    Another wonderful review. I'm enjoying this aircraft too. Years ago I watched a documentary where some veteran P-51 and P-47 pilots reminisced about attacking Ju52 transports full of young soldiers being moved into battle. They tried not to think too much about what carnage those 50 cal guns were doing to the troops inside the fuselage of the German aircraft - understandable. I do hope Aeroplane Heaven take your comments and feedback on board, it would not take too much to move this offering from great to excellent in my view.

      Yes, the AH P-47 is pretty nice overall and as you say, it wouldn’t take a whole lot to turn it into a great addon. Unfortunately, I don’t think Aeroplane Heaven care very much about anything I have to say (unless I’m missing something obvious, I’ve pointed out the “dead” VSI on their Spit, Mustang and P-47 but, it looks as though their Hurricane still has the same issue) XD
      As Tom says, that attack / documentary is a rather chilling thought. . .
      Cheers, as always! Have a great weekend : )

    I love the look and the Jug is one of my all time favorite warbirds. The sound thing is disappointing (especially the fly by) and I don't know if it's just me but the heat vectors coming from the exhaust seem exaggerated _AND_ they didn't change with speed. Funny what little things can bug me to the point.
    When (if?) I get around building a modern rig, I'm afraid I'll have to spend the money for multiple sims. I miss the final iteration of FSX with TacPac. That alone is why I might drop the money on P3D. The VRS Superbug and A2A is almost worth the sacrifice of the stunning visuals in MSFS.
    Truth be told, I'll probably put FSX back on just to have access to my massive collection of A2A, my VRS and RazBams with TacPac.
    Added in Edit: From a P-47 pilot I knew when in middle school. The wide stance of the landing gear allowed for an intentional ground loop if brakes were out or the runway left was too short.

    Thank you for this excellent review and your honest criticisms of their model! I'm sure they will take them to heart and release an update soon. Until then, for warbirds in msfs, I'd still go for the ones made by FlyingIron (Spitfire, Hellcat). If I wanted to fly WWII scenarios, I would still go for the DCS Thunderbolt, along with one of the campaigns made by Reflected Simulations.

    If memory serves the exhaust of the P-47 was not out the bottom of the cowl like that, but instead out of that blister just ahead of the tailwheel due to the exhaust being routed to behind the pilot where the turbo charger resided. Definitely some work needed on this aircraft, but it seems promising.

    • @timothybird7450
      @timothybird7450 Месяц назад +2

      There are actually 2 exhausts on the P-47D. The rear exhaust is where the majority of the exhaust goes after going through the supercharger/turbocharger system (Name seems to change depending on the diagram used). The front one is for the wastegate for excess exhaust gasses, as well the oil cooler being ahead of it.
      Apparently on current civilian P-47's flying, the turbo/supercharger system is disconnected and all exhaust goes through the forward exhaust. The system was very vulnerable to exhaust fires, and it would more often than not lead to the loss of the aircraft.

    • @matydrum
      @matydrum Месяц назад

      Nope, there are two exhausts under the engine cowl flaps, just under the wing root on each sides.

    • @matydrum
      @matydrum Месяц назад

      @@timothybird7450 Yes you're right, as modern day p-47 don't need to escort bombers at high altitude but are preserved for airshows, the turbo charger is not used anymore.

    • @pythosdegothos6181
      @pythosdegothos6181 Месяц назад

      I stand corrected. There are indeed two exhausts behind the lower cowl. The model is still not right though as it appears to be coming out the oil cooler. ruclips.net/video/K4vuGy9WkQk/видео.htmlsi=CorAzma0B_UieK2Q

  • @HarryVoyager

    Gear down and flaps down right at 200mph is to fast. Per AN 01-65-BC-1 those are not to exceed speeds: don't lower to gear above 200mph, don't lower the flaps above 195mph and don't exceed 250mph with the gear extended.
    Landing you're supposed to line up at around 150mph, and lower the gear and flaps, and avoid making turns below 130 mph.
    Approach and landing speed should be 115-120mph. You seemed like you were a bit nose low.
    On the turbo interlock, it wasn't in the original versions. Later a latch was added that would catch the throttle is the turbo was advanced beyond the throttle and push the throttle forward with it.
    In operation, it was most efficient to advance the throttle first, leaving the turbo not even engaged, until you run out of throttle, and then start advancing the turbo. But the turbo is super laggy so you get a quicker power response out of the throttle.

    It really looks nice overall, despite a few niggles. But that looped engine sound ... it has such an obvious artificially sounding repeating pattern in such a short interval that it's getting really annoying, really fast just watching the video. The big trick in looping sounds is to make them sound like they are not looping, which they didn't manage at all. It's unfortunate ... still hoping for a third party replacement sound solution before I pull the trigger at the given price point (or a big sale discount). It is on the shopping list, though.

  • @andrewjamez
    @andrewjamez Месяц назад +1

    why can they not include a flywheel sound for the inertial starter? Counting 10sec in silence is not great. There seems to be all kinds of overlapping engine sounds as the increase to full throttle is made and the usual tin can sound still persists. Still i think this is the best plane AH have done to date but still more work to be done before Ill part money for an AH aircraft. Awesome Review as usual. Thanks

    Personally, I definitely don't need study level, but I do want immersion. The sounds, or lack thereof, can kill that immersion and I wish all developers would pay more attention to it. Particularly things like switches and the sound of the engine when you have canopy or doors opened or closed. And is it just me, or have they gone way over the top with the exhaust heat haze?

    • @Jigsaw407
      @Jigsaw407 Месяц назад

      Yeah, noticed that right away. No sound effects for certain switches makes me sad and really shouldn't be a thing for a $30-40 aircraft! And yeah, the heatblur effect is way overdone.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  21 день назад

      I totally agree, Adam. I think there are a lot (most) of simmers that don’t need 100% “realism” however, I think all of us want to feel fully immersed and sound is one of the most important factors in that regard. Years ago, missing sounds etc were quite acceptable, I don’t think that is any longer the case. The heat haze does seem pretty OTT, yes haha.
      Cheers, sir! All the best : )

    Been waiting for a P-47 since MSFS 2000 launched. Too bad it's from Aeroplane Heaven. Their planes always look good, but they always take too many shortcuts with systems and flight modeling. Their P-51D did NOT fly like a P-51D. More like an early jet, the auto mixture was not auto and prop pitch angle at high RPM looked like the prop was feathered, not at it's engine off, flattest pitch.
    It's also a razorback and not the more powerful, capable and better looking D -N model. I'll wait until Flying Iron puts out an MSFS version of their DCS N model. Now THAT will be a Thunderbolt worth getting.

    Jago! These aircraft were brutally effective in the breakout in the Normandy campaign. Dominant. Tore up everything from tanks to generals. Source: Hargreaves, The Germans in Normandy. Jagdbomber (Jabo). fighter-bomber. Slang. Also, Tiefflieger (low flying strafer). US i believe named them 'Jug' due to resemblance to a milk jug. But there is also suggestion is a complex fusion of English and US slang on UK bases where a long walk to the Thunder Box was not appealing, pilots kept a chamber pot in the hut - this erm often took form of a, ahem, milk jug. Making the P-47 a massive hollow heavy pi$$ pot! Seriously tho Hargreaves worth reading of the terror and turmoil the Jabo/Jug wrought in the West. A Thunder Jug. 😅

      Yes, AH often seems to fall short on the sounds, unfortunately (all the more so, given that sounds are of the utmost importance on a warbird). That being said, they do seem to have taken some strides to address the issue (eg taking on Echo 19 for their Hurricane sounds and updating the MKI shortly after release). I see that they have just released another update to their P-51; I’m unsure whether that includes improved sounds and I have yet to try the update. Hopefully things will improve going forwards (and especially for the Lanc!).

    i am a little confused why the 3rd party devs for MSFS make jet fighters, bombers, and ww2 fighters for MSFS, surely it makes more sense to put the modules in DCS? are they difficult to work with or is there less money in combat sims? it would be nice to know.

    • @cmdrfurai9939
      @cmdrfurai9939 Месяц назад +9

      It’s nice to just be able to fly warbirds or military aircraft anywhere in the world and in incredible scenery. DCS does not allow this. There is definitely a financial element too; DCS is far more niche and modules have to be developed to a much higher level as every aircraft (apart from flaming cliffs) is study level. The amount of time and effort to get even a passable module in DCS is insane. DCS players rightly expect a lot from their modules.

    • @fabiena1787
      @fabiena1787 Месяц назад +4

      @cmdrfurai9939 's answer is perfect. You'll see vague models of military aircrafts popping up all the time on thrMSFS marketplace. Developping them seems to be a matter of weeks (obviously not for the good stuff like Flying Iron...), when developping a proper module for DCS takes years, litterally. Just have a look at the incoming F4 from Heatblur (just the manual in itself is incredible) to understand the difference. Abnd top of that, there simply cannot be a payware addon to DCS that hasn't been vetted by Eagle Dynamics. It has to integrate with other systems, have a damage model, and so on.

    • @cikame
      @cikame Месяц назад +3

      The idea of flying military craft outside of war is more of roleplay, training or spectacle such as airshows, i like to fly the Eurofighter up and down Britain landing at military bases, or pretend to be moving military cargo with a larger plane, it's always great to see the Spitfire so i might fly it around the UK and attempt some landings in some grassy fields for the challenge, i'm not a big roleplayer i just use it as an excuse for doing certain flights.
      I play DCS also but that's a lot more about learning to use systems and deploy weapons, i prefer to fly in MSFS.

    • @Malakhit24
      @Malakhit24 Месяц назад

      In addition to what's been said here... Eagle Dynamics, who make DCS, are quite a lot harder to work with than the much more open MSFS platform. Existing third party studios have described their discontent with how ED treats them, and I'm not just talking about Razbam at this point.
