Isabella is beautiful, intelligent, and interesting. Plus no ego and no nonsense. Always a pleasure to listen to her. I am looking forward to watching her newest movie. No matter how "small" her role is, she always elevates the film or show with her presence.
I saw her on 57 street and 5th avenue one summer day, just walking casually and instantly recognized her; and I said “Hello Ms. Rossellini.” But not too loudly-and she nodded at me and smiled-we were walking in opposite directions-she looked as beautiful in person as in film.
I met her briefly in Marseille airport in March of 1999. I ran to her and said I was a fan, but I spoke in english (I'm french actually) and someone who was accompanyin her said "Elle parle français !" And I was like : "Oh yes, sorry, I had forgotten" LOL So I explained to her that for me, meeting her was like a dream came true, and I had seen all her films and was especially fan of David Lynch, and she smiled so gently, and some time later I saw her again just before she took her plane, and this time I gave her a piece of paper so she could sign it, and I said to her : "Otherwise, no one will believe me at home !!" (remember it was before Smartphones, and selfies, etc. !). She signed it, and then she took her plane. I took mine a little time after that. It was AMAZING, and I never forgot that day, and I always kept this autograph with me :) I will always be grateful for her kind words and her smile :) PURE magic :) Merci madame Isabella Rossellini you're an angel :)
Spain and France and Catholic by culture but are secular countries. Catholic by culture doesn't necessarily mean religious. In fact Ireland has become a very secular country.
Naturally intelligent, beautiful and talented. Isabella Rossellini has always been someone to admire to me. Her father’s (Roberto Rossellini) films made with her mother (Ingrid Bergman) are fascinating and unique. Especially “Stromboli”. Ingrid has a twin sister and a brother born to her parents. She has lead a fascinating and fruitful life. I look forward to seeing “Conclave”. Che bellísima Isabella!
No female alive had has a better life. So beyond beautiful in youth. Still beautiful at 71. No one has better stories and life experience than this girl
During COVID my 14 yo son and I were stuck at home for nearly 2 years, so I took that time to introduce him to great music and great movies that he otherwise may have not known. We also watched so many historic dramas so he would acquire a curiosity about history. I think this enriched his life culturally. Now he is at the University majoring in Music and Film. It was time well spent and I am grateful we had it.
I saw Conclave yesterday and was impressed. I believe that it could definitely be an Oscar contender. Isabella Rossellini's character was strong, but when she found her voice in the dining room, the audience was in awe.
There is something so special about Isabella Rossellini. So beautiful, so intelligent. I see her Swedish mother, the great Ingrid Bergman, not only in her face but the way she expresses herself. I fell in love with her when I saw her in Fearless with Jeff Bridges....extraordinary performance, both compassionate as well as forcefull. I love her.
Glad she gets confused in Italian & Spanish. I took Spanish in school and 40 years later started to learn Italian and I still get it mixed in my mind (ie. cuando and quando). Very close. I've always found her so wonderful to listen to.
Isabella Rossellini (this has to be one of the most beautiful names ever -- it sounds like the title of an opera!) is a wonderful person. She reminds me so much of her Mother. Isabella was marvelous in the film Conclave. She didn't speak much, but her presence was very impressive, and when she did speak everyone was all ears! Much love to this charming woman!
First time I see Tom! I love listening to his voice, I often do to practice English so I can speak it that day (like Isabella suggested, you need to immerse in the language first) and living in Quebec and being an allophone it’s quite a task every day having to switch from one to the next. Very nice interview, as usual. Isabella is always very genuine. Nice human being it seems.
Love the closing statement about how to make small farming viable. This is such a necessary change that needs to happen. Big farming is causing too many problems.
She was Lancome for me as a young woman. I adore her work in film. LIstening to her be interviewed is a real treat. Classic films are my preferred escape. Those great movies have been shared with my son. My granddaughters are soon to learn about them as well.
Isabella is as beautiful as her mother was and she has this European charm when she speaks.. About Roberto Rossellini's films, who can forget Stromboli?
One of my favorite movies ever is "Cousins" from 1989. She is an absolute marvel in every moment of this romantic comedy/drama. I can't adequately express how phenomenal her performance is, but if you enjoy her work and haven't seen it, please do.
IMO "Cousins" is terribly underestimated [and often dismissed because it's a remake]. But I've returned to it multiple times over the years, impressed that while it's dated, it's aged-well. And - yes - the performances are sublime through and through. Highly recommended.
I agree that Isabella is wise! She seems to have accepted the end of her original contract with Lancôme with much more equanimity than I did! I wore Lancôme exclusively at the time, and though I was younger than she, I really resented it and still boycott them to this day. I disagree that youth is the dream. Youth is often boring and blank. Being beautiful and interesting is the dream and Isabella has both in spades.
I recall seeing her in ads when she started appearing in so many magazines in the 1980s. Stunning, and then she moved on to several new careers. Amazing, versatile woman. I am looking forward to Conclave.
Grand lady Isabella, still a beautiful person, as lovely as she was back in the 1980’s, so ageless and as wonderful as her wonderful mother…adore you both so much.❤❤❤❤❤❤
From Isabella's descriptions I get to relive my college year in Italy based in Rome. Within a short period of time the city (including the Vatican) becomes a highly walkable backyard where one can experience the grandeur of many spectacular landmarks... a vast cultural universe just waiting to be discovered. In my 10 month residency I saw much, but certainly not all of it. Rome, by the way, has over 900 Catholic churches. // In this conversation Tom mentions how young people have no concept of great people and events from their culture that came 50 years before. I was at my dentist appointment and mentioned Burt Bacharach and Bossa Nova music. The 24-year-old dentist had no idea what I was talking about. She's into current throwaway music that has no redeemable quality. The idea of QUALITY completely escapes her.
I was raised Catholic and brought up to think that the Vatican was a very closed city and no one was permitted entry. I know differently now listening to Isabella Rossellini. Sister Agnes had a marvellous role in the movie.
Well, you can freely enter some parts of the Vatican City: st Peter's Square and Cathedral are open and there is only Italian police for security reason on the "border" between Vatican and Italy but no passport control there, Vatican Museums are free access (provided you have a ticket), other parts of the Vatican you are not allowed to enter as there are Swiss Guards checking documents and permit to access..
Isn’t she fantastic?!!! I have watched her career as I grew up, remembering her Lancôme modeling career, and her move into film. Of course I adore Ingrid Bergman, her mother and you can hear her in Isabella too😎
You use different facial muscles in each language so you do need to be immersed in the specific language so it is easier to follow the track. I’m an American who also speak Spanish and French. After speaking Spanish all day, my facial muscles are tired. 😊 French is different in that you use guttural sounds and muscles. It is lovely to hear your voice in each language. ❤
I think it’s also about memory plasticity. The day you listen and practice your L2 You train your brain to cover those sounds, that sentence structure and words come out more easily. I’m Italian and live in Quebec. It takes me always a little bit to switch from Italian to French or English. When I need to speak French I listen to French radio all morning and same thing in English. After 30 years abroad I need to do the same for my mother tongue. Practice is the key.
And yet Michelangelo's work in the Sistine Chapel plays a serious role in Conclave. Wonderful discussion regarding models as older women. Popular culture can change the narrative.
Love Isabella!! Thanks Tom!!! But she’s wrong about the legacy of film. Yes, the audience gets smaller but it never dies. I was born in 1958 and the movies I love are from the late 30’s and 40’s. I’m always discovering new gems!!!
New find for me, fantastic. I like the sincerity of the presenter, and of Course, I. Rossellini. I have encountered young people over the years who have never heard of people such as Frank Sinatra, Cary Grant did come up once, and some of the other greats. I was surprised at first, but now I´m not. What I do find troubling and disappointing is that many of those I talked to do not even care who they were, what the contributed, and then to top it off there´s little or no reverence or curiosity. I have encoutered one or two exceptions, but speaking generally this has been my experience.
her commercials for lancolm cosmetics were surreal as i appreciated her true beauty as beauty may fade some people are timeless such as isabella.beauty such as this is hard to find anymore and a lost art.
Rossellini in Conclave is spectacular. She doesn’t say very much but when she does an entire room of men who identify themselves and each other as powerful stop and listen. In the film Lithgow, a powerful American Cardinal clearly on his way to becoming pope is undone by one sentence from her. Her role is pivotal. Her power and influence palpable! She said it. The script is amazing. But I will say lines are just that even if they are Shakespeare … words on a page until a great actor speaks them.
Most of the characters of the movie are underdeveloped, caricatural, which poses a real challenge for the actors to make them actually seem human. Isabella did the best job, and every single flinch of her eyebrows elevated rthe movie as only an actor of her caliber could!
I had the same observation. If he did his homework, he'd know that her parents were not exactly welcomed by the pope!! If you have read any of the books, and there are a lot of them, about Bergman, Roberto, etc. one would easily know this. Actually, he just could have Googled it, it's that well documented. Lazy! What a missed opportunity to ask better questions.
I have always loved Isabella Rossellini, she is a remarkable woman. Thanks Tom!
I would second this sentiment for Isabella, along with her parents, both of whom were so, so talented...
Truly amazing.🎉
Ditto here! I just watched one of my favorite films with Isabella, "Cousins"! She was wonderful! She's still so lovely and beautiful!
I certainly have a notion to second THAT emotion !!
Isabella Rossellini is a class act through and through. Love her work as an actress.
"I think I gave myself a good life." Isabella Rossellini is an artist, and continues to inspire her audience to live.
Isabella is beautiful, intelligent, and interesting. Plus no ego and no nonsense. Always a pleasure to listen to her. I am looking forward to watching her newest movie. No matter how "small" her role is, she always elevates the film or show with her presence.
The definition of class in any language!
Just like her mother!
I saw her on 57 street and 5th avenue one summer day, just walking casually and instantly recognized her; and I said “Hello Ms. Rossellini.” But not too loudly-and she nodded at me and smiled-we were walking in opposite directions-she looked as beautiful in person as in film.
She's real. ❤
My mother met her in an elevator and loved telling us how kind she was as my mother stood there starstruck 😂
I met her briefly in Marseille airport in March of 1999. I ran to her and said I was a fan, but I spoke in english (I'm french actually) and someone who was accompanyin her said "Elle parle français !" And I was like : "Oh yes, sorry, I had forgotten" LOL So I explained to her that for me, meeting her was like a dream came true, and I had seen all her films and was especially fan of David Lynch, and she smiled so gently, and some time later I saw her again just before she took her plane, and this time I gave her a piece of paper so she could sign it, and I said to her : "Otherwise, no one will believe me at home !!" She did not address you as Ms. Ratgirl 13 back?
She sounds soooo much like her wonderful mother!! Just enjoy this exceptional lady !!!!💕
She needs to be appreciated for her multiple talents...😊
I loved listening to her talk. She is very wise!! And very beautiful.
She sounds and resembles her mom so much!❤
Eloquent and elegant is Isabella. Thank you, Tom.
Oh….I loved her phrase “ Catholic by culture”. It describes Irish too! Love Isabella, always have.I need to watch this film! Great interview Tom 😊
That is part of why there are so many marriages between Irish and Italian.
Spain and France and Catholic by culture but are secular countries. Catholic by culture doesn't necessarily mean religious. In fact Ireland has become a very secular country.
@@gloriathomas3245 …I believe “Catholic by culture” means NOT religious…..as does secular
I love this woman! Class, beauty and intelligence. Thank you!

Gracious and eloquent. What an incredible human.
I am always captivated, in so many ways, by Isabella Rossellini.
I saw Conclave yesterday and was impressed. I believe that it could definitely be an Oscar contender. Isabella Rossellini's character was strong, but when she found her voice in the dining room, the audience was in awe.
I nearly gasped when I saw this upload. Thank you for this terrific interview ❤
Isabella is beautiful and so knowledgeable. Love her. ❤
I heartily concur !!
I absolutely love this woman. It's easy to see her beauty comes from within.
I love the way Tom wraps up the interview by saying I’m getting wisdom from you”
My favorite nun was Sr Benedict, played by her mother, who should NEVER be forgotten!
Isabella is the reason alone to see this movie. It is rare she is in the film. But when she is in a film it is something to see.
I love her.
Such a gracious, intelligent, sensitive soul.

QUELLA è stata una grande intervista e una persona affascinante.
Grazie Tom
Just as intelligent, interesting, funny, and elegant as she has always been!

Brilliant interview of an extraordinary woman. Thank you 🙏❤️
She looks and sounds so much like her mother. Both very beautiful ladies.

I love Isabella Rossellini’s animal films. So playful, whimsical, and wise.
She is adorable. Every time.
I recall seeing her in ads when she started appearing in so many magazines in the 1980s. Stunning, and then she moved on to several new careers. Amazing, versatile woman. I am looking forward to Conclave.
I saw the movie this morning. Very good!
Grand lady Isabella, still a beautiful person, as lovely as she was back in the 1980’s, so ageless and as wonderful as her wonderful mother…adore you both so much.❤❤❤❤❤❤
Great film. And Ms R is a terrific actress and all around human.
She is such an incredible, intelligent, creative and interesting woman
Great interview. Just saw "Conclave" and thought Isabella lent a fascinating presence to the film- brava, Ms. Rossellini!
🌹I love Isabella Rossellini 🌹Congratulations and Great job ☺👍✌♥✨🎬📽💯
Brilliant conversation, thank you. So grateful I stumbled across it!
Tom comes across as a sweet and genuine Canadian guy!!
beautiful Isabella ... God so enigmatic.... great interview
Beautiful, talented woman, always admire, wish she win an Oscar, will be well deserved.
Have not seen the film yet. Supposedly her role is small. However that would not disqualify her from awards.
wonderful. she makes me curios about living a fuller life
So much..your mother's daughter. Ingrid was amazing
Beautiful person inside and out ~ 🌟

LOVE LOVE LOVE Isabella Rossellini
fantastic actress - criminally underused in this film!
I adore her! Still so gorgeous! Classy
And a great talented Actress just Love her!! She is so warm and so lovely.

Isabella looks like a Gustav Klimt painting in this interview with her style, the patterns of her wardrobe, and background. Bella‼️ Bella‼️
Delightful interview with Isabella
Thank you. Ms.Rossellini is fascinating. So original.
Isn’t she fantastic?!!! I have watched her career as I grew up, remembering her Lancôme modeling career, and her move into film. Of course I adore Ingrid Bergman, her mother and you can hear her in Isabella too😎
She’s lovely. So much like her mother.
The face, the voice. Oh My!
An older movie about conclave is Anthony Quinn in The Shoes of the Fisherman.
Lovely interview. Lovely woman. Thank you.

When she speaks, it sounds like music!

I lovw this woman! Beautiful inside and out.
So to be clear, it was not the film industry that dropped her when she reached her forty’s , but the advertising industry ( Lancôme) that dropped her.
New find for me, fantastic. I like the sincerity of the presenter, and of Course, I. Rossellini. Reminds me of her Mother.... just my opinion 😊
Another masterpiece claimed by Italy
Every time I hear her voice, I picture her poking a finger and giving the life giving elixir. No one like her ever.
She looks and sounds so much like her famous mother, Ingrid Bergman.
She is lovely,lovely,lovely
Isabella sounds exactly like her mother.
Wonderful person. And thankfully, so natural looking as she ages.
Isabella I love you!
her commercials for lancolm cosmetics were surreal as i appreciated her true beauty as beauty may fade some people are timeless such as isabella.beauty such as this is hard to find anymore and a lost art.

I love her. The other Canadian film I love with her is “Closet Monster,” a dark coming out film where she plays the voice of the hero’s hamster.
very educated this woman
No. She referred the Vatican as a nieghhood and it is its own country. @ 3:25 Duh.
Love her! 👍
OMG I can't believe how this still beautiful lady as she's got older looks like her mother
She had only a few scenes, but stole the show completely.
Most of the characters of the movie are underdeveloped, caricatural, which poses a real challenge for the actors to make them actually seem human. Isabella did the best job, and every single flinch of her eyebrows elevated rthe movie as only an actor of her caliber could!
This woman, is a goddess.
Excellent interviewer!
Her mother also had an accent, somehow their voices are so similar.
Everyone has an accent, you and I included. We often only become aware of our own accents when they are pointed out to us.
Although the accent is different, when she speaks she has exactly the same voice and intonations as her mother.
❤❤liefde voor iedereen
What a lovely and beautiful woman. Very sweet and wise…
Not a match for the interviewer…
I agree he was out of his element but she kindly worked with him, gracefully. A star!
I had the same observation. If he did his homework, he'd know that her parents were not exactly welcomed by the pope!! Very interesting.
