simply the best msfs videos imo. legit one of the few creators i insta watch when i get the notification. keep up the great work, thanks for putting in your time and effort for us!
Thanks very much once again Marshie! It's genuinely appreciated and always a pleasure to hear that someone is enjoying the content to such a degree. I shall try and keep 'em coming ; ) Cheers!
Having bought and THOROUGHLY enjoyed Flying Iron's Spitfire and P-38, I've been waiting for this one. I'm a WWII warbird fan and this Hellcat will pair up nicely with my Milviz Corsair. I'm a particular fan of those birds that had the Pratt & Whitney R2800 Double Wasp. I love those big radial engines. I'm truly hoping Flying Iron makes a Grumman F7F Tigercat as I've wanted a quality version of that plane since forever. I will be adding this beauty to my collection the moment it's released. Wonderful review as always.
Hi 5dmk, Yeah, I think at this point, anything made by FlyingIron is probably going to be a cracker! Who doesn't love a good old radial engine and the Hellcat wears it so well ; ) A Tigercat would be excellent; I'm waiting on a Wilcat myself and I gather one of those is in the works : ) I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks once again and all the best!
@HansGans That's a toughie. Each one is absolutely superb. If pressed where I could only have one of them? I'd keep the Milviz FG-1D Corsair. Not because it's better made than the others but because of my personal fondness for that particular Warbird. It's the one I find myself strapping into the most. I just love it. The F6F is very well done, and after it's most recent updates, flies much better than upon it's initial release. They really tuned it up in that update. The P-38 is almost neck and neck with the Corsair. Flying Iron hit that one out of the park if you ask me. It would be an almost impossible choice for me to have to pick either the Corsiar OR the P-38 as they are my two favorite aircraft of all time. It would be kind of like having to choose one son over another in a custody battle. How do you do that? lol The Corsair would win over the P-38 ONLY because of that big radial engine. I just love that Pratt & Whitney R2800.
@HansGans Ahhh yes. I had a really well done BF-109 in FSX. I, too, would LOVE to get another one with the kind of quality now seen with Flying Iron's or Milviz's aircraft. That would be awesome.
@@FlyingIronSimulations OUTSTANDING!!! Two of my iconic WWII favs. Every aircraft you guys put out is the best of the best in FS2020. I have your Spitfire, P-38...which I LOVE and your new F6F. They are the best 3 aircraft in my extensive hanger of payware planes. You work tirelessly to tune them in after release until they are PERFECT. I can't wait to get both the 109 and 190 from you guys. Your products are the pride of my stable....bar none and you're the ONLY sim aircraft producers that have my purchase guaranteed the moment you begin working on your next release. I KNOW what I'll be getting with you guys and it's always, the best of the best.
@@gotgravelOf course, excellent! A couple of the best teams for all simmers - very much enjoying the Discus and P-38. Looking forward to these upcoming releases.
Hi NTF, Yes, at this point I think FlyingIron have cemented their "day 1 purchase" status for me also. I do hope you're enjoying the Hellcat then! Happy flying and all the best : )
Haha, me too Josh! : P I love a good warbird in the sim (so much fun), especially when it's one recreated as beautifully as this! ; ) Thanks for watching and all the best : )
Incredible historical rendition of this Hellcat "7" flown by Lt. Carl A. Brown Jr. in 1944...amazing work from Flying Iron. By the way real hellcat pilots report that the aircraft is indeed easy to fly!
Yes indeed, a beautiful recreation of the Hellcat and this one looks particularly great! Once again, FlyingIron haven't disappointed ; ) Looking at the F6F, she looks like she'd be a handful haha; thanks as always for your insight good sir! : )
A pleasure as always team FI! Thank you very much for letting me take a look and indeed for all of your hard work on the Hellcat (another instant classic)! Cheers and all the best : )
The sounds are simply excellent aren't they Kyle (and not even finished at the time of recording)! Haha, I'm glad it wasn't just me hearing the coral then (I don't know whether that was caused by the addon or the scenery), I was starting to wonder if I was hearing things haha XD Cheers, all the best! : )
Thanks again Mark! Yep, another absolutely sterling effort from FlyingIron; a consistently excellent dev team, with the Hellcat being arguably their best work to date. Wake Island seemed like the perfect spot to take a look, just a shame there isn't a little bit more of it to explore haha ; ) Cheers as ever! : )
My absolute pleasure on the review, Phil! I’m really glad you’re enjoying the Hellcat (it is indeed an excellent addon). Happy flying and all the best! : )
New to the channel and really enjoy your reviews and previews! Just as a comment for future content, when you post reviews/previews of an aircraft combined with a beautiful cross country flight and talk through the aspects of the aircraft as you fly, in the comments section I think it would be helpful if you posted any MSFS aftermarket add ons that you were running for that video. When folks are enjoying your flight and say a certain effect is nice, or admire something about the terrain, or what not....they'd be able to see what you are using at that time. Thanks! Great channel and thank you so much again for the interesting and well thought-out reviews and analysis.
Hi Wolf71, Thanks very much for the kind words and indeed the feedback! I'm really happy to hear that you're enjoying the content. Your request is certainly a very valid one. I do try to make mention of any addon sceneries etc, that I use during a video and I'm always happy to reply to any comments if people reach out querying anything in a specific video. I shall try to start adding any significant addon details in the video description, but unfortunately I just don't really have the time to give a detailed breakdown for each video. Further to that, I often use a lot fewer addons than people think, generally I just spend a lot of time getting the right weather, lighting conditions and camera angles in my videos (I don't really use any graphical enhancements etc). I hope that's a reasonable compromise / solution. Thank you very much once again, my pleasure on the videos! Cheers and all the best : )
OMG - I can’t wait !!! - I ve only been on MSFS a few months; am an aviation / warbirds enthusiast BUT never dipped into sims till then … my first purchases were the Spitfire & Lightning … and there isn’t much else I’d fly. Can’t wait for more high quality aircrafts like these, and the Hellcat will proudly be part of my hanger collection.
Welcome to the sim then RubberDuck! I do hope you enjoy the Hellcat when it arrives on the console (if you're a warbird fan, I'm sure that you will!). All the best : )
Thanks Peter! Yes, I'm very much looking forward to the 109 also. It's not an aircraft I ever cared much for previously, but DCS gave me a new appreciation for the Messerschmitt (the DCS rendition is excellent). I expect I might enjoy a flight or two in the 109 - when no one is looking of course ; ) Cheers as always!
Yeah, the workshop tab has a lot of potential, I'm really hoping we see FlyingIron flesh it out. Either way though, the Hellcat is another winner : ) Cheers Zaelu, all the best!
My pleasure once again Myles! The Lightning / Spitfire are indeed excellent and the Hellcat is certainly no different. If you did pick the F6F up, I do hope you're enjoying it! All the best : )
Thank you for this ITB. I always look forward to your videos. I not only get a review but a great tutorial on the start up and take off etc. from you. I picked the Hellcat up today and it is a real credit to Flying Irons. I hope some of the special ground handling modelling finds its way to the Spitfire in time.
A pleasure as always Snowy! I'm really glad you find the videos useful in more ways than one, I certainly try and add value where I can (and I'd find it a bit boring, recording a straight-up review anyway haha). I can't profess to be an expert at operating these sorts of aircraft, but I try to demonstrate them as best I can : ) The Hellcat is indeed an excellent effort, I'm glad you're enjoying it! It seems logical that FlyingIron would look to bring the same physics over to the Spit - I'm certainly hoping that they do also. Happy flying and all the best!
Thanks very much Adam, really glad you enjoyed it! The intro text could have been a little bit higher resolution, but I guess the US Navy wasn't too worried about 1080p videos in 1944, let along 4K XD Haha! For sure, the Hellcat's time will come. . . ; )
A B-17 would indeed be great TG! I'd love to see A2A's make a return in MSFS, but a DCS version would be brilliant as well; especially if all of the crew stations were modelled and could be used in multiplayer, that would be great fun (although perhaps the DCS maps are a bit small for proper bombing raids though)! All the best : )
Thanks John, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Indeed, the Hellcat is another cracker from FlyingIron and I've no doubt the aircraft will only get better still. Cheers and happy flying! : )
Hated it on single player though. Until that mod cane out improving the fm. Now I can keep a high speed and flank enemy flights in a pincer rather than a traditional merge
IL2 1946, what a classic! I never actually flew the Hellcat in IL2, but I spent many an hour with it in Combat Flight Simulator 2 haha (hence my fondness for the aircraft). It's certainly nice to see a more beautiful rendition of the F6F and I'm looking forward to spending some more time with the addon. If you pick the Hellcat up, I do hope you enjoy it! All the best : )
Thanks very much Haden, I'm glad you enjoyed it once again! I certainly try my best to make any video interesting in its own right, so it's always a pleasure to hear that someone finds one entertaining, regardless of whether or not they are actually looking to purchase the featured product (and the support of the channel is hugely appreciated of course!). Cheers again! All the best : )
Hehe, no need to be envious anymore then Wanderer (I always feel very lucky to be able to try these things ahead of time etc). If you've picked up the Hellcat, I do hope you're enjoying it! All the best : )
I stopped flying warbirds in MSFS2020 because of the flight model. More specifically, the unrealistic tendency to fly in a straight line even when changing power was negative learning that made it more challenging to fly warbirds in DCS World, and the ground handling for tailwheel planes in MSFS 2020 is absolutely wonky. If Flying Iron has managed to fix these issues with their Hellcat, I might have to pick it up.
Torque of the massive engine (2000HP + 250HP injection) and prop (13'1") is accurately simulated. When you change power, you will need to trim. She will certainly not just magically fly straight without you - the pilot - doing your job. At the same time the Hellcat is easy to fly, which was by original design as the pilots often were cowboys re-trained to be pilots. A smart move by Grumman as the thinking was that they already were used to operating more complicated equipment (tractors and such). Tailwheel physics for the Hellcat are fully custom and in-house developed to replace what MSFS offers out of the box. You are going to have to steer with propwash and airflow over your rudder, and differential braking. Quite easy actually, and natural. We do however offer a "simplified groundhandling" mode in case you don't have rudder pedals. Everyone should be happy we hope. Now, go pick up that cat tomorrow :-)
@@gotgravel what does custom mean in this context? Only custom I know of is those that have an external engine, like the two helicopter ones, and systems one for the Fenix A320 where a different application is run in the background. So it’s strange to hear this, it’s possible now to do things beyond the sim physics limitations without an external program for it? I also stopped buying tail dragger aircraft because of the terrible ground handling in this sim makes tail draggers a nightmare to roll on landing and take off.
@@WhiteHawk77 Nothing external is required, our physics run out of the box. We spend good effort, expertise and time on this as we too were not happy with MSFS taildragger ground physics. This we hope will change all that.
@@gotgravel right, you said that, so you are saying it’s possible to not need an external program to run physics that are not dictated by the SDK now? Not normal sim physics? Or are you saying you just went beyond a preset for how a tail wheel behaves but it’s still SDK? Or are you linking into none standard code that’s an integral part of the plane files that’s overriding that part of the normal sim physics. Sorry, didn’t know something like this was possible is all, I know there are tricks like invisible surfaces etc to make a plane behave a certain way when the SDK doesn’t support particular elements but that’s still within the boundaries of the SDK.
Hi Joshua, The Hellcat is certainly noticeably different to other MSFS warbirds in that regard; not so much during the takeoff as I say but once airborne, any changes in engine power, require a subsequent change in trim. A nice behaviour to see for sure, so hats off to the team on that one! Cheers and all the best : )
I believe so Andrew, as well as a 109. I'm looking forward to both of them and frankly, I think I'll be looking forward to anything FlyingIron puts out at this point haha ; ) Cheers and all the best! : )
An excellent first-look. This one's a no-brainer for me, and I fully agree with you that Flying Iron Simulations are leaders in MSFS, certainly as far as warbirds are concerned.
Thanks very much once again John! Yes, FlyingIron are right up there and making some of the best warbirds for the sim undoubtedly. I do hope you're enjoying the Hellcat! Happy flying and all the best : )
I'm no warbird fan, but the FI Spitfire & Lightning are 2 of my favourite MSFS planes. They're the epitome of quality over quantity. I may pick this up.
Well, it sounds like you're headed towards becoming one good sir! ; ) but absolutely, FlyingIron's output has been nothing but quality thus far. The Hellcat is no exception and whilst I know warbirds aren't everyone's preferred option in the sim, it's hard to say no to a gentlemanly cruise, in something powered by 2 radial engines haha! Happy flying and all the best : )
Funny thing about the Hellcat supercharger installation, according to "R-2800 Pratt & Whitney's Dependable Masterpiece" Grumman did not supply the main blower stage with ram air, only the auxiliary blowers, which is one of the reasons the F6F has poorer low altitude performance than one would expect. The plane runs on the main blower up to 12,000 ft, low speed aux blower from 12,000 to 25,000, and high speed aux blower from 25,000+. On the rom oscillation, I need to rewatch the start, but was the priming pump unlocked? I noticed on the DCS P-47, it's engine gets like that if I forget to lock the primer when I'm done starting the engine. I thing the pump is still wobbling and giving irregular fuel flow.
Thanks very much for the info Harry, interesting to know! The primer appears to be spring-loaded back to the locked position in the F6F, so I don't think it was that. I never actually got to the bottom of what was causing the issue, or indeed whether it was a bug / modelled behaviour (it would be interesting to know). Cheers and all the best! : )
Great nod to the first US aircraft with painted tiger's mouths on them. It only lasted a short time, the squadron was ordered to remove them. They eventually became wildly popular.
Excellent video as all of them I’ve seen have been. Would be nice to see a quick view of all included liveries though while we’re just looking at an idle plane with voice over. Keep up these excellent reviews, this will be a day 1 purchase on Xbox for me!
There are quite a few liveries for you to fly out of the box, including Blue Angles 1 to 4 so you can do formation flights. How could we not? The Hellcat was the Blue Angels first aircraft.
Hi David, Thank you very much for the kind words and indeed the feedback. I generally don't include livery information, purely because I figure it won't be a "deal-breaker" for those looking to purchase, but I agree with you that for these types of aircraft, it would probably be nice to know (and funnily enough I had meant to include the info in this video, but subsequently forgot). Anyway, I'll try and keep you suggestion in mind for future videos, where I feel it appropriate to do so. I do hope you enjoy the Hellcat when it comes to the console! Thanks again and all the best : )
Thanks for the look-see. My father worked on these in WW2. I would like to see exhaust smoke with some flame from exhaust, some vibration in cockpit, maintenance modelled with wear to engine/oil, variable flaps and an animated pilot. I allude to A2A modelling?😉
Cheers David, my pleasure! Good to see you back, it's been a while, I hope you're keeping well! Exhaust smoke during start has now been added, it seems that cockpit vibration is very much being left to the likes of FS Realistic for the time being (although every now and then, a dev does randomly add a few effects in here and there haha). The maintenance page of the EFB shows some promise, but for sure we're some ways off A2A levels of systems modelling at the moment. Nevertheless, the FlyingIron Hellcat is a beautiful rendition of the aircraft and I'm sure it will only continue to improve. All the best! : )
Haha, great minds think alike then Mike! ; ) It's a great spot though for sure - a really nice piece of scenery. I'm glad you enjoyed the video; I hope you're enjoying the Hellcat also! Thanks very much for watching and all the best : )
I'm glad you're enjoying FlyingIron's efforts as well Jan! Indeed, every single one of their addons is a blast to fly and the Spit is still one of my "go-to" addons. I hope you're enjoying the Hellcat every bit as much! Happy flying and all the best : )
@@IntotheBlueSimulations Just downloaded it and hopped in for a quick test flight. After trying to get it started I humbly return to your video. 😀 But jumped into the air for a bit and the engine is an absolute beast the way it rolls the plane when you hit the throttle. Looking forward to spending more time in the cockpit.
Truly a beautiful aircraft. The older microsoft combat flight simulator Pacific pack had the Hell Cat among other aircraft and it was never like this. The difference is like night and day.
Indeed Andrew! Haha, it was in fact Microsoft's Combat Flight Simulator 2, that gave me a fondness for the Wildcat / Hellcat. I still remember spending many hours flying both of those aircraft in both CFS2 and FS2002 / 2004. As you say, how far we have come! All the best : )
The Hellcat. This flying fighting machine probably gave many Japanese aviators nightmares. At the beginning of the war against Japan in 1941 the Zero was the best of the best but once the Corsairs and Hellcats entered service the Japanese were no match.
Indeed TY! It wasn't until I read the little notes, that FlyingIron provide during the loading screen, that I came to realise just how dominant the Hellcat was in the Pacific. Only a handful of F6F's were lost in aerial combat it seems, quite a testament to Grumman's design! All the best : )
Thanks, another great video! Curious, is there often a big difference between acft on market place vs directly with 3rd party developers. I'm on XBOX so I'm assuming I need to consider this when reviewing acft reviews. Thanks, J
Thanks very much Jherc! My absolute pleasure and I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Usually, there is one major difference between Marketplace aircraft and addons from other vendors: Any aircraft purchased on the Marketplace, will have all weapons, gunsights, “lewd” imagery and certain military insignia removed etc. Obviously, these Marketplace restrictions tend to primary affect addons of a military nature. Otherwise, addons should generally be the same between one purchase method and another. I hope that helps? All the best : )
Thank you for detailed review, even if you call it preview :-D Instant buy from me, same like with everything from FlyingIron. I hope they will do proper Mustang someday. Cheers.
Haha, it did end up becoming a bit of a review didn't it Tomas XD Yep, FlyingIron have reached the point now, where I would have absolutely no qualms buying from them on the first day (if I wasn't already reviewing haha). They've been consistently excellent and as I mentioned during the video, their support of products after release has been exemplary (they also readily take user feedback on board etc). A Mustang would be brilliant - in fact I have rather a long list of aircraft I would like to see from them ; ) I hope you're enjoying the Hellcat. Happy flying!
My only complaints with the p-38 on Xbox are no engine smoke/heat haze and the lower res livery decals/textures but a small price to pay for amazing flight dynamics, sound, and systems modeling. This looks and sounds amazing. Will they include a GPS option for long range touring like the p-38? Do I need another warbird? No. Will just starting this engine give me an ear to ear grin? Most likely.
Yes there will be a GNS530 included in the Hellcat, so the larger cousin of what you are used to in the Spit and P-38. Decals, textures and material design overall are of the highest standard in the Hellcat, and startup smoke was added a few days ago (after the ITB preview vid). The smoke will be blown away once the engine starts.
Hi Tickle, The Hellcat is certainly another step up, when it comes to the sort of details you mention. I really couldn't find too much to fault visually and it's great to hear that smoke has been added. As you say, those are the sort of details that are nice to see, but every FlyingIron product is thoroughly solid product at its core. As mentioned by GG, the GNS530 is included in place of the gunsight, should you so wish. Haha! I hope the Hellcat put a smile on your face then. All the best ; )
British equipment is legitimate for the F6F, though not primary. The Fleet Air Arm ended up using Hellcats, Corsiars* and Avengers extensively during WWII. It would be cool if Flying Iron is able to include some of those liveries. And, unlike the Corsair, which the FAA had to clip the wings to fit in their carriers, the F6F fit without modifications, so it's really just a paint job difference between the two. *As I understand it, it was actually the FAA that figured out how to operate Corsiars from carriers. The Corsair in particular has poor visibility on landing and a tendency to bounce, so the USN handed them over to land squadrons and the Marines, initially. It wasn't until the British had worked out effective carrier operating procedures that the USN decided to try using them shipboard.
Indeed Harry. I did make mention of that during the video and I'm certainly happy to have the British option, but it would be nice to see a US pilot model also (since all bar one of the liveries represent US F6F's). It was really nice to see the FAA livery though, I was wondering whether or not the Royal Navy would get a look in. I gather what you say regarding the Corsair is true. I did quite a bit of reading ahead of my MILVIZ FG-1D review and it seems the Brits did indeed lay down the groundwork for carrier operations in the aircraft - Rule Britannia! : P Cheers again! : )
12:39 - Whatever this fuel pressure issue is with this plane, it seems to hit me every single time I fly, but the engine never seems to work it out. Inevitably the engine stalls out for no apparent reason for me, making this plane effectively worthless for any flight lasting longer than about 5 minutes. I check the fuel pressure, I even turn the fuel pump back on, and I follow the checklist. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong.
Hi Whitworth, Could it be possible that it’s a power setting issue that you’re experiencing instead? I have flown the Hellcat subsequently and not had any similar behaviour, as experienced during this flight. Engine damage is modelled on the aircraft though, so if you try and run the Double Wasp at full chat for too long, it will eventually give up on you (and 5 minutes sounds about right). Just a thought. . . I hope you manage to get things figured out. All the best!
Cheers Ramy! I do indeed use VSync, with frames locked at 60fps. I can run the sim nice and smoothly with it off, but then I get quite a bit of screen tearing. I only run the sim at 1080p, so it’s quite easy to get high frames / decent performance. I hope that clarifies things a little. All the best! : )
Not actually sure on that one I'm afraid TG. I tend to have gyro drift turned off in the sim. I'd imagine the likes of FlyingIron would have modelled it, but I'm not at my main PC currently, so I'm afraid I can't check. All the best!
Lovely review as always. I purchased the Flying Iron Hellcat over the weekend and I have been pretty thrilled with it. I believe the cockpit sounds and other tweaks should make it excellent shortly. I am enamored with the final results of the P38. It is as close, in my opinion, to an A2A warbird simulation that we fell in love with in other sims. It sure would be cool if we were to get a carrier to perform actual take off and landing ops. It seems FI has engineered this in to the airplane. I do find the R2800 is pretty fragile though. I have burned through a couple of engines and major virtual bucks to overhaul them. This is flying conservative power numbers and now I find you have to fly with the oil shutter wide open or the engine oil temp stress will rise! I remember somewhere reading how tough the R2800 engine was engineered to help be forgiving to all of the fresh new USN pilots who checked out in the Hellcat back in 1943-45 as well as sustain pretty incredible battle damage and become a key to the weapons that won the war. Keep up the great work sir and looking forward to the next review!
Thanks very much Andy, I'm glad you enjoyed it! The Hellcat is indeed shaping up to be another FlyingIron classic. I haven't had the chance to try the update myself yet, but I'm sure it will only be another step in the right direction (if the FI Spit is anything to go by). No carrier from FI sadly (I agree that it would be nice), but there are quite a few options available over on Flightsim.to these days - worth checking out. Yes, I probably don't have as much time in the aircraft as yourself, but I've killed one R2800 and limped home with another haha. To me, it does seem a bit too ready to quit and turn into a bag of bolts. I'm sure FI will keep tweaking it though (again as they did with both the Spit and the Lightning). I can't say I know all that much about the R2800, but I was astonished to read (whilst studying up for the review) just how successful the Hellcat actually was! It seems you were just about as safe in the cokpit of the F6F, as any of place in the theatre of WWII haha. Thanks very much once again and all the best! : )
@@IntotheBlueSimulations Hello again and thanks for the reply. Flying Iron has released the first Hellcat update and the cooling and damage modeling seems to have been tweaked and now after the update I have not yet rendered an antique virtual A/C engine in to slag lol... FI also made some other changes to the modeling. Have a great week sir.
Hi Cairl, Are you still having issues? Are you sure you have the tailwheel unlocked (lever at the back left of the cockpit) before taxi? That sounds like the most likely culprit. I hope that helps! All the best : )
Ahh, my mistake then (I see in actuality, the flaps are actuated as a function of airspeed). Thanks for the info ColFork! I believe the F6F in CFS2, did have the ability to set the flap in stages, presumably Microsoft modelled that incorrectly at the time. . . Thanks again and all the best : )
great (p)review as always! I like the Hellcat very much, I suppose I will find some place for it in my hangar next to the Spit. :) btw I hope you are getting yourself ready for the anniversary relase, there will be a lot of stuff to test!!! I can’t wait tbh.
Thanks again Péter! Haha, well as the team points out; "with the wings folded, the Hellcat should fit quite nicely in any hangar" XD I miiight actually be away on holiday during the anniversary update : / I'll be gutted if I miss it, looks like there's going to a tonne of fun to be had (the trickiest thing will be deciding what to fly first haha)! Cheers! : )
@@IntotheBlueSimulations indeed, gliders, helicopters, C-3! it’s like the FS2004 line up copy-paste. but I’m really curious what will be your opinion on the “first study level default airplane”. 🙂
I loved FS2004, so I can live with that! : D I’ve only heard good things about Ini-builds, so I’m certainly looking forward to trying out the classic Airbus. I actually reached out to them some time ago, to see whether they might like me to feature the A321 - they said no haha. Ahh well. . . XD
Hi Octane, I take it you may have figured things out by now? One of the levers is essentially "fold / unfold" and the other one locks the system "on / off" (I forget which lever is which off the top of my head I'm afraid - one is located to the right of the console in front of the pilot and the other on the bottom RHS of the cockpit). So, you'll need to keep one lever (I think the one in front of the pilot) in the unlocked position and then reverse the position of the other lever to unfold the wings once again. Apologies for the iffy reply, but it's quite hard to remember the exact details, without having the addon in front of me haha. I hope that helps a little. All the best! : )
This paint schemes was used in real life. But after the ship they were stationed on sank in battle. They landed on the other carriers and the navy had problems with pilots painting their aircraft so the captain demanded that the nose art should be removed
Ah man RUclips hasn't been recommending me your videos for quite a while. The new audio setup you talked about in Discord certainly sounds nice. Talking about Discord... Could you perhaps open up an announcements channel there for new videos? The hellcat is looking really nice although is it just me or do the starters in their aircraft always sound quite similar if not identical? As always thanks for the video!
Hey Dream! Haha, ahh man, the wonders of the algorithm eh. . . I'm glad you think the new mic is an improvement; it took a bit of tweaking and it does tend to pick up more than I would like, but I also think that it's a step in the right direction overall (it would have been hard to go backwards from the previous mic I was using haha). At your request sir, I have indeed created a Discord page for new uploads - so now you have no excuses! : P I hope you're keeping well! Thanks as always for stopping by : ) P.S. Yes, I thought the same haha - the starter sound is identical. To be fair though, as I mentioned in the video, FI's sound engineer was sick, so perhaps it was just a stand-in sound for the time being. . . Cheers!
@@IntotheBlueSimulations The new Discord channel is indeed helpful! I hope so too that they switch the sounds up a bit. Well if it is accurate to do so. Aren't you using a Logitech headset now?
Ah great, happy to hear it man! I am indeed using a Logitech Pro X. I’m sure one day I’ll have to bite the bullet and get a proper mic, but the headset seems to be doing the job for now at least : )
Looks and sounds very nice. Any first impressions on how it companies to the Milviz Corsair? There's only so much room in my hanger for WW2 carrier aircraft 😃.
Hi Doc, Apologies for the slow reply - it sounds like you have already picked up the Hellcat at this point? Probably all I can say now is, I do hope you're enjoying it haha! Happy flying and all the best : )
Recently joined -first time comment. Your reviews are absolutely in-depth and factual. I love the work you put in thank you for doing that for the community. I really would like flying iron to put together a B 17 or a B 25 Mitchell or the Mosquito. Do you really need three copies of the same plane in general aviation from multiple developers? I would hope they would realize that different offerings will attract different fans from different “ages”!!! Really first class work my friend! Thank you
Hello Robert, Thank you very much indeed for the kind words and welcome aboard! I'm really glad you're enjoying the content. I would love to see any of the aircraft you mention and in fact someone did reach out to me some time ago regarding a B-17, that all seems to have gone cold, though I've no doubt we'll see one in the sim eventually. MSFS does indeed seem to have a peculiar problem with developers doubling up on the same aircraft types - rather shooting themselves in the foot you would think. . . Thank you very much once again, my absolute pleasure! All the best : )
It had a tailwheel lock but no steering. The ease of ground handling is partly due to ITB's skill no doubt, as well as our custom groundphysics, and perhaps above all...it is how the Hellcat is supposed to behave. It liked to go straight (yes there is still P-Factor). The fact that you have full 3-axis trim controls at your command will help as well.
I can't claim to know more than the dev's Lee, but the aircraft's ground handling is certainly noticeably different (easier), as compared with the likes of the Corsair, Spitfire etc. The custom coding has clearly paid off - the F6F didn't exhibit any of the strange behaviours I've come across with other taildraggers in the sim. All the best : )
@@IntotheBlueSimulations I got it wrong :-) I have just downloaded it and am liking it so far. I have had some problems getting the undercarriage down however. I am thinking it will not lower until a certain speed but not sure about that.
Haha no worries, I wasn’t too sure myself either. I’m glad you’re enjoying the Hellcat thus far. I suspect the gear may well be modelled, not to lower above a certain speed (no idea whether or not that’s true to life though - the flaps behave in a similar fashion, which is accurate). So long as the gear is ultimately coming down? Happy flying! : )
Hello hope you are doing well ... i have a problem please when i start my MSFS in game does not show up paywer city land mark example dubai city just paid in market place some time show up same time show old version when restart my MSFS coming back . how to fix. thanks for your help
Hi Desert, I'm afraid I'm not really sure why the scenery would be showing up on some occasions and not others, if you're seeing it at all, then it must be installed correctly. . . Are you running two instances of the sim perhaps (eg using both the console and the PC, Windows and Steam etc)? The only other thing I can think of, perhaps sometimes when starting your sim, it isn't connecting to the internet and hence not showing everything correctly on the Marketplace? I'm afraid that's all I can think of really, I've never seen any similar behaviour myself. I hope that helps in some way - sorry I can't offer up any other ideas. I hope you manage to get things sorted : )
Hello Nick, I’m sure it probably wasn’t haha but, I can only work within the bounds of the checklist I have at hand (in this case using the FlyingIron checklist) and the sim itself (for example, I know a lot of these warbirds are actually started with the mixture set to idle-cutoff, but that generally doesn’t work in the sim). I’m glad you enjoyed the video otherwise though. Thanks very much for watching and all the best : )
Dear Sir, indeed that is correct. Thanks again for a great video. I hope you will enjoy our Hellcat when it comes out on DCS. One of my favourite fighters of all time. Kind regards, Nick
Cheers Nick, my pleasure on the video! If I can one day be of any help previewing / demonstrating the DCS Hellcat, please do feel free to get in touch (I’m always threatening that I’ll get around to making more DCS content haha). Many thanks again. Have a great day!
10:40 dude wtf look how tiny the pilot is compared to this thing damnnn. For some reason in my mind these WW2 birds are small, guess it must be because I don't see them often
Yeah, the F6F is a bit of a beast! I can totally empathise though Lluvik; the first time I saw even a Spitfire in person, I was quite shocked by the size of the thing haha! All the best : )
It is a real shame isn't it Stew! I'd like to see Microsoft do the same as they did previously, i.e. create a separate combat flight sim, with cross-compatibility etc. Sadly, there doesn't seem to be any motivation on their end to do so. . . All the best : )
I believe the issue may have been raised before Jason and it was a flat “no” from Asobo. I wouldn’t be surprised if a 3rd party came up with something at some point though - that’s what happened in P3D ; ) Cheers!
My pleasure Amir! Unfortunately the scenery is only available from Flightsim.to I’m afraid (so far as I am aware), ie it’s not currently available on the Xbox. Cheers and all the best : )
I am indeed Patrick, though sadly I've never flown anything nearly as cool as the Hellcat! Nonetheless, happy to hear that I give off some semblance of competence XD Cheers and all the best! : )
Yes, that will be great won't it Cjm! I gather Aeroplane Heaven is working on a Lancaster and I had heard some murmurings about a B-17 from someone else - but sadly that all seems to have gone quiet. No doubt we will start to see these sorts of aircraft arriving at some point though : ) All the best!
Haha, do you know KC, I'd never even considered that such a thing might exist (obvious now that you mention it though)! Having just looked at some pics of the H-34, I had no idea what was buried away under that big bulbous nose XD I'm sure we'll see one in the sim at some point. . . Cheers and all the best : )
For the live of all that is holy..... please add combat to MSFS Microsoft. Flying a Hellcat just isn't the same if you can't dogfight a Zero. 😪 Fond memories of playing Hellcats Over the Pacific on my Mac II back in the day. Stull have the box and manual.
Hi Ardy, Apologies for the slow reply, it seems the dev's beat me to it haha. As mentioned, the Hellcat is fully carrier-capable, without the needs for external programs etc : ) All the best!
Yeah, that would be brilliant Milsurpguy, although personally I still enjoy my warbirds in MSFS. Never say never; FlyingIron are currently in the process of developing their first addon for DCS as we speak ; ) Cheers, all the best!
Microsoft blew it historically. Hellcats with the "forbidden nose art" (sharks' teeth) flew from CVL-23 Prinston, (sank at Lete gulf). The Hellcats of that time were tri-color blue F6F-3s. Am I incorrect here? I may be. Anyone???????
Microsoft didn't make this F6F Hellcat model, Flying Iron Simulations did. In non-historical flight sims like this it's common for the developers of a plane to include a range of appropriately close enough style paint jobs to give us variety in our modern flight sim. If you're having trouble enjoying this paint job on an F6F-5 then you can either pretend you're flying one repainted for airshow appearances to impress the crowd with the teeth, or choose one of the other dozen available paint jobs - the sharks teeth one isn't the default.
Hello Robert, OtterNZ, has summed things up quite nicely: I think some of the liveries have simply been included for the sake of historical interest (if not historical accuracy). I hope that clarifies things a little. Cheers, all the best : )
Haha, they can't be more superhuman than the DCS AI surely Rhys? XD Well, the FlyingIron F6F affords the opportunity for some slightly more relaxing Hellcat flights I guess hehe. Don't know whether you were planning on picking the aircraft up, but if you do, I do hope you enjoy it! All the best : )
@@IntotheBlueSimulations I don't have fs2020 so its unlikely for a while I have since fixed my Hellcat problem using a mod from the nice folks at SAS. However when it comes to AI, here's a list: No engine overheat, No G limits, No overspeed, Seem to have perfect visibility and always gun for the player to name a few. If DCS is worse than that well then fair enough.
Haha, I don’t know that DCS is *that* bad, but it’s not far off. The AI seems to have the eyes of a Hawk, only uses a simplified flight model - so they don’t bleed off energy in manoeuvres etc, those pesky pilots also have sniper-like accuracy and can practically fly the aircraft with one wing and a failed engine XD To be fair, Eagle Dynamics is slowly addressing those issues though. . . Cheers!
She looks amazing just by looking at the thumbnail. I love how this sim is slowly bringing an era of great warplanes alive. I really wish someone brings the Heinkel III, the B17 and all this iconic twin engine bombers. I just really love seeing a twin engine roaring in the air view from the cockpit. Will definately be picking this one up soon. Cheers mate!
Haha, my mother was once levelled with the same criticism at a dinner party (and didn't much care for it) - I guess we know where I get it from then ; ) Commentary is actually my least favourite part of YouTubing, but I figure "dead air" is a crime and I try to fill the viewer in on the product / flight as best I can. I've no doubt my style isn't to everyone's tastes, but sadly it's not possible to please everyone 100% of the time. All the best
simply the best msfs videos imo. legit one of the few creators i insta watch when i get the notification. keep up the great work, thanks for putting in your time and effort for us!
Thanks very much once again Marshie! It's genuinely appreciated and always a pleasure to hear that someone is enjoying the content to such a degree. I shall try and keep 'em coming ; )
Cheers!
Hi 5dmk,
Yeah, I think at this point, anything made by FlyingIron is probably going to be a cracker! Who doesn't love a good old radial engine and the Hellcat wears it so well ; )
A Tigercat would be excellent; I'm waiting on a Wilcat myself and I gather one of those is in the works : )
I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
@@5dmkiii60 I'm sure you'll be glad to hear that we are currently working on the 109 AND 190 😎

Yes, at this point I think FlyingIron have cemented their "day 1 purchase" status for me also. I do hope you're enjoying the Hellcat then!

Haha, me too Josh! : P
I love a good warbird in the sim (so much fun), especially when it's one recreated as beautifully as this! ; )
Thanks for watching and all the best : )
Incredible historical rendition of this Hellcat "7" flown by Lt. Carl A. Brown Jr. in 1944...amazing work from Flying Iron. By the way real hellcat pilots report that the aircraft is indeed easy to fly!
Yes indeed, a beautiful recreation of the Hellcat and this one looks particularly great! Once again, FlyingIron haven't disappointed ; )
Looking at the F6F, she looks like she'd be a handful haha; thanks as always for your insight good sir! : )
Great video mate, thanks for checking out our plane!
A pleasure as always team FI! Thank you very much for letting me take a look and indeed for all of your hard work on the Hellcat (another instant classic)!
Cheers and all the best : )
Sounds were fantastic, right down to the crunching of the crushed coral runway.
The sounds are simply excellent aren't they Kyle (and not even finished at the time of recording)!
Haha, I'm glad it wasn't just me hearing the coral then (I don't know whether that was caused by the addon or the scenery), I was starting to wonder if I was hearing things haha XD
Cheers, all the best! : )
WOW what a beast. FSI is well underway to another superb aircraft. GREAT intro and airfield.
You nailed another review! !! !!!
Thanks again Mark! Yep, another absolutely sterling effort from FlyingIron; a consistently excellent dev team, with the Hellcat being arguably their best work to date. Wake Island seemed like the perfect spot to take a look, just a shame there isn't a little bit more of it to explore haha ; )
Cheers as ever! : )
One of my favourite aircraft, an absolute pleasure to fly. The modeling textures, and sound are all excellent. Thanks for the review.
Hi Wolf71,
Thanks very much for the kind words and indeed the feedback!
Happy flying and all the best!
What an intro - sets the scene perfectly! I've got two words for you.... Mach Loop 😃
Thanks very much Adam, really glad you enjoyed it! The intro text could have been a little bit higher resolution, but I guess the US Navy wasn't too worried about 1080p videos in 1944, let along 4K XD
Haha! For sure, the Hellcat's time will come. . . ; )
Kind of wish a B17 was in any sim. Was hoping DCS would make one, as they already have the basic model.

Hi Joshua,
The Hellcat is certainly noticeably different to other MSFS warbirds in that regard; not so much during the takeoff as I say but once airborne, any changes in engine power, require a subsequent change in trim. A nice behaviour to see for sure, so hats off to the team on that one!
Cheers and all the best : )

Well, it sounds like you're headed towards becoming one good sir! ; )
but absolutely, FlyingIron's output has been nothing but quality thus far.
@@gotgravelI expect nothing less than greatness from you guys. I’m just impatient and want to see more of it 😂
Hi David,
Thank you very much for the kind words and indeed the feedback.

Cheers.
Haha, it did end up becoming a bit of a review didn't it Tomas XD
Yep, FlyingIron have reached the point now, where I would have absolutely no qualms buying from them on the first day (if I wasn't already reviewing haha). They've been consistently excellent and as I mentioned during the video, their support of products after release has been exemplary (they also readily take user feedback on board etc).
A Mustang would be brilliant - in fact I have rather a long list of aircraft I would like to see from them ; )
I hope you're enjoying the Hellcat.
Hi Tickle,
The Hellcat is certainly another step up, when it comes to the sort of details you mention.
Cheers again!
Hi Whitworth,
Could it be possible that it’s a power setting issue that you’re experiencing instead? I have flown the Hellcat subsequently and not had any similar behaviour, as experienced during this flight. Engine damage is modelled on the aircraft though, so if you try and run the Double Wasp at full chat for too long, it will eventually give up on you (and 5 minutes sounds about right). Just a thought. . .
I hope you manage to get things figured out. All the best!
The external rpm sounds could be a little faster at full throttle
Nice! Do you have an fps limiter, gsync/vsync? Your videos always look so smooth
Will it have instrument drift on the gyro?
Cheers for the update Andy! And to you : )
How to taxi and move the tail? i cant seem to steer the aircraft
Hi Cairl,
Are you still having issues? Are you sure you have the tailwheel unlocked (lever at the back left of the cockpit) before taxi? That sounds like the most likely culprit.
I hope that helps! All the best : )
8:13 The Hellcat only has two stages, up and down. Aircraft is correct.
"I'm a Brit & I'm obliged to like the Spitfire."
As an American, I'm obliged to like the Hellcat.
great (p)review as always! I like the Hellcat very much, I suppose I will find some place for it in my hangar next to the Spit. :) btw I hope you are getting yourself ready for the anniversary relase, there will be a lot of stuff to test!!! I can’t wait tbh.
Thanks again Péter! Haha, well as the team points out; "with the wings folded, the Hellcat should fit quite nicely in any hangar" XD
I miiight actually be away on holiday during the anniversary update : / I'll be gutted if I miss it, looks like there's going to a tonne of fun to be had (the trickiest thing will be deciding what to fly first haha)!
Cheers! : )
@@IntotheBlueSimulations indeed, gliders, helicopters, C-3! it’s like the FS2004 line up copy-paste. but I’m really curious what will be your opinion on the “first study level default airplane”. 🙂
I loved FS2004, so I can live with that! : D
I’ve only heard good things about Ini-builds, so I’m certainly looking forward to trying out the classic Airbus. I actually reached out to them some time ago, to see whether they might like me to feature the A321 - they said no haha. Ahh well. . . XD
How do you unfold wings after you fold them?
Hi Octane,
I take it you may have figured things out by now? One of the levers is essentially "fold / unfold" and the other one locks the system "on / off" (I forget which lever is which off the top of my head I'm afraid - one is located to the right of the console in front of the pilot and the other on the bottom RHS of the cockpit). So, you'll need to keep one lever (I think the one in front of the pilot) in the unlocked position and then reverse the position of the other lever to unfold the wings once again. Apologies for the iffy reply, but it's quite hard to remember the exact details, without having the addon in front of me haha.
I hope that helps a little. All the best! : )
@@IntotheBlueSimulations I learned it thank you by the way.
Glad to hear you got it sorted! Happy flying : )
This paint schemes was used in real life. But after the ship they were stationed on sank in battle. They landed on the other carriers and the navy had problems with pilots painting their aircraft so the captain demanded that the nose art should be removed
Thanks for the info Aidan; it’s always great to hear these sorts of little historical facts. Much appreciated, all the best! : )
I hope you're keeping well! Thanks as always for stopping by : )
We made sure the folding wings work so she will fit in crowded hangars.
@@gotgravel 😂 that has sold it to me straight away 😃
I can confirm it fits in the hanger. If you fold the wings. 😀
Haha, it seems GG deleted their comment sadly (I did see it at the time), but that was classic XD
Hi Doc,
Apologies for the slow reply - it sounds like you have already picked up the Hellcat at this point? Probably all I can say now is, I do hope you're enjoying it haha!
Happy flying and all the best : )
Recently joined -first time comment. Your reviews are absolutely in-depth and factual. I love the work you put in thank you for doing that for the community. I really would like flying iron to put together a B 17 or a B 25 Mitchell or the Mosquito. Do you really need three copies of the same plane in general aviation from multiple developers? I would hope they would realize that different offerings will attract different fans from different “ages”!!!
Really first class work my friend! Thank you
Hello Robert,
Thank you very much indeed for the kind words and welcome aboard!
I think the F6f had tailwheel steering which explains why the take-off run was easier to control than some other WW2 taildraggers in the sim.
Flattery will get you everywhere good sir, ha! ; )
Great video thanks!
My pleasure once again, sir! I’m really glad you enjoyed it. Cheers : )
Hello hope you are doing well ... i have a problem please when i start my MSFS in game does not show up paywer city land mark example dubai city just paid in market place some time show up same time show old version when restart my MSFS coming back . how to fix. thanks for your help
Hi Desert,
I'm afraid I'm not really sure why the scenery would be showing up on some occasions and not others, if you're seeing it at all, then it must be installed correctly. .
Dear Sir, not quite the correct startup procedure of the R2800. Nice video thank you. Kind regards, Nick
Hello Nick,
I’m sure it probably wasn’t haha but, I can only work within the bounds of the checklist I have at hand (in this case using the FlyingIron checklist) and the sim itself (for example, I know a lot of these warbirds are actually started with the mixture set to idle-cutoff, but that generally doesn’t work in the sim).

I don't understand why MSFS can not make a combat sim addon.
IKR! Warbirds aren't the same if you can't "war" with them. (Edit: fix autocorrect).
It is a real shame isn't it Stew! I'd like to see Microsoft do the same as they did previously, i.e. create a separate combat flight sim, with cross-compatibility etc. Sadly, there doesn't seem to be any motivation on their end to do so. . .
All the best : )
@@IntotheBlueSimulations Yeah if they had a combat sim like DCS and IL2, it would be amazing.
@@IntotheBlueSimulations maybe we could start a petition?, let them know how much interest there is.

Yes, that will be great won't it Cjm! I gather Aeroplane Heaven is working on a Lancaster and I had heard some murmurings about a B-17 from someone else - but sadly that all seems to have gone quiet. No doubt we will start to see these sorts of aircraft arriving at some point though : )

I wish the P-38 and F6F we're made for DCS, Warbirds are useless is MS flight sim. I'd pay 80$ for each.
Yeah, that would be brilliant Milsurpguy, although personally I still enjoy my warbirds in MSFS.
Never say never; FlyingIron are currently in the process of developing their first addon for DCS as we speak ; )
Cheers, all the best!
Hello Robert,
OtterNZ, has summed things up quite nicely: I think some of the liveries have simply been included for the sake of historical interest (if not historical accuracy).
I hope that clarifies things a little. Cheers, all the best : )
Could anyone imagine fighting a Zero at 140kts? Lol wtf the top speed was almost 400mph, why are we not seeing anything close to that?
I was just flying this in Il2 1946 and complaining how the ai are superhuman. I swear youtube is listening to me.
Haha, they can't be more superhuman than the DCS AI surely Rhys? XD
Well, the FlyingIron F6F affords the opportunity for some slightly more relaxing Hellcat flights I guess hehe.
The AI seems to have the eyes of a Hawk, only uses a simplified flight model - so they don’t bleed off energy in manoeuvres etc, those pesky pilots also have sniper-like accuracy and can practically fly the aircraft with one wing and a failed engine XD
To be fair, Eagle Dynamics is slowly addressing those issues though. . .
Cheers!
Not DCS, il2.
