I think it's a great deal for the money as well and doesn't feel preachy in its prose. The GM advice is really decent. I like the attrition mechanics and being able to push spells in tight situations. The system has a lot of things that allow the party to manage, but they aid in providing situational material to the game: how long can you go? When do you turn back? A lot of risk and reward, making any combat/magic/adventure delve more interesting. The game seems to be mainly under the radar, but I hope they provide supplements to it if successful.
I'm not sure if it is just a setting, or if it adjusted the rules significantly, but it's based on Sword World which is Japan's answer to D&D. That system has been around since the late 80s/early 90s, and has a lot of development around it. It's the dominant RPG in Japan (several anime are based on it, if you're old school, _Record of Lodoss War_ was based on the author's Sword World campaign, for example,) but for some reason has never come over to the US. That's why it's such a mature system for an RPG adaptation of a TV show: The game mechanics have 3+ decades of development behind them.
I love the movement obstruction rules for combat. It really lets the front line combatants protect the back line or protect a weak/valuable person in a effective way.
Are there more monsters than just goblins? And I kinda wish they leaned into the nasty bits a little more, but I don’t blame them for not doing it just the same.
You’re like the only person with an in depth review of this book. Thank you!!

Finally, the material I need to make my own season 2.
Could just read the light novel.

Ah good to know
Great post, I'm curious now.

I’m hoping they translate the supplements to it
Looks like fun. Thanks for the headsup.
Lizard Folk FTW.

Currently $20, but also 10% off! So....18$. I am reminded of old Mad Magazines. "Now , Super Cheap!"
Not that I'm complaining, just noticing.
Sounds like a decent system, and well worth the $.
