    In terms of possible Oscar noms, I wonder why Ryan did not include cinematography. The trailer looks gorgeous. That slo-mo bomb blast looks like it came straight out of a renaissance painting.

    Idk if you'll read this but I'm returning from TIFF and I want to thank you for your videos, especially those where you predict the Oscar Winners very early on. If it wasn't for them, I wouldn't have watched The End, Saturday Night, Conclave and Queer at the festival

    Fun fact: When you take all of the films that an actor or actress has appeared in and count the cumulative total number of Oscars won across all categories, Ralph Fiennes is the actor with the most Oscar winning filmography of all time (his films have won a combined 35 Oscars across various categories). Leonardo DiCaprio is right behind him with 33 wins for his films.

      @@axr7149 Is that right? I don’t even know how someone figures that out, but that’s impressive. I would have assumed Leo DiCaprio would have beat him there. Cool fun fact though 👍🏻 Thanks for sharing!

    I still think that the best film on the subject we are talking about is "The shoes of the Fisherman". I suggest watching it. RIP, Anthony Queen and Vittorio de Sica.
    But I will give Conclave a chance, for sure. Actors, director, writer of the novel is based on, writer of the dialogues.... are among the best ones can find.

    Can we talk about insane bad luck for Ralph Fiennes? He has been nominated only two times to date, both for films that DOMINATED the Oscars and win Best Picture in the 1990s (SCHINDLER'S LIST and THE ENGLISH PATIENT), and despite the sweeps, he does not come along for the ride either time! He also had a cameo in another Best Picture winner that also dominated (THE HURT LOCKER).
    Leonardo DiCaprio had a similar streak before his win too. He too appeared in 2 Best Picture winners (TITANIC and THE DEPARTED) that dominated the Oscars but didn't even get nominated for either one of those.

      @@axr7149 The Schindler’s List loss will always surprise me. What also surprises me is that he wasn’t nominated for the Grand Budapest Hotel. The Academy LOVED that movie, but he didn’t go along for the ride? Strange.

    I like the movie, especially Fiennes performance. I can see Fiennes winning, but not the movie. I like the intent of being inclusive, but the ending no spoilers went a little far. I also like that it admitted that popes have been flawed people in the past. I would not root for this to win, but I enjoyed it more than Dune 2 and Sing Sing.

    Ryan offered me one of his gummy worms as we were waiting for it to begin. I said “no thanks, I’m okay”. Almost instant regret for that decision - haven’t had a gummy worm in like 10 years and couldn’t stop thinking about it lol.
    I agree with this review - Conclave has a surprising amount of humour, I loved the score and it works so well in this, and the third act surprise could’ve been handled better but it sure did make the audience react. Great film!

    Good review Ryan. The book was a nonstop read, you HAD to finish it. I hope the movie comes close to that. The cliffhanger twist at the end will cause some controversy. What would happen next? The book needed another chapter as many things COULD happen. Sequel?

    I actually think this is an incredibly important film in the way it explores the true meaning of faith and the power dynamics and prejudices displayed by so-called “men of God.” I hope this wins Best Adapted Screenplay, as I think this might be the tightest and most thrilling script of the entire year. Easily my favorite film of the entire festival. Glad to hear your thoughts on this one, Ryan!

    An exciting movie about cardinals? This statement probably needs to be amended to: An exciting movie for those who are ignorant of the Catholic Faith about cardinals as they seem after being corrupted by modernism. Looked at in that light it is offensive to devout Catholics.

      @barbararussell9757 Месяц назад +2

      @@fabrisseterbrugghe8567 That’s interesting. My perspective is the opposite. The Church is hierarchical and authority is disseminated through those ranks in a logical order. I am reminded of the words of the Centurion that are said at every Mass with the Eucharist “Domine non sum dignus….”. The Centurion, though a pagan, recognized Jesus by his authority because the Centurion was a soldier and a “man under authority.” The danger comes when that authority which is timeless and supernatural Truth is corrupted by modernism which was called “the heresy of all heresies.”
