He has been studying music since he was 5 years old and absolutely loves music! At the time of this performance, he had been singing this particular song for at least 5 years and perhaps more. He trained in opera (classical music) but also in contemporary music. Though he was offered a position at the opera in his country, he turned it down as he preferred to mix musical genres and to use his full vocal range to make his own style of music. Great summary! I like that you have put links to back up your statements because it's hard for people to believe that Dimash is as good as he is! I've watched many many vocal coaches and singers react to Dimash and they are pretty much all amazed at the way he has perfected his talent!
I didn't read all the other comments. Your comments about practice - Dimash started voice and piano lessions at age 5. His parents, both significant members of the music community, discovered that Dimash had perfect pitch. Notes that he could at that age reach, were echoed perfectly! He was placed in a music program especially created for young people. The results: currently dimash practices a min of 3 hours a day and has done so since he entered middle school. Dimash speakts fluently in 2 languages, broken in 3 more languages and has performances (Singing) in 13 languages. He graduated university with degree in clasical music, completed his Masters degree in contemporary music, and is currently working on his Doctorate on composing and arranging music. Dimash sings crossover, and yes he trained for years in opera as well as classical jazz and pop. He has a Masters Degree in Musical Composition, and can turn any cover into a masterpiece. SOS is from a French rock opera, that Dimash has used as a signature song since he was 12-15. He was onstage at 2 and realised that this was his destiny, and learned piano and singing at 5 years old at an academy in his homeland Kazakhstan, and practises for 3 hours a day ever since, swims underwater to develop his diaphragm for 1 hour per day, and bursts out in song lots of time per day, so his voice is always warmed up. I don’t think anyone else has ever done all this before, and you can see the benefit of all that focus and drive that he was born with. As well, he learned soccer and Tai-kwan-doe, and is 6ft 3” tall, and can stretch his breath out until tomorrow, has extra long vocal chords, etc., etc.

Welcome to the world of Dimash! I really really liked watching your reaction! I can see that you will enjoy Dimash's other songs. He has been studying music since he was 5 years old and absolutely loves music! At the time of this performance, he had been singing this particular song for at least 5 years and perhaps more. He trained in opera (classical music) but also in contemporary music. Though he was offered a position at the opera in his country, he turned it down as he preferred to mix musical genres and to use his full vocal range to make his own style of music. Each of his songs is different. (If you've seen one Dimash song you have definitely not seen them all! )He comes from a close family and is a humble, kind and loving human being. For me (as I have told in previous comments to Dimash reactions) it took several weeks to accept that Dimash was a real person and not a cyber attack against my computer. And this is no joke! Professionals say that one should be happy and greatful if one is lucky enough to experience the so called Florence/Stendhals syndrom, triggered by an incomprehensible piece of art. The song comes from the famous Canadian-French rock opera 'Starmania' 1978, well known in French-speaking countries) and is one of the most difficult songs to sing and in 2017 made Dimash a mega-star overnight.
That's how it all started: In 2017 Dimash received a wildcard for the “The Singer” competition in China. He was the youngest participant ever (22 years old). Foreign participants were actually forbidden at that time. The director ignored the ban, believing Dimash would only stay 1 or 2 episodes and then go home.The competition is not a talent show. Only professional, award-winning singers participate. Nobody knew or heard Dimash before and he had to start first ... and after his first song "SOS" Dimash captured the hearts of over 600 million viewers and a mega-star was born overnight. The next day bodyguards were at his door and now he is a superstar but without airs... just our Dimash.
The competition consisted of 14 rounds over 4 months. The jury consisted of 500 spectators who knew music, not just your average "Joe". They were well screened to be sure they would be able to judge the musicians fairly and competently. With up to 1 billion people watching this TV program and international interest was aroused. The performances were uploaded to RUclips ... and so we became Dimash's Dears.
The Chinese organizers planned... but Dimash came, sang and stayed ... for the next 3 years in China ... but he only finished second in the competition because he is not Chinese (conditions have changed: 2018, Jessie J. Won).

I didn't read all the other comments. Your comments about practice - Dimash started voice and piano lessions at age 5. His parents, both significant members of the music community, discovered that Dimash had perfect pitch. Notes that he could at that age reach, were echoed perfectly! He was placed in a music program especially created for young people. The results: currently dimash practices a min of 3 hours a day and has done so since he entered middle school. Dimash speakts fluently in 2 languages, broken in 3 more languages and has performances (Singing) in 13 languages. He graduated university with degree in clasical music, completed his Masters degree in contemporary music, and is currently working on his Doctorate on composing and arranging music. Dimash Qudaibergen was born on May 24, 1994, in Aktobe, Kazakhstan into musical royalty. Height: 1.91m; 6' 3'. Grandfather played professional dombra, grandmother was a teacher and sings.

According to Kazakh tradition, he was raised by his grandparents (Mama and Papa) and for a long time he kept his parents as his brother ans sister in law. They all live together in one house.

He has been training in music since he was 5 years old, has a perfect pitch. He is university-educated with degrees in piano, classical/opera, contemporary music, pop, and jazz with a major in vocal. Dimash did not fit the traditional image of a singer in Kazakhstan and was criticized. Even his voice teacher forbade him to sing in falsetto ( Interview with his voice teacher - ruclips.net/video/V7hkcKYAnhg/видео.html ) ... but he was not deterred, won many national and international competitions.
In 2016, Dimash turned down the offer of the National Opera in Astana because he wanted to go his own way ... He created his own genre: neoclassical combined with classical, folklore and other styles such as pop, rock, R&B and jazz. We laypeople say 'Popera'. 😃
Dimash is independent and has full artistic control over himself. He founded his own company named Dimash Ali.
In 2017, Dimash surprised everyone in China. He opened the eyes of his critical compatriots. Today Dimash is a 'cultural ambassador' for his country and a 'national treasure' (not an official title). He himself is a proud Kazakh and patriot.
Dimash plays at least 7 instruments, traditional dombra is a must in his family. He speaks Kazakh (mother tongue) and Russian without accent (second language in Kazakhstan), is learning English and Mandarin. He says dancing and Mandarin are difficult for him. So far, he sings in 13 languages, trains his voice for 3 hours every day... but Dimash said: "You don't need to know how hard I've worked, you just need to enjoy the results".
Experts consider Dimash to be a lyrical baritone with a typically long range. Dimash says of himself that he is a tenor. Some believe that he does not sing his high notes as a countertenor but as a natural soprano. He is the first singer to sing all 5 voices: bass, baritone, tenor, contralto, soprano.

Dimash sings crossover, and yes he trained for years in opera as well as classical jazz and pop. He has a Masters Degree in Musical Composition, and can turn any cover into a masterpiece.
SOS is from a French rock opera, that Dimash has used as a signature song since he was 12-15.
He was onstage at 2 and realised that this was his destiny, and learned piano and singing at 5 years old at an academy in his homeland Kazakhstan, and practises for 3 hours a day ever since, swims underwater to develop his diaphragm for 1 hour per day, and bursts out in song lots of time per day, so his voice is always warmed up.
I don’t think anyone else has ever done all this before, and you can see the benefit of all that focus and drive that he was born with.
As well, he learned soccer and Tai-kwan-doe, and is 6ft 3” tall, and can stretch his breath out until tomorrow, has extra long vocal chords, etc., etc.
