😂, I love how Alex goes on about ATOMSHPERE, for so many reasons. The main one of which being that he ain’t wrong in how it can get annoying to have someone tell you it’s what makes the boss fantastic which is also a way of disregarding any form of genuine criticism or complaint to a boss. I’m a lore guy and even I know ATMOSPHERE ain’t everything nor does everyone find it to enhance bosses. Great vid guys as always.
Great video, Guys! We're really getting into the good stuff now. The Rotten is definitely an underrated DS2 boss and one of the highlights of the base game in my opinion. The Old Iron King, on the other hand, is a boss I've never liked. My main issue with that fight is the awkward design of the arena, which I don't think fits this type of boss very well. Ys Origin (2006) included a similar boss, Gelaldy, that was much better designed in my opinion, in large part because of the arena. Gelaldy is also submerged in lava from the waist down, but it's in a hole in the center of the arena, allowing you to circle around it (in the vein of Megahammer from Super Mario Galaxy 2). That boss can also sink platforms into the lava, which keeps you on your toes. I've never liked Gwyn's fight, either. I agree that he seems designed around the player parrying him, as fighting him without that strategy is almost as obnoxious as Pthumerian Descendant (though not nearly as awful, truth be told). He's definitely one of my least favorite final bosses in the series. I agree with Gyoubu being the best first boss in any of these games. He's a great introduction to mounted bosses (not counting the King of the Storm) and is my favorite example of that type of boss they've done to date. I'm definitely in the minority in that bosses are actually my second favorite aspect of these games. My favorite is actually the level design, as I love exploring these intricately, designed areas and uncovering all the secret pathways hidden within. That factors into Bloodborne being my favorite of their games, despite its boss roster being very hit-or-miss. It's also a major reason why my favorite game design philosophy is the immersive sim, as those games place an emphasis on nonlinear level design and allowing the player the freedom to choose their own path through a level. As a matter of fact, a lot of those games don't even have boss fights (Deus Ex, Thief I & II, etc.) or have poorly designed ones (System Shock 1 & 2, Ultima Underworld I & II, etc.), but their levels are so amazing that I don't even miss them. Anyway, I'm enjoying your content as always and look forward to your future uploads!
The only regretting part about this is that the Shadow of the Erdtree Bosses are not integrated. D: I mean in some kinda way I see Shadow of the Erdtree as the finale of all Soulsborne games so far. It probably isn't but I think they've gone so haywire with the difficulty (if you're not using summons, spirits, op-builds yadayadayada) that they might step back for the next game and focus on different aspects for now. To me from Demon's Souls to Shadow of the Erdtree is now the ultimate Soulsborne Chronology.
We’re gonna publish all the parts combined into one video once they’re all done, and integrate our shadows of the erdtree segments in between the old segments while giving them a “something point five” placement. For example, if we had metyr between the 64th and 63rd boss in our list we’d slide her in at 63.5
ye, something about the sound effect in the four king's explosion move has always been so satisfying. similar to old swain from league with his W, or orphan of kos' screech in his phase 2 transition. just something very eldrtich about it
First:your vids are bangers, never stop making them Also:as a ds2 fan i will say that looking glass knight is overrated,i mean yeah he looks cool but hes just tooooooo slowwwww! It takes ages for him to use his damn sword instead of just spamming his slow ahh lighting move,he even has a combo like the burnt ivory king that is just so rare for him to do it
There have been many games considerably tougher than the Soulsborne franchise across the history of gaming, especially in the retro era. Titles like Battletoads (often considered the hardest game ever made), Ghosts 'n Goblins, some of the Contra games, etc. can be brutally difficult and unforgiving, particularly on account of having limited continues. There are also a fair share of more modern indie games that I'd say are tougher than Soulsborne, with Super Meat Boy, Celeste, and Cuphead being only a few. Even as far as RPGs go, I've played some that are less forgiving than Soulsborne. Baldur's Gate I & II (especially the first one), The Elder Scrolls: Arena, Phantasy Star II, and some of the Ultima games are all extremely punishing, and there are many more RPGs I haven't played that are also considered insanely difficult. As to what games were closest to Soulsborne's level of difficulty, that's tough for me to say. Arguably, some of the older Castlevanias offer a similar level of challenge, but their difficulty arose from different elements than the Souls games (less from the boss fights and more from treacherous platforming, etc.).
the Ninja Gaiden series has a reputation for being notably difficult. Sekiro before Sekiro in many ways. Even normal mode requires a perfect combo execution and lots of trial and error to get to that point.
I hate Gwyn and he'd barely reach out of my bottom 10. For an end boss to a long list of great bosses I just can't get over how easy he is as a boss. I don't care about lore or music, at the point of the game I was in I could virtually block through most of his main combo with a black knight shield and compared to the bosses that came before it (which was manus for that playthrough) I just felt very disappointed.
Never thought I’d hear someone slander Gwyn’s theme.
Alex’s hate for atmosphere matches Russian Knights’s hate for horses
Alex probably just picked his nose and yawned when he got to Ash Lake for the first time

Miquella is a lot like Loki but his horse had red hair and horns
I'm impressed Yhorm and Divine Dragon made it so high but I like those bosses a lot so I'm happy
3:05 its awesome

The side tangent of the Aesir myth has me cackling

@@Cytonox You better not have metyr in between 64 and 63, if she beats radagon I am going to explode

Great video guys! You have good takes that differ from everyone else
The homeless comparison was hilarious and I can def relate.I don't think they should be allowed on the bus bc of how much trouble they usually cause

Cytodrought over, but Darklurker too low, insane how Watchdog got that high, and Laurence too high. Not enough atmosphere, 0/10 sorry
godrick is low😫
