... and I simply say it was what was best for me. It's not for everyone, but it's what made sense for me. :)

  • @slingnstone
    @slingnstone 2 месяца назад +3

Carla, thank you for the amazing encouragement! I have recently started my journey - in fact, I started BodySlims just today. 🥰 My "why" now is much different, more compelling, and more important to me than my past shallow "whys". It's so I can restart my life again after withdrawing for nearly a decade. I have met the man I want to spend the rest of my life with who loves me for who I am, and my decision to get healthy and finally lose the 150 lbs I need to lose is not for him but to begin to build and create the life I want with him. I am hoping in a years time I will be close to my goal weight, and moving to Scotland from America to begin my new life. Thank you so much for giving me a new boot in the butt to show up for myself and begin rebuilding a life I love. 💖

Everyone in my life is super supportive, no matter what I do. It’s me (or like one of these commenters alluded to) an old tape playing that’s naysaying. But I have a quote I’ve printed out and taped to my bedroom wall: “Get up, Champ! Didn’t you say this was going to be your year? Don’t go back on your word. Let’s push through.” It helps keep me between the bumpers (or brings me back to the game!) when I lose track.

Not relevant to this video, but I was watching old episodes last night, and am just curious on excess skin and whether or not your skin has tightened up over time or did you wind up getting all of the loose skin places removed that you were planning to 6 months or a year ago? Ive got 170ish pounds to lose, and am wondering if there are any tips other than weight training to build muscle that will help it tighten up over time. I'm not a good candidate for surgery.
