I cut a hole in the back of my Clicks Keyboard Case

  • I used a rotary tool to cut a hole in the back of my Clicks Keyboard case so that I can use Magsafe without needing to take the case off.
Some of you may ask: "Why not just add a magnetic ring?" My answer is twofold:
    1. Magnetic rings work, but it is unpleasantly strong and it takes a lot of force to take my MagSafe accessories off. I frequently swap Magsafe accessories and it snapping hard to the magnetic ring felt tiring.
    2. When charging through the case, the whole phone heated up very fast and I didn't like how it could potentially affect battery life. I wanted to have the Magnetic connection as direct as possible to my iPhone to minimise any energy that might be wasted as heat due to the additional distance.
    3. I was intrigued by a similar concept by OpenCase where the hole allowed the Magsafe accessories to sit "into" the case, thereby slimming down the overall profile of the phone + accessories. This also helps prevent slippage since the Magsafe accessories will be caught by the borders.
Overall. Am quite pleased with the results despite my shitty cutting. Maybe with some time and mastery I can shave the edges to make it more aesthetically pleasing, but I am pleased that I tried doing this.
Clicks is a great keyboard case; I highly recommend you try getting one: Clicks.tech

      Three big draws:
      1. the virtual keyboard takes up also half of your screen or one-third of your screen. This makes typing longer form messages like email more difficult.
      2. Shortcuts - With Clicks, you can use the modifier keys like CMD, Option, and Tab. It allows you to do things like CMD+C and CMD+V for copy and paste, or do CMD+Backspace to delete the entire line instead of using iPhone's finicky gestures to select texts.
      3. Keyboards feel nicer to type on - I type faster on the physical keyboard compared to the virtual keyboard, and I can even type without looking at the keys, which allows me to just focus on the text.

The phone is just too top heavy.

It's not too bad actually! The back of the keyboard already has a weight to help with balance; I think it might be possible to glue on more weights to counterbalance the Phone. Although that would add to the overall heft of the phone.
