Actually like that intro song. I think this is the video I was looking for but could not find. I broke the cable going to my spark plug so in order to repair it I just ordered a new ignition coil.

Thanks for that. Just bought a zx6r 1995 and it sounds like a bag. Sounds like the b4 video. Been a great help. Are the coils common on these?

Hi Jim, I have a ZX6R J 2000 model and have low compression on some cylinders. I have the option to buy a 1996 ZX6R motor, but mine has coils-on-caps, whereas the 1996 seems to have coils with HT leads. I notice that yours has coils and HT leads, but seem to be around the same year as mine. Did yours always have coils with HT leads? Do you have any idea if the 2 types of ignition are interchangeable?

Hi Jim I’ve got a zx6r J2 runs perfect apart from a splutter in most gears apart from first around 9k ? Carbs have been cleaned and balanced plugs are new as is fuel filter could it be a coil breaking down maybe ?

Check your ht leads first where they screw into the spark plug cap, unscrew them and look inside you may find like I did theyve gone rusty. While your there you may aswell check your plugs just incase 👍

Hi jim, my bike is a 97 zx6r ninja, i paid £500 for it its complete original, doesn't look as if its been touched much never mind maintained.. anyway it has this problem with hesitation mainly in 4rth and 5th gears its not wamt to go anywhere as if its being starved of fuel .. I've stripped it down tonight and I've cleaned the carbs and waiting on a new fuel filter to arrive.. do you think the ht leads or spark plugs would cause this problem? 1st and 2nd gears are fine with no power loss or hesitation.. 3rd has a little then it coughs out and goes no problem then into 4rth it dies down as if its ready to run out of fuel

Hmm, does sound abit like a fuelling problem, if it was me id pull the spark plugs out first and look at the condition of the ht leads to make sure they arnt corroded where they screw into plug caps, and actuall plug ends to see if its been running rich or lean on certain cylinders then as you said about maintainance and not being sure id give it a bloody good service and strip clean / set up carbs properly once all that is done take it from there and see if it still happens. When I had that HT lead corroded it would sometimes take abit of persuation to start and id feel a second of hesitation in 3rd around halfway up the rev range

@@ALLTHINGSJIM thanks jim, i have it all stripped down, the jets and inside the carbs are pretty clean ive cleaned them out anyhow, waiting for new plugs, ht leads, coils and a fuel filter from ebay so il let you know how i get on.. I'm going to need to buy a carb pressure kit to set the carbs I've saw a few videos online of some people doing them I'm not to bad at watching and learning thanks to you and many other great people out there for sharing such helpful info 🤜🤛

@@ALLTHINGSJIM i replaced the spark plugs, air and fuel filter, cleaned all carbs and removed and cleaned the jets, checked fuel flow from tank breather pipe and replaced also.. built it back up, took it a test run and the problem was still persistent.
The next day the 2 new coils and HT leads arrived, fitted them and its running sweet as a dream.

@@johnandrew113 this is promising. I've got the same problem with my old ninja. Hesitates when it's in a higher gear. I'm running through the checklist of everything on your list. Hoping these ignition coil replacements do the trick. I'm glad to hear you got a resolution to your problem.

@@eskimodoodle The yellow side has these tiny fibers that tend to dislodge when it gets old. I placed mine face down, so the black foam would catch them.
