I feel like this is a good book for new readers as it isn’t really limited to one part of the marvel universe and we practically have a guide to tell us any info we don’t know of

That’s a really good note about this book. Absolutely new reader friendly! And I really do agree it does a fantastic job of filling in any marvel universe knowledge gaps 💪📚
What did you think of the art?

Never heard of Gwenpool. Looks fun. Thanks for the introduction, Dominick. 👍🏻

Yeah I became aware of her when I was reading Zdarsky’s Howard the Duck run and I was really curious about the character. It was a fun read probably not for everyone but I was definitely entertained

I never read Gwenpool but i get the appeal.
She comes from a world where superheroes only exist in comics and travels to a world where they are real.
She lives every comic book fan,s dream.

This was a fun one for sure, I think I’m actually gonna dabble with Squirrel Girl I heard it was Fantastic.

Yeah honestly I had a lot more fun with this title than I even expected! It had some ups and downs but the character was engaging and I really loved the art style and tone 👏📚
I’m reading squirrel girl now that omnibus is just MASSIVE 😱 haha
It’s also pretty fun, definitely a bit different than the regular superhero comics

I've only read the character when she popped up in Kelly Thompson's West Coast Avengers run, it was cool to hear about her solo adventures before that and what makes her unique as a hero. That Gurihiro art looks great!

    • @TheComicBookReport
      @TheComicBookReport  Год назад +1

Absolutely! I think that solo run from Hastings is definitely the high mark in this omnibus for me! I was excited they included that WCA Run in this book though very cool addition

Thank you for your great review. It is a shame that Marvel haven't pushed this character more. She is probably the best Marvel creation post Secret Wars (Hickman). I am surprised that she doesn't have an animated series. This could work so well mixing live action and animation. Definitely a book for the younger Millennials, Gen Z and maybe Gen Alpha.
I am Gen X and enjoy the character.

Yeah very creative character! I agree I bet she’d do great with an animated series 👏

    • @TheComicBookReport

The main run is easily the highlight of the omnibus for me. This is a very unique series not for everyone but I can absolutely say I enjoyed the ride and I thought the art style was stunning

Great description but you spoiled the whole book. Lots of these issues end on a cliffhanger, so I'd advise doing "the spoiler" warning section. Just how Near Mint Condition does.
Here, there almost isn't anything about the book that you haven't revealed - but a lot of the enjoyment from reading comes from wondering what happens next.
Although, I do understand that she's a new character and to make people read this, it's better to reveal more, so they get hooked and interested.
I loved this book and her story arc. It's all so warm and sweet in the first parts and it turns into unique and thought provoking when she discovers her powers.
I do have a problem with the 10 West Coast Avengers issues. She's a D character in it and I would have preferred if the omni was 10-20 dollars cheaper if it means cutting those issues out. They're trying to be super funny non stop, just like most marvel movies today - but the jokes rarely land and most of the villains are ridiculous... But there are some wholesome character interactions, mostly involving Kate Bishop.

Thank you for the feedback! I appreciate the time you took to write this out!
I did present a spoiler warning for my review at 2:45 on the video before I really dove into the book’s contents. I did this so those who did not want to risk uncovering spoilers had a chance to click away.
In my reviews I will often cover plot elements in the books I review. I know many channels do spoiler-free reviews, I do a few, but in general reviews like this one I wanted the freedom to really
discuss what I enjoyed as the plot developed because I do think this title got better and better as they developed the character during that initial unbelievable Gwenpool run.
I did also have a spoiler-free 10 minute overview of this same omnibus on the @organicpricedbooks channel last week.
I do agree with your assessment of the West Coast Avengers run in this book. I’d say they were fun issues overall primarily as a fan of Kate Bishop but they really did a disservice to the character of Gwenpool, Especially when comparing it to the end of the Hastings run. Agree that they kind of relegated her character to like a C-list superhero character without many of her character attributes that made her so endearing in her solo series.
At any rate thanks for stopping by! 📚
